| HermitIX02-06-08, 01:02 PM | I have some elements I want to build an adventure around. But I am having a little writers block. (Story of my life) I want to send the players to a local theater. The actors will be performing a “cursed play” similar to Macbeth. When the characters show up no one has died yet, but the most dangerous accidents have all revolved around the shows female lead. She fears for her safety and wants the party to help stop the accidents. When this is all over, assuming the party has saved the day they will be approached by the actresses’ mother who will offer them patronship. I haven’t figured out what is actually going on at the theater. I want the adventure to be dripping with theater mythos. Full of superstitions like don’t wear yellow on stage and don’t whistle back stage. What are some theater myths? Do you have any ideas for a good mini big bad for a level 1 or 2 party? (I am thinking a Mephit) What kinds of “accidents” could have happened or could happen? |

Keershaz is essentially a former devil lord who was punished by a rival by being turned into a weak little creature like an imp. Essentially he was forced to flee to the Prime because of this, with the enemies he had made chortling in glee at his fate. His curse is wrapped up in the fact that he has to cause (by whatever means) the deaths of 100 good aligned heroes. What I'd suggest is that you make him fairly close to the beginning of his quest to return to devil-lordship, and have him have imp/mephit/devilkin type abilities, either shape changing to something ordinary or invisibility or whatever plus whatever would enable him to be workable in your story. Accidents: falling sandbags fire (knocked over lantern or candle) rope (trip or even accidentally yanking people like a noose trap) falling prop collapsing floor area Also you might want to look up "The King in Yellow" for a stage play, only call it something different, there are various titles. I'm pretty sure there is an online script and characters you could refer to. If players/pcs have awareness of the idea of Cthulhu mythos they might get freaked out, but it would be a good red herring for what's really going on. Also stage actors can often have their own petty rivalries, this might give you a good set of red herrings to use. |
