I was just watching the Sci-Fi channel movie Tin Man and though to myself: What the hell, that sounds like it might make a wonderful D&D campaign setting. What would really make it shake and give it a very unique feel is the way it is connected to RL through tornadoes. I could even imagine a PrC 'Tornado Jockey' that lets you travel all over by jumping through tornadoes... But I digress.

My idea is simple: Take the RL world map and wipe it clean of cities and countries and whatnot, make it a clean slate, this will be our base map for Oz. On this map we can begin building various regions and kingdoms within the greater Oz. There would be the Witch of the North living in the Arctic Circle, the Witch of the East in the Orient, Witch of the West would be in europe or the americas, and finally the Witch of the south would be on the Antarctic continent.

The Yellow Brick Road would be an ancient highway that goes through many magical gates that carry travellers to the same road but on every continent. The road itself begins and ends in the Emerald City, located on what would have been called Atlantis in the Real World.

What do you all say?

Seems okay. But I remember an actual poster of oz that showed it to be perfectly square? If I had the time I'd like to read the whole Oz series over again, maybe also read "Wicked" the book based on the broadway play.

Yeah. Oz has no ports.

Also, Europe is MUCH to far for one girl to walk.

Also, according to "Tin Man" the O.Z. is flat, because thats the only way an eclipse would cover everywhere.

Oz is rectangular. The length and width are different but the angles are still 90 degrees and the sides are still straight. It exists on earth, but is surrounded by a sea which in turn is surrounded by a desert that turns anyone who touches it to sand. That's how it was in the original stories.

Hmm.. SO it would be a rectangle, surrounded by a sea and the shifting sands. Sounds good to me, it will keep those pesky adventurers from escaping:D.

Actually, according to the books, Oz is just one country of an enchanted continent. This continent is supposed to exist somewhere on earth (though you could easily change that for the campaign setting) and is surrounded by a body of water called the Nonestic Ocean. This ocean is rich in a type of plankton that gives it a vaguely purple hue.

Oz is a landlocked, square-shaped region surrounded by the Deadly Desert. According to some of the books, this desert gave off poison fumes, according to others, it turns all that touch it into sand, or both, or neither (Baum wasn't all that consistent about this). Surrounding the desert are countries like Eve and the Nome Dominion, and the Nonestic Ocean contains island kingdoms like Pingaru, Rinkatink, and the Gosian Archipelago.

The continent sits on top of a complex underdark, which houses races like the plantlike Mangaboo and invisible Vo.

Yes, when I was little I read every single Oz book.
