| Voila!07-14-05, 07:30 PM | The premise behind this thread is to see how to combine different settings and see just what we can come up with. By doing so, we can greatly exercise our creativity, raise awareness of interesting settings, and point out facets of existing settings that those interested parties may not have thought of. Heck, who knows, you might even make good use of a setting we have here. The rules for splicing, as I see it, are as follows: 1.) List two to three campaign settings, preferably one from the previous post. 2.) Enter in at least a paragraph on how you see elements of the settings can mesh together, and provide clarifications for anything that might seem cheesy or contradictory. 3.) If it isn't a particularly well-known setting, like Hyborian Age (http://hyboria.xoth.net/), Birthright, or World of Sulerin (http://www.sulerin.com/), include a link so people can gain some clarity. Just follow these guidelines, and it should all work out. For a sample, I'll do the first. 1) Ghostwalk (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/885660000) + Dragonlance (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/176680000) The Ghostwalk setting is completely turned around in this. The city of Manifest is now more of a semi-cosmopolitan area with a small humanoid population, run by dragons and their kith, situated near an ancient dragon graveyard, like the ones in Draconomicon, where the bodies of the fallen dragonkind are taken. Yuan-ti could still be in this setting, jealous of being left out of the dragon's afterlife despite having some connections with their reptilian ancestry. I can't say much more than that, not knowing much about Dragonlance myself. I'm a tad rusty on non-Eberron, Ghostwalk, or Planescape material. Anyone else want to try? |
| Ayers07-15-05, 12:24 AM | Neat-o. However, I doubt you'll manage a 1001, I think 101 is a bit of a stretch as well, unless people start including their own campaign settings too. I'll try to think up something when someone else posts. I don't really like Dragonlance, and have never played Ghostwalk, or even know what it is. :) |
| Voila!07-15-05, 07:48 PM | By 1001, I don't just mean any that are published. I also mean homebrew campaigns and any of the zillions of others drifting across the planes. All the more reason to include links to your listed settings, so people know what you refer to. There are millions of potential connections, you just need to think of them. |

Well, since you don't mind Homebrew, I will throw Altvogge (http://www.altvogge.com) into the ring. Altvogge is a geocentric material plane, where the stars seen from the Altvogge Sphere are Gateways that lead to a myriad of planes. The space between the Spheres is filled with Athra, a thin sort of atmosphere that many races(dragons, Kobaulds, etc.) can breathe. You can also burn a feat to become Athra Tolerant. Using your "multiverse" theory, some "new" stars have appeared. The Athra travellers could go through these new portals and find themselves .... Wasn't the point of this to combine it with a world that was mentioned in a previous post? Didn't you just list your own world? |
| Cymraegmorgan07-16-05, 12:18 AM | Wasn't the point of this to combine it with a world that was mentioned in a previous post? Didn't you just list your own world? The three dots signify an openended possibility, though Ghostwalk would be my first foray. And the very design of my CS allows infinite splicing. |
| Darkmeer07-20-05, 10:28 PM | Splicing.... Ghostwalk + Dark Sun. While the druids are mainly concerned with their groves, I think they would do well to protect the cycle of death as well. Add Dragonlance: Burnt world, where the undead dragon (can't recall his name) has defeated many gods. Mishakhal, kiri jolith, Gilean, and Shargonnas are still around, but being drained by the nature of the world. Their faiths are weakening, and their powers cannot bring people back (yay! no True Resurrection!). The true dragons are even dying off. The Black, Blue, Brass, and Copper have all died off. I even see it as Ansalonians believing that a second cataclysm has occurred (beginning their non-belief). The dead from the dragonwars are all heading for Manifest, while dragon highlords are looking for a way to revive Takhisis, using the souls in manifest. The abominations that are the yuan-ti have grown in one of the few forests on the scorched world (probably mutating from true elf stock), using it as a base of operations to infiltrate manifest to gain immortality somehow. |
