| Khaine07-30-05, 07:25 PM | Mindthief “Who am I? Look in the mirror.” Xarevi, half-elven mindthief Lacking the training or ambition to excel in the psionic arts, a mindthief does what anyone not willing to work for reward does. She steal it. In this case, the reward is the psionic power and very Will of others. To a thief who steals such things, the thoughts and secrets other people harbor are petty fare, and soon a good mindthief can steal these with ease as well. Human, elven, and half-elven wilders make up the majority of potential mindthieves, as other races do not normally possess the skills or mindset necessary for this craft. Psions rarely follow this path, although they can pick it up with ease, and few psychic warriors are interested in such subtle pursuits. Hit Die: d6. Requirements To qualify to become a Mindthief, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +3 Skills: Concentration 5 ranks, Bluff 3 ranks, Hide 3 ranks, Knowledge (psionics) 4 ranks, Move Silently 3 ranks, Psicraft 4 ranks Feats: Combat Manifestation Psionics: Must be able to manifest the detect psionics, distract, and feat leech powers Special: Sneak Attack +2d6 or better The Mindthief Level Atk Fort Ref Will Special 1 +0 +0 +2 +2 Read Thoughts 2 +1 +0 +3 +3 Sap Will 3 +2 +1 +3 +3 Sneak Attack +1d6 4 +3 +1 +4 +4 Thieving Mindlink 5 +3 +1 +4 +4 Bonus Feat 6 +4 +2 +5 +5 Sneak Attack +2d6 7 +5 +2 +5 +5 Mind Probe 8 +6 +2 +6 +6 Steal Skills 9 +6 +3 +6 +6 Sneak Attack +3d6 10 +7 +3 +7 +7 Steal Self Mindthief Psionics Level Powers Known 1 +1 manifester level 2 -- 3 +1 manifester level 4 -- 5 +1 manifester level 6 -- 7 +1 manifester level 8 -- 9 +1 manifester level 10 -- Class Skills Mindthieves have the following skills as class skills: Autohypnosis (Wis), Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (psionics; Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Psicraft (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Speak Language, Spot (Wis), Tumble (Dex), and Use Psionic Device (Cha). Skill points per level: 4 + Intelligence bonus Class Features All of the following are features of the Mindthief prestige class. Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Mindthieves gain no additional weapon or armor proficiencies. Powers Known: At the indicated levels, a mindthief gains power points and powers as if she had gained a level in a psionic manifester class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that manifester class would have gained. This essentially means that she her mindthief level to her level in a manifester class, then determines powers, power points and manifester level accordingly. Read Thoughts: At 1st level, a mindthief adds the read thoughts power to her repertoire. Once per day, she can manifest read thoughts at a reduced cost of one less power point than normal. Sap Will: At 2nd level, a mindthief gains the supernatural ability to steal the power points of other psionic individuals for his own use. Once per day per two class levels, the mindthief can sacrifice bonus dice of damage when making a sneak attack on a targeted psionic creature, up to a number of dice equal to her class level (but still doing a minimum +1d6 sneak attack damage). For every die of sneak attack damage sacrificed, the mindthief saps the target of 1d4 power points, which the mindthief gains as temporary power points. The target can make a Will save (DC 10 + the mindthief’s class level + the mindthief’s Charisma modifier) to negate the effect. Power points stolen in this fashion remain until expended or for six minutes per class level, whichever is less. Sneak Attack: If a mindthief can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from his attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage. Any time the target would be denied his Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (whether he actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the mindthief flanks the target, the mindthief’s attack deals extra damage. Should the mindthief score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can only count as sneak attacks if the target is within 30 feet. The mindthief can’t strike with deadly accuracy from beyond that range. A mindthief can only sneak attack living creatures with discernable anatomies. Thieving Mindlink: At 4th level, a mindthief adds the thieving mindlink power to her repertoire. Once per day, she can manifest thieving mindlink at a reduced cost of one less power point than normal. Bonus Feat: At 5th level, a mindthief gains a bonus feat of her choice chosen from the list of psionic feats. The character must still meet the prerequisites for the feat chosen. Mind Probe: At 4th level, a mindthief adds the mind probe power to her repertoire. Once per day, she can manifest mind probe at a reduced cost of one less power point than normal. Steal Skills: At 8th level, a mindthief can utilize a modified form of the thieving mindlink power. Instead of steal one of the victim’s powers, the mindthief steals a number of the victim’s skills equal to her Intelligence modifier. She can then use these stolen skills, at the ranks the victim possesses, for the duration of the power. Other than this, the specifics of the power are unaltered. Steal Self: Upon reaching 10th level, a mindthief gains the ultimate skill of her profession, the ability to steal a target’s entire identity. In order to use this psi-like power, the victim must first be unconscious. The mindthief then simply touches the victim, and, over the course of a full minute, absorbs his entire identity. A mindthief can only absorb the identity of a creature with Hit Dice equal to or less than her own, and the victim can make a Will save (DC 10 + half the mindthief’s class level + the mindthief’s Charisma modifier) to negate the effect. Any interruption of the transferal also negates the effect. Once the theft is successful, the mindthief gains all of the memories, skills, feats (except those feats that are the result of physical changes), and class features (again, except those that are the result of physical changes) of the victim, as well as a +10 competence bonus on Disguise checks made to impersonate the victim. The mindthief retains her own attack bonus, saves, hit points, and ability scores while using this power. The transfer lasts for five minutes per manifester level the mindthief possesses (not counting manifester levels gained as the result of this power). |
| Kalthandrix07-31-05, 09:19 AM | Interesting.... I like it, but something does not seem right about it yet. Here is my thought. Instead of detect psionics, I would require Ego Whip or Id Insinuationas a power prereq. The way I read this class seems to make these two powers jump up and scream "Take me! Take me!" I would also make the disguise bonus something like a +10 compentance bonus. Good work, I am out of cookies but when I run to the store I will buy some Scooby Snacks for you :D |

I would also make the disguise bonus something like a +10 compentance bonus. The original idea for this one was a hybrid between the Psychic Rogue, the (lame) Cognizance Thief from Player's Guide to Faerun, and the Mind Bleeder from Rifts Africa. One of the things I went into the project with is that I wanted it to be equal opportunity for all the psionic classes, that's why I don't want to include Ego Whip or Id Insinuation as a prereq. A rogue/psi warrior would have to be at least 10th level to pick up the class if I did that (rogue 3/psi warrior 7), while this way it can be done with rogue 3/psi warrior 4. I did change the competence bonus though. Good work, I am out of cookies but when I run to the store I will buy some Scooby Snacks for you :D  :) |
