02-02-07, 01:14 AM First of all I'd like to say that this is a really awesome community, you guys have submitted some amazing work to these forums and I'd like to say thank you in advance to anyone whose work I use in the future. Your all very talented and I am excited to here your input on this idea in progress. :)

I sorta just jotted all this stuff down, but I think it could actually come to something. So far the idea is the world after it has been bombarded by meteors and taken billions of years (or whatever) to re-evolve. The meteors left behind these great crystal monuments that have altered the evolution of the new world with either magic or psionics.

Some issues: I cant decide if I want to go with a spell point system or psionics. I think spell points would be fun, but then there would be some issues with balancing the system (yes I am aware that there are lots of people who think psionics are overpowered). I also want to make the magic/psionics a major part of everyday life for all people, I'd like ideas on how to do that if anyone is interested.

And of course thankyou for taking your time to read this, sorry it got so long.

The end of the world has passed.
The human race has been wiped from the world.
From the wreckage rose a new era.

-The meteors that enveloped the world left behind powerful magic/psionics

-Enough time has passed for the world to be re-grown, but magic/psionics have caused it to evolve much faster and to grow unnaturally (it still has been millions of years)

-The new beings of the world are born of these powers, and as such have a special affinity to it

-Much of the magic/psionics are contained in enormous crystal spires left by the apocalypse

-The power within these crystals fuels the power that generates the world

-Ancient ruins of the world are the remnants of great skyscrapers and malls from the human era

-Guns found in the ruined places have been magically/psionically replicated

-Shard crystals made up of the same powers that created the spires are rare, but extremely powerful

-The shard crystals’ power can be harnessed by someone with the proper knowledge

-Magic/psionics are a part of everyday life, they have a major impact on where and how cities are constructed and run (How to incorporate this in common life)

-Creatures untrusting or afraid of magic/psionics annex themselves from society

02-02-07, 01:18 AM The creatures born from the meteors magic. Are they going to be a new race? Do the standard D&D races exist at all? Enlighten me a little. This is pretty close to the history of my world.

02-02-07, 01:23 AM The idea is that before the apocalypse it was our world, humans, and cities, and technology. I wont use the standard races, although I might take the elf change its "fluff" but keep its abilities if I try to keep it simple. Humans will not exsist in the world though, they're all gone.

02-02-07, 09:42 AM Re work the animate objects spell and have a mage order devoted to making "useful'rather than 'selfish' magic.For example,create animated wagons that don't need horses.Create an animated,magical saw blade rather than a blade for a fighter?A magic sawmill could cut 2-4X as much wood and reduce the cost of all wooden objects and homes by 25-75%?Magical paint that absorbs light all day and glows all night,could reduce but not eliminate shadows of the city?A golem with a psi-crystal in it could be a workbot,made from cheap wood or clay and controlled by a different worker each shift?Imagine a lightweight rickshaw with a third wheel (powered by magic)taking the place of a runner?Magic printing press and magic papermill makes newspapers and magizines possible ?RANDOM THOUGHTS

02-02-07, 08:52 PM Savage Species has a lot of anamorphic races with high wisdom scores,use these as if they were moreaus from d20 modern.Keep the d+d stats but give them an artificial origin,this would exsplain them outliving their human creators?You could group the animal men by continental groups(EX.wolves,bears,horse in the north america grouping in a country?).RANDOM THOUGHTS.

02-04-07, 03:10 PM Well,I highly reccomend the savage species,it has material on awakened animals,anthropomorphic races (and a method for creating new ones)and tips on playing unusual races.Better for the DM than player I think because players see it and want to turn the party into a travelling freak show.I like the anthropomorphic races better than moreau because theres more of them and they tend to be more varied.Just a suggestion,you could use the moreaus well enough,have you read MOREAU OMNIBUS BY S.ANDREW SWANN,it gives me thoughts on moreau culture and personalities.

02-05-07, 11:49 PM Psionics are difficult to adjudicate,I might just give out innate spell abilities if I was you,I mean there are versions of the mindflayers and the yuan-ti that use innate spells to replicate psionics.RANDOM THOUGHTS

02-08-07, 05:40 PM If you are going to use psionics, you might also want to consider using the spell point variant for spell casters from Unearthed Arcana. It works similar to how psionic reserve points work.

02-09-07, 06:00 PM A demon can possess objects and animate them if the CR of the animated object is smaller than his own?Suppose a modron could possess items like a statue?This would give you a race of robot-like capabilities?Also,suppose a druid used MASS AWAKEN to create a race of awakened animals or trees?A race of talking dogs that were transformed by men might be like blink dogs without the blink?Suppose the non-blink dogs developed a different psionic ability like telekinese?RANDOM THOUGHTS

Something Final Fantasy X'ish.

The world was destroyed when the meteor/comet hit. But the act was so quick and violent that the souls of the living couldn't let go. Their gestalt will/conscious remade the world in a private demi-plane. Well, sort-of remade the world.

The world is broken, maybe giant island landmasses spinning around "something." Maybe a whole world with a giant crater.

The key is the crystals are really the souls that couldn't let go. They grant psychic powers, but they are also responsible for creating the entire world and keeping it running. And, the crystals/souls are also responsible for birth of the new races. They aren't really new, but manifestations of the souls that were able to escape the crystals. The freed souls/new races are warped by the pain and shock of the destruction and this changes their appearance into new races.

Thus the crystals, world, new races, psionics, and the afterlife are all interconnected. Too many races practicing a lot of psionics and the world begins to fall apart.

The world is but a dream of the souls that refused to go on. How's that for metaphysical setting that makes your brain hurt?
