He now has more than 3 times his original hitpoints (150 in Iuz the evil, I've heard) What would be the effect of throwing him into the positive energy plane? He's CE, and the spell bolt of glory does just this, summons energy from that plane that will effect undead or evil creatures (usually lower planar) He would get his spell resistance against it, but for some reason, not if he was immersed in it. Would you allow the spell to circumvent his SR? Since it's just bringing energy from that plane? I had also thought that lich's were undead because their souls don't occupy their bodies, but Iuz is basically the same thing, his soulgem is in the Abyss and he's living. |

Remember in 2E a 20th level fighter would only have about 120 hit points. In 3E, he could easily have 300. Throwing him in the Positive Energy plane has the same effect as on any creature - you gain fast healing, and gain temporary hit points until you explode. This is covered in the 3.5E DMG. Bolt of Glory does something different altogether. It does specific damage to evil outsiders. Iuz, as a demigod, and a half-demon, is an evil outsider. So he gets affected like that. As for Spell Resistance, if the spell grants it, then Iuz gets to use his. If that wasn't the case, the spell would say Spell Resistance: No. The thing about the soulgem is a flavor description from 1st edition. It really doesn't mean the same as being a lich. There is no specific game rules about this in 3E. Basically it just means he can't be killed permanently unless you get the soulgem first. Any death of Iuz is just temporary. This applied to demon lords back in 1E days as well. ROB |

I can't remember where the spell description is though. Even though they are divine some beings would mop the floor with either Iuz that aren't deities, one or two SK's at the same time from Dark Sun, or Rajaat. |

Don't confuse the flavor (it is a bolt from the positive energy plane) with the mechanics (it is a ray, requires a touch attack, says "Spell Resistance: Yes") on it. The only difference in the 2 spells is the amount of damage done and too whom. I don't know if errata or Spell Compendium ever cleared that up. There is no saving throw with the spell though. In either case, the damage to Iuz would be either 1d6/level, max 15d6 (Complete Divine) or 10d8 (Book of Exalted Deeds). As for beings that could take him out, for sure there are. He is not all that tough, only a DvR 3 demigod. My 22nd level party isn't quite ready for him, but they are close. They might win in a fight, but would probably lose a few people. 2 more levels and he is going to be in trouble. Lucky for him he doesn't hang out all alone.... ROB |
