| cnahumck04-07-08, 05:36 PM | So... I came up with this epic spell, and wanted to put it out there for people: Raze City Evocation Spellcraft DC: 64 Components: V,S,F Casting Time: One minute Range: 12000 ft. Target: 500 ft radius Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Fortitude to negate Con damage, Fortitude for half damage Spell Resistance: Yes To Develop: 567,000 Cp; 12 days; 22,680 XP. Seed: destroy (DC 29), slay (DC 25). Factors: Change from target to area (+2 DC), Increase area by 100% taken 25 times (+100 DC), Increase spell DC by 4 (+8 DC), Required class feature and item focus (Ad Hoc -20 DC), 20d6 backlash (-20 DC), Burn 7,000 XP(-70 DC). Holding your obsidian focus in front of you, you reach out with your magic and drain the life of the village before you into a central point that then explodes outward in a violent display of utter destruction. This potent spell requires the Dragon Magic class feature to use. When casting, choose a location within range. Everything within range must make a Fortitude save against DC 24+Cha modifier of the caster or they take 2d4 Con damage + the Con damage that would effect them from normal use of the Dragon Magic class feature. Everything within range is then subject to 20d6 points of untyped damage. Buildings and other objects are automatically effected, and any hardness is bypassed. Magical matter, energy fields and force effects are automatically destroyed and ethereal or phased creatures are also effected. Anything that survives the damage and the Con drain is left at the bottom of the crater. Let me know what you think. I was going to give it to a certain NPC that I like, but I wanted to know what people thought. |
| Zardnaar04-08-08, 01:38 AM | I remember a thread a few years back that was something like spells as WMD. A speell doing around 5d6 damage would be enough to kill most of a citiies population and the Book of Vile Darkness has a spell called apocalypse from the sky. It doesn't really need to be a Dragon spell either but I see you ad hoc'd a few points of the spell DC. |
| cnahumck04-08-08, 07:54 AM | I may have to write the description better, but the spell is supposed to magnify the effects of the Dragon Magic class feature (the additional Con damage), then use the destroy seed to, well, destroy. |

If you really wanna trash a city though you could do it a bit easier by making the damage 5-10d6 and bump up the area effect. 200 feet isn't so much Raze City as decimate half a small city block:D A 500-100 foot radius would be the ticket and I like how you've added ad hoc modifiers to lower the DC. If you wanna be nasty one of the Forgotten Realms epic spells had an ad hoc +1000 to the DC which was brought down by various means and the area of effect was the entire planet. Think bigger if you want to "Raze City". Can't find my Epic Level Handbook ATM to find the relevent tables. |
| cnahumck04-08-08, 09:34 AM | I am thinking too of the D+D rule of doubling and tripling. Since the area of effect is increased, would it be the same as I did it? I basically took the increase area 100% thing 10 times. Not sure if I did that right. I can always increase the size. And the 20d6 is a straight lift from the Destroy seed. I have no problem increasing the size, if I can. |
| cnahumck04-08-08, 12:32 PM | So, I increased the area of effect to 500 ft. I think I did the math right... That is a crater 1000 feet across and 500 ft deep at it's deepest point. |
| YoungPreserver04-28-08, 12:03 PM | Why do we always focus on hp or ability damage? If you want to make a WMD spell, don't get so narrow focused. Most individuals within a city will not have a save better than +3. Make an area effect that requires a DC 23 save to survive and you've just received a 95% kill rate (read: nuke). Add some debilitating effect to those who do survive and allow your henchmen to go in and kill of the survivors. Besides, any good villian knows you have to let a few survive. This is where your fearful reputation comes from... along with that single child orphaned and marked from your power who slowly grows in the shadows before setting out with novice skills to take on your henchmen in small bits, never to much for him to chew; as he grows in power feeding off the edges of your organization to which you pay no heed as you are too powerful to be concerned with losing power until one day he shows up in your inner sanctum weilding magical weapons you had gifted to your commanders, casting the spells you invented and taught your apprentices and hitting you in your weak spots that none were supposed to remember except those few living in that village you destroyed twenty years ago... Heh heh... -Jason |
| cnahumck04-28-08, 03:06 PM | If we are talking about straight up story elements, then yes, it is better to write the plot that the survivor comes and finds redemption for his slaughtered people. This ain't that. The damage is there because it does that kind of damage to all things, people, animals, plants and buildings. This is a mass destruction, kill them all, cleansing war style spell. That is why it is so destructive, with straight hp and con damage. I could do it another way, but this is more... fun. |
| brun0105-07-08, 01:13 PM | By Ral, I get out for 15 days and when I come Chris is razing entire cities? Back to you cell, Chris! Back!:duel: |
| cnahumck05-07-08, 02:28 PM | Chris has not been Razing Cities. Chris is planning on Razing Cities. Chris is looking forward to the option of Razing Cities with his favorite NPC. Chris realizes that the way things are set up with the spell at present, this spell would more likely Raze a village. It takes a village to raise a child, but it only takes one person to raze a village. :evillaugh :mage: :help: :gah: :OMG! :ghosted: |
