| Anuvrix02-12-08, 09:56 AM | Yes, it is another 1001 thread, and has probably been done before... But i feel it needs updating. I would like everyone to list their greatest escapes from dangerous situations. Here, I will start: A player of mine (vampire halfdrow ninja) Was trapped in a 100ft wide sphere of iron. There were multiple walls of force lining the outside of the sphere, and an anitmagic field within it. He was boud in a leather suit, wrapped in chains, and suspended 50ft in the air be chains from every direction. (hundreds of chains) Each chain has an alarm spell ibued on it (from the ouside) so that if one were to break, guards would rush in. He was strapped ina straight jacket with hardened leather covering everypart of his body. He grew his hair and nails until they burst the leather, and then used his nails to cut a hole in the back of is suit. He then broke every bone in his body, squeezing himself larva-like ou of the back of the suit, to fall to the ground and fast heal back to full health. Then he broke one chain, killed the guards and fled thorugh the open door. (sorry for grammar, in a hurry) |
| squidyak02-12-08, 08:04 PM | Lets just say it began with my character saying "I've got an idea, everyone take off your pants." |
| Orchomenos02-18-08, 02:09 PM | How did he manage to not starve to death long before his hair grow enough to burst leather??? And how did he pass the wall of force? |
| Aberzanzorax02-19-08, 12:01 PM | cool story. To the poster above me...read more carefully. 1. The character was a vampire...no worries about starving to death. 2. The guards rushed in (the walls of force must have been down for that to happen). |
| Orchomenos02-19-08, 01:27 PM | Thought that vampires needed to drink blood to survive... anyway. |
| Trei02-29-08, 10:56 AM | The characters had just infiltrated the evil Imperial Navy's main naval facility, where they were constructing a huge warship. In an epic battle, they killed many guards and broke their good old friend Thog (human barbarian, loyal as a puppy) out of the brig. However, it was all a trap! More and more reinforcements poured in, and the naval facility on the island was surrounded with more warships. Thog roared, "It Thog's time to join fathers. You go to safety, Thog stall for time!" The rest of the party, fighting back bitter tears, knew this was their only chance to escape. They ran and hijacked the huge new warship as Thog set off the powder magazine on the island, resulting in a massive explosion -- they knew Thog had sacrificed himself for good this time. They sailed the warship and rammed it through the blockade, and sailed for four days before making port in a friendly city. As they were walking off the ship, they heard weird squishing sounds coming frok the aft. They went to investigate, and noticed a humanoid seaweed creature clinging to the ships. Cautiously, one of the players poked it with a stick, and it fell off into the water with a splash. And that's when the recognized it was Thog, covered in seaweed and general ocean slime! After the explosions, he and ran and jumped into the sea, and swam after the boat, and grabbed onto the rudder as it sailed off... but he was so weak, he couldn't climb onboard, all he could do was make his strength checks to hang on, and his fortitude saves not to pass out. The party cheered! Thog had escaped death once again! |
| crwydryny03-02-08, 01:31 PM | for my current charicter I would have to go with the time he was dealing with a undead army (someone got ahold of my copy of the zombie survival handbook the day before that quest and decided to do a night of the living dead style murder mystery). to set the scene, the charicters had arrived in a town with a strangly fortified cematry and no sign of any people. after finding everyone at a funeral and an encounter with a group of ghouls they decided to help out. later after getting the jump put on them by another group of ghouls and zombies summoned by the mysterious murderer they were tracking through the streets during a nasty storm the bulk of the party decided to return to the inn and rest for the night and pick up the trail in the morning while my duskblade/ranger and the party's halfling rogue decided to continue trailing the murderer (ruining the DM's plan for the next part of the quest) so the two charicter's track the murderer out of the town and into the cemetry (we should have known to stop right there). so the two find themselves in a dark cemetry at night during the worst storm imaginable where they can only see about 10ft ahead of them when they suddenly find themselves ambushed by more zombies than one can count. so after blowing his entire repitoire of spells, and hacking