| ragingmaro07-20-05, 11:24 PM | WalMart PA + Eberron After Walmart conquered the world with their WALMs-Warforged Automatic Law Machines, the Artificers rebelled and killed the board of directors. NOw WALMs try to keep order while bands of Aislers roam the aisles of Walmart trying to scavenge a life. |

| Voila!08-04-05, 01:53 AM | 5) A Dying Ember (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=464360) + Spelljammer (http://spelljammer.org/) There are a great many comets in the system of Døende Aske. When Hleid was shattered to the far corners of the earth, not every shard of her being remained on the ground or in the sea. Some of her essence flew into the atmosphere and even beyond, to form a massive, dispersed cloud of comets and skyburgs all over the system. It is simply lucky for Hearth that the cloud of rimefire comets is as thin as it is, or the sun would, effectively, be dead to them. Worshippers of Iborighu are always persecuted whenever they travel into space, as historically, they try to knock these comets out of the sky, hoping to cause more devastation to the world below. A few cults of Hleid worship the comets themselves, saying that she is truly one with the heavens. P.S. Darkmeer, great job. You have the idea down pat. |
| Voila!08-13-05, 03:29 AM | Geez, am I the only one who likes this idea? Here's another: 6) A Dying Ember (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=464360) + Imperium of Zuel (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=476024) Not all is well in on the Orbs of Solaris. Several have entered an ice age, and others are on the verge. The curious thing is that the furthest Orb from Solaris, Nocturn, is the only one unaffected by this interplanetary onset of cold and ice. If anything, the closest, the thri-kreen's home of Solarium, is the most drastically affected. Numerous tribes of the mantis-folk have perished, but with their history, the Imperium has done next to nothing to help. No one knows how it is occurring, but a certain cult that first formed in an ice cap of Padolis has been said to be on the verge of a dangerous discovery... |
| Moria08-14-05, 09:29 PM | Mmmmhh.... I don't know a lot about the last mentioned settings, so I will have to start with new ones Dragonlance + Magic, The Gathering In Dragonlance, you have 3 orders of High Sorcery AND the druids. So you only need to add a split order of Blue wizards, sick of the restrictions of the Council (or maybe just all the Sorcerers), and you have the five colors of Magic. |
| Voila!09-01-05, 04:31 PM | C'mon people. I don't want to do them all myself. 8) Imperium of Zeul (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=476024) + Relative Entropy (http://www.geocities.com/ivan_327/resetting.htm) In this new age of reason, mere faith simply does not carry the stigma it used to. We can clearly see life evolve and adapt in a myriad of different ways on our own world, and there are clearly many more. Clear and decisive thinking is necessary in order for the worlds to be unified in their efforts. There is a great deal of expansion to be had in the Imperium of Zeul, and with the Victorian flavor and swashbuckling spirit of Relative Entropy, you're insured a lifetime of endless adventure. |
| Darkmeer09-01-05, 11:37 PM | Shadowrun plus Diablo The city of Seattle sits in ruins. Diablo, Bel, and Mephisto have returned. The true magics have brought these terrors from their hidden prisons in the 9 hells out. Diablo, lord of all terror has taken the city and is crossing it into the hells. Add Planescape or Manual of the Planes (your choice, layers stay the same) Into Dis, where Dispater rules supreme, Diablo brings the City. The 'runners are concerned with the same corporate disputes, but now have to worry about breaking the much harsher Baatorian laws. The terror and rampant lawlessness brings the Devils to the city, declaring martial law. The various residents of Seattle are happy to get away from the Corporate problem for awhile, before realizing the true terror that Dis is MUCH worse. |
