Well my first campaign only lasted one session because I didn't completely develop a story line and such. I was wondering if I could get some help on the forums to create an intricated story line for a group of players (about 4-5 with some experience in playing). We'll be using 3.5 of course but I want there to be a lot of plot hooks and twists and turns that most adventurers won't see coming.

I was thinking of creating an interesting NE Sorcerer as the villian with a lot of back stories and tales. For example once one of his gnome's brother in law had a son and as the baby was born and left unattended one evening...the sorcerer snuck in and cast enlarge person and permanency on the gnome!

I do plan to keep working on this campaign for about a year and studying the rules really hard so that'll prepared next time that me and my group plays. All ideas are welcome in the crazy adventure!

The Big Bad Sorcerer is not mysterious. In fact he has many known relatives, son of a famous travelling witch and a wizard that rules a large city, brother to a cleric and perhaps he even has a equally evil wife.

The Big Bad hates his brother, both of them are powerful and sinister, and on occasion the party ends up in the middle of a battle between them. The cleric helps the party, acting as a advisor, but he has his own plans.

The mother of the Big Bad is amazingly intelligent, she spends her time making plots that fall into place years ahead. She is neutral on all matters, feeling people should care for themselves.

Under the city the wizard runs is a ancient demon the family's forefathers locked away.

Furthermore other attacks are being planned. Summoned monsters are beggining to get ****** off, and even the celestials are planning an attack. They are all ready to jump at the first opportunity, as are the elementals. All they need is an opportunity, and they all have agents seeking to create them, but also working against each other.

While all this is happening, things are beggining to get even worse. The moon is growing, the tides are growing, and refugees are running for the mainlands, creating chaos, which is being exploited by criminals all over. The growth of the moon might have something to do with the mass invasion of infuriated summoned creatures.

While the tides crash to new heights, the rest of the ocean is brought to new lows, and the creatures from both the deep ocean and the upper reaches are beginning to collide. Along with giant sea monsters occasionally occupying the surface is a strange plague, which targets those with magic, taking it away from them, and siphoning it off to a mysterious place(the moon, causing its growth, and its transformation into a massive gate giving any and all access to the material plane. The players don't need to know this). The sorcerer and his family, despite the evil among them, are also trying to fight this, and are in some cases allies.

The tides are causing one other change. The world is beggining to split along its fault lines, which gush lava into the air, along with possibly forming a second gate.

Also don't completely develop a story line, as it restricts the players, and will probably get them to leave. Just completely develop a world, along with people with their own plans. What I put above, for example, will probably be enough for several adventures, but you need to flesh out huge amounts of details, not the least of which would be the coasts and the fault lines on the world.

The threads of Fate are loosely spun together. In all our words and thoughts, we are not so closely bound as some would say. While wars may be fated, the warriors are not. Deaths will come from a plague, but how many and who shall fall is question.
The words woven by Fate, known only to those who answer their call before those words are known. It is thus how history unfolds. Who then, shall it be, that manifests the will of all that is?
"There are some who shall rise; there are some who shall fall; fire and water, earth and sky, all things thrown into conflict, and those who survive shall carve the world in their image."
Those are the words fate writes in these days. Who acts upon these words? Many forces appear to. One is your villain, who wishes to dominate all life with it. Others may wish to have it for other purposes, good or bad. One, possibly, is your party. This power, which has set the world and all of the forces in it into confusion, may be relatively unheard of, only secret power acting towards it. Or everyone knows, and that is why people seek it. Either way, this is the goal of the world and its powers; obtain that force which lets them be as gods for naught but one decree: One wish, no restrictions, no alterations, no limits.
There's one I've used before. It can actually make some pretty big in-character conflicts between the party once they realize only one person gets one wish, they don't get to split it, they don't each get a share.

I would consider this: if this sorceror is the BBEG then perhaps the pcs may know him by reputation--in fact they should not suspect him of anything wrong at all. However there might say be results of spells gone wrong, results of schemes of lackeys and things like that. I would keep him from being the obvious villain, perhaps creating a red herring villain type here and there.
