A Song of Roses and Thrones [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-17-07, 01:34 AM ((Ok! First post is, as usual, fluff! Please try and enjoy this, what I hope, is an original idea.))

For millenia all of the creatures of this world had been held under the iron-fisted rule of the Seelie Court and its counterpart, the Unseelie Court. At the head of each court sat their ruler. At the Seelie Court ruled King Ambrose, and the mad ruler of the Unseelie Court, the beautiful Queen Dianna. Long had these two ancient beings commanded the respect of millions of creatures, from the lowliest ant to the mightest dragon, kept in check by only the most ancient of all Fae magic, their numbers low.

Amongst the innumerable slaves that the Fae counted as theirs were humans. And amongst this number rose two, two brothers, Lorian and Veland. These two had a gift, an odd one, they alone could bend the Arcana of the world like the Fae. Their talent was hidden, it had be. Their mother shielded them from any prying eyes, and when the boys matured to the age of eighteen, they unleashed their power.

Lorian, the elder, was able to raise the very earth and call down fire from the sky to shield and free his fellows. His touch turned the foul bonds of the Fae to rust, the wicked fetters shattered. His guidance and vision, aided by his brother's fire of will, gave rise to the slaves. One night, they planned a daring escape, and sure enough, they did just that. However, in the chaos, their mother was cut down by a Fae knife.

Her life was avenged ten-fold by the hot-blooded leader, Veland. Whispering words of terrible arcane power he smote the Fae soldiers, the knights and mages, by the thousands. The sky darkened at his word and beings of unbelievable force and potency, things the Fae dared not even name, emerged from foul portals he created to devour any who opposed them.

Ten years were spent fighting the war to free all who were bound under the Fae, until the final battle was waged. Both Courts united in fear of the brothers, who sure enough, tore down the very walls of the Court before wiping both rules out with a flash of their eyes and foul scream.

The slaves had been freed, the damage, however, still needed to be undone. That night the brothers gathered everything before them, all races, stood as equals in pain and suffering. They offered this.

Each brother would found a nation, massive lands the both, and in those lands could live any creature who wished it. The brothers would rule based on their styles. Lorian would rule based on merit and strength, on will-power and purity of heart. Veland, however, would rule on strength and cunning, ruthless efficiency and power. Immediately divisions were made, and thus the one true union of all races was sundered forever.

History would write itself from there...but the heroism of both men, Lorian and Veland, and the brave beings who fought along-side them in the gruesome War of the Wailing, would never be forgotten, even a hundred years later...

-Low-magic world. Wizards and Clerics do not exist. Magic is something that comes purely from feeling and natural gift. Sorcerers are the only Arcane magicians. Favored Souls are the only divine ones, except for Druids, who are only found in Lorien's kingdom.

-The remains of the Fae Courts remain scattered about the new world. Most Fae are centered in the locale of their origin, the Summerlands. No non-Fae knows the location of the Summerlands, and if they were to find it, they would forget it ever existed.

-Outsiders do not exist as they do in standard D&D. There are no weak demons or devils, they are all beyond the comparison of mortals, except for the Brothers.They are bound away by ancient Fae magic which is founded in their kingdom.

09-17-07, 01:56 AM The war was one hundred and forty nine years ago. The 150 mark is coming up this year, meaning a great ressurgance of Fae power is about to come :D! But don't tell anyone! :incog:

I really dont see the Elves forgetting something that happened - in elf time - last week. If the Humans have forgotton why they are fighting simply because the war has paused for a few centuries then they deserve everything they are going to get.

I don't think they've forgotten. They just don't know that the fey are about to get a power boost. If I were an evil fey, I would make damned sure I kept the nature of my powers a secret.
