Final version:

The Seeker PrC (The Cartographer PrC)
"Not lost. Not yet. Off course only 30 miles. South there."
- Tch-yack-cak, tohr-kreen cartographer to a dehydrated companion.

Wandering the Athas is a sport pursued by only a few. While the tablelands are mostly charted, the hinterlands, far north and south and the Silt Sea are not. Those brave souls who risk their lives traveling into the unknown searching for new fertile grounds, ancient ruins or distant settlements are as often found dead as they are rewarded by finding something of value. The information and the charts they produce always put up a good price to many Merchant Houses.

Individuals with inborn curiosity, such as humans often set out into the search for that special "something", over the horizon. Dwarves every now and then set out with their life focus on finding a new ancient dwarven stronghold. Thri-kreen and Tohr-kreen can be found roaming the no-man's land, their reasons their own. Even half-elves tend to appreciate the solitude of the search for some new landmark, or perhaps a decent place to turn into their druid's groove.

NPC Seekers vary greatly, depending on what they are searching for. If it's treasure, they may be companied with a band of mercenaries, and quite hostile. If it's scientific search such as cartography or pure love of the
nature that drives them, they could be open to new rumors one can give them and accept fellow travelers into their camp.

Class features

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Seekers gain no additional weapon, armor or shield proficiencies.

Produce parchment: The Seeker can produce parchment out of virtually any material. Be it clay, hide or tree bark, he knows how to turn it into writing material. It takes half an hour for a small amount clay or tree bark to be turned into a page, and half a day to dry the animal hide into parchment.

Track: Eat or starve. The Seeker becomes adept at hunting animals. He gains the Track ability.

Precise mapping: Wherever the Seeker roamed, he remembers the path to return. At 2nd level the Seeker can produce even the most complex maps and cannot get lost by following them. He gains +5 competence bonus on Craft (Mapmaking).

Alertness (Ex): The great unknown is a dangerous place. The Seeker at 2nd level gains the benefits of the Alertness feat.

Know Direction and Location (Su): At 3rd level the Seeker is at home in uncharted territory. He gains Know Direction and Location ability as per power description. This supernatural ability is always active.

Understand nature (Ex): At 3rd level the Seeker has spent enough time outside urban environments to divert his study to wild nature. He gains a +2 competence bonus on survival checks to find food and +2 bonus on Handle Animal checks. With a successful DC 20 Handle Animal check he can turn a hostile animal into a suspicious one, giving him enough time to escape uneaten.

Elemental Resistance (Ex): Having been constantly exposed to the harsh elements, the Seeker at 4th level gains resistance to extreme heat and cold. He now treats them as if they were only very hot and cold. Additionally, his skin hardens and now gains fire resistance 5 and cold resistance 5.

Study mapping: The Seeker can interpret any map he comes across, and can reasonably assume what part of the world it describes. He can also perfectly follow it if it has any landmarks he recognized with a successful Knowledge (geography) check.

Sustenance (Su): At 5th level, having been exposed to long periods without food and water, the Seeker's body adapts. He can now produce food and water for himself as per Sustenance power. This supernatural ability is always active.

Construct shelter: The Seeker has become quite adept at constructing make-shift shelters to spend the night. At 5th level he can construct a shelter out of virtually any material he comes across, be it wood, rock, plants or mud in record time (half an hour). Such shelters, natural looking in origin, give him +5 on hide checks against unwanted intrusions.

Applied geography: At 6th level the Seeker can reconstruct missing pieces of maps, and even inexistent ones if he has enough pointers on the surrounding areas, with a successful Knowledge (geography) check at DC 25.

Improved eye-vision (Su): Sight is crucial to the Seekers survival. His eyes become keener at 6th level. He gains low-light vision. If he already has low-light vision, he gains dark-vision 60 ft. If he already has dark-vision, it's range doubles.

Detect Hostile Intent (Su): At 7th level, the Seeker's senses become more acute. He can now manifest the Detect Hostile Intent power as a supernatural ability three times a day. The power will detect all hostile intent centered on him, including ones of the animals intent to eat him.

Intuitive seeking (Su): Combining the applied geography with his knowledge of nature, an 8th level Seeker can sense if there's anything unnatural in his immediate surroundings. Whenever he is in a half a mile radius of a constructed or otherwise artificial landmark, he can sense it even if it's completely grown over with vines and invisible to the first sight. This supernatural ability is always active. He can even sense unnatural construction up to 30 ft under ground.

Advanced eye-vision (Su): At 9th level the Seeker's vision becomes even more acute. He gains dark-vision. If he already has dark-vision, it's range doubles. If he already has dark-vision 120 ft or more, he gains blind-sense.

Emulate nature (Ex): One with the wild, a 9th level seeker improves his attitude towards living creatures. If he succeeds a DC 25 Handle animal check a violent animal will become neutral towards him. If he fails, it becomes only suspicious. Any shelters he makes in the nature give him +10 on hide against unwanted intrusions.

Resist Nature's Wrath (Ex): A 10th level Seeker's body is used to being tortured by the heat and cold. He now treats all natural heat and cold as if they were two categories easier. His resistance to elements of heat and cold increases to 10.

I think this thing could easliy be a 10-lvl. PrC.

Definately needs a few more cartogropher things to go along with the survival things IMO.

Hmm, yes, you're right. It'd be wise to stretch those survival skils and add more 'precision cartography' ones. Yes, I'll redo it.

Here, I tried to blend in cartography with pure survival, and allowed further spellcasting or manifesting progression. A complete overhaul. Did I succeed?

Wellll- there is a detail you overlooked. In the table is says +1 caster or manifester level gained, but in the description it reads and looks as if they gain both caster and manifester levels.

IMO this would be a great class without the addition of the caster or manifester material. Look at it this way. None of the abilities really require or amplify casting or manifesting abilities. The some of the abilities gained do mimic psionic abilities, so why would a character with those powers take this class if there it makes some of their abilities redundant.

Just my two bits thrown in.

And actually, you're right! This is in as a "profession" prc which means anyone can take it. I'm removing those.