| Voila!09-13-05, 12:55 AM | 12) Relative Entropy (http://www.geocities.com/ivan_327/resetting.htm) + Planescape The overall tone of the planes has progressed past the medieval age. In Sigil, with Faction War come and gone, people need new ideas and concepts to sustain their thinking in the void created by faction destruction. And they're getting them. Many artisans have come into the fray, showing off their inventions. The gods and their ways are being questioned without mere finger-pointing like the Athar did. Exploring is one of the greatest pleasures of all now, and what's left of the Sensates can't get enough of it. Many of the planes themselves have moved on as well. Bytopia is even more industrious, and civilization has begun to flourish in isolated areas of Shurrock. The demodands have started to do a better job of keeping Carcerian prisoners captive, and the planes are better off for it. The Blood War, of course, will never cease, but it now seems limited only to the planes that lie between the homes of the two fiendish participants. Elysium has become all the more wondrous with its clear reasoning and immeasurable refreshment of spirit. |

| MagicMouth04-05-07, 03:35 PM | :bump: Eberron + Scarred Lands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarred_Lands) The world as we know it is no more. For ages, it was controlled both by the gods and their primeval Titan parents, though not without conflict. But time went by, and the gods could no longer stand by while their mortal worshippers suffered under the rule of the heartless Titans. Thus, a massive war of epic proportions was started, putting the divine beings against the very incarnations of the world´s power. The gods first acted as an unified front, but soon the vast differences between them led to conflict even as the Titan forces advanced ever forward. Ultimately, the gods managed to set aside their differences and defeat the Titans. The world was severely scarred, however, and only time would tell if the land could heal. As for the gods themselves, they were also weakened due to the countless worshippers lost in battle. They had no choice but to retreat to their divine realms and try to recover. However, the conflicts that were quelled during the war rose up again, and even though they could not fight each other directly they could influence their religious leaders to act against their enemies. The mortals were very confused: after having their gods at their sides for ages, this sudden divine retreat brought hysteria and paranoia to the already war-weary souls. As the years went by, they managed to rebuild some of their civilisations, but the nations are suspicious of each other thanks to the divine influence of their respective gods. This has put the land in a state of cold war: nobody dares to start a war after seeing the destruction the last one brought, but they continue to plot against each other. The heroes will have to handle the conflicts betwen the god-nations and prevent a new divine war, but also deal with the many monstrous servants of the Titans who survived and now wants to tear apart those who helped defeat their masters. All in all, this would combine these things: 1) The intrigue and swashbuckling action from Eberron, as well as the distance of the divine powers and the more gray morality. 2) The postapocalyptic scenario from Scarred Lands: a shattered land with monstrous creatures and imprisoned beings of unimaginable power. |
| yellowdingo04-06-07, 08:08 AM | Mystara & Spelljammer "Well it was obviously magical. What else could it have been?" "Elves wearing silver cloth armed with lightning wands flying about in a flying Discus. They stole your Livestock?" "They wern't like any elfs I know." "Were they Drow?" Queried the old beareded wizard with the funny hat and woodpipe. "No. They wern't the dark-folk." "One of um asked where whether we sold silk in more than one colour?" "Any Insigmia? identifying marks?" The Silk thing sounded a bit odd. "Ah yes!" Curtis Woodrun rummaged round his grubby smock and pulled the cloth. It was a rather nice multicolour flag with what looked like a planet in the middle surrounded by two sprigs of nettles. "They said the runes was 'Mystara Ever and Always'." The old Wizard contemplated his Spelljammer Lore. He had never heard of Mystara... DM Briefing: Blacklore Elves with Mystaran Magicbuilt Blacklore Technology have begun exploring the other realities as they expand their spacefaring empire. They Begin invading other worlds in Mage-built "flying saucers" and are armed with Blackmoor rayguns. |
| Delfedd04-06-07, 09:01 AM | AND THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE! Eberron + Forgotten Realms This splice is actually fairly simple. Set the campaign one hundred fifty years before the present Eberron time, and make the last war still in effect. All those high level NPCs you've got running around in Faerun? Yeah. Heroes of the last war. |
