A Divine Campaign [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-22-07, 12:24 AM I am putting together a new solo campaign where the player is the sole "prophet" of his god.

History: Hundred of years ago the gods (hundreds of them) fought massive wars across the face of the planet. Holy wars scourged the surface and the underdark. Eventually The Supreme Being (Ur) banished all gods from the Material Plane. Now they seek to manipulate "Earth" as best they can without direct intervention. No one knows exactly how many gods there are, or were. They seek power over the earth, and compete with each other for power. The races serve their deities, as clerics, monks, and paladins. Arcane users seek their own brand of power, competing with divinity.

The character: The main character be the sole "worshipper" of his god. He is bound to serve his god as best he can, and obey his commands.

What advice or ideas can you give me about this campaign? The main guy probably will be a cleric or a favored soul (Complete Divine). All splat books can be used, though probably Exalted Deeds, Complete Divine, and Complete Champion will be the only ones seriously needed.

10-23-07, 01:37 AM How 'bout it starts out in a little town where a teenage boy leaves with a sorcerer name Belgarath and a sorcerous named Polgara and a Blacksmith and they need to go track down a guy who stole the stone of Aldur...

But seriously, I like the idea of using a lot of deity in campaigns. I once had an idea where there was some sort of force making other gods go insane and so their followers would keep on showing up on insane quests that would either lead to their death or would just wreak havoc in the world and the most ardent followers (ones with PC levels) would go insane like their gods.

The goal is to find out what is causing the gods to go crazy and stop it before it infected the PC's god (and so the PC). This force could be another god or something amiss on the plane where the gods were created or Ur himself might be doing it to destroy all religion from the world to stop religious feuds.

The PC's would have to figure out how to kill a god (or take away his powers or whatever), go to this other plane after like finding an artifact or something, or they would have to convince Ur to stop what he's doing, which is possible, it just takes years of praying on a mountain;)