a few zombies to little peices small emough that the maggots didn't even have to chew they quickly realised they were outgunned, and were soon taking hits like no one could imagine. so thinking fast I grab the halfling and smash my way through the zombies only to find even more heading towards us out of the storm, cue the wild running through the cemetry just like any stereotyped horror film and next thing we know we find ouselves sliding into the river (which was now flooded), sucked into the the local sewer (an underground river) and managed to climb out through a storm drain somewhere in town (after 3 failed attempts to grab onto something) needless to say the other player's had a heck of a laugh when they found out (they were sent to get snacks while we played out the side adventure so no one else would know what was going on, only that we arrived at the inn smelling a little ripe) |

I generally try not to be a grammar Nazi, but come on. Now for my great escape. My Gestalt Duskblade warlock and My wife's Gestalt Cleric healer had been transported to a Hell like dimension. After sneaking past a few room like places we encountered a weird jellylike substance. For one reason or another I thought it was the thing holding this dimension together. I decided to destroy it. After a full attack of epic proportions I began losing WIS points as was my Wife. We assumed it was a trap to prevent it from being destroyed. Well, I attacked it again, and destroyed it. My wife and I suddenly found ourselves in a world full of white. Similar to the Elemental plane of air. Clearly the option here was to teleport out. However my DM informed us that we had destroyed the dimension, and were thus now existing in empty space, that doesn't really 'exist'. So, since we are in 'nowhere' we can't teleport out of it. Curious as to how to get out of here, and slowly being drained of each stat every minute we pondered and pondered, we couldn't go anywhere. The only way we could tell if we move is if we moved away from each other. Eventually My wife's character grabs a hold of mine and cast's prismatic sphere. Perplexed Both the dm and I ask her what is up. She then Explains that we are now inside the Prismatic sphere, which IS somewhere, so we can teleport out of it. Both the DM and I gave her a pat on the back for that one. |
| PeaceReaper03-05-08, 07:21 PM | Not sure this counts as an "escape" but... My players were in Undermountain. They came upon a goblin camp with about 9 armed goblins. The leader approached the party and said, "Yous maketh tasty-tasty meat for we tonight!" The druid and the rogue tried to negotiate with them, but the sorcerer didn't want to negotiate. He wanted to fight the goblins. So the druid and the rogue, since they had only like 2hp each, offered the sorcerer as food and ran for it. So the sorcerer was basically screwed. There was the sorcerer, 1 level, 1 dagger, 1 free hand, and 1 friggin scary tribe of goblins. The sorcerer blazed into action and killed them all, blasting his most powerful spells and getting a couple 20's with his dagger. He then proceeded to fall into a pit full of blazing oil and spikes in mad pursuit of the friends who almost killed him, but what the hey. All of them died, so he let bygones be bygones, even though he still doesn't trust them. So that's the great escape of the level 1 sorcerer. If you want the full story of it, check my post on the 1001 Clever traps for Beginners thread. It's got the whole death scene (every 2 seconds of it!) |
| Catwhoplaysguitar03-08-08, 07:07 AM | hmm almost the greatest escape I've seen, almost, the party - rogue, sorcerer, paladin. We'd been sent to mine some ore for this rich lord etc etc. Outside the mine there was a settlement of orcs (40 orcs) we figured that at lv3 we'd best try to sneak in. We succeeded there, killed a couple who followed and got the ore. No how to get out with large sacks of ore? The sorcerer cast light on the paladins armour, his robes, staff, the paladins swords, some gold vestements we'd taken from one of the dead orcs (random loot generator ftw) (the rogue put that on), and his teeth. We then walk out of the cave - we get seen, but the orcs are just staring at us in wonder, then one decided it wanted the shinies. The conversation went something like this: Paladin - wow it's working Sorcerer - of course it's working Orc - (says something loud in orcish and points to us) [the rest of the orcs seems to argee and start coming towards us] Rogue - umm, I think they like us. Orc - roars something [and weapons are drawn by the orcs] Rogue - Plan B!!! [Rogue and sorcerer start running] Paladin - what's plan B? R&S - RUN!!! Paladin - Oh . . . [then starts running as well] |
