Info:
The Serayans are one of the few gifted people across Aistura that are able to manifest psionics. Indeed, the Elans themselves where created by human wizards when they tried to imitate the power of the Seraya. In an attempt to become the new masters of the mind, the Elans waged a horrible and bloody war against the Seraya. This war nearly whiped out the Seraya as they were a peaceful people back then. Now however, as they are being hunted down by the Elans, many have turned to the path of the warrior. They have abandoned their great cities and ran into hiding in the wilderness. Fortunately for the Serayan, a civil war has broken out amongst the Elans as not all of them agreed with the horrible genocidal war.
Stats:
+2 Int +2 Cha -2 Con
Serayans start with two aditional power points at first level
For one PP, Serayans can gain a +1 on any save (Cannot stack multiple times)
favoured class: Psion
Automatic Languages: Serayan
Bonus Languages: Any

Bard
Barbarian
Some barbarians worship Narok, the Chaotic god of war. They focus more on feats and tactics that involve greater skill at killing one opponent than many. This means that few barbarians who worship Narok ever get the cleave feat. However, these are just the pious barbarians. Most enjoy cleaving through ranks of weaker soldiers.
Cleric
Clerics are mostly unchanged from their concept in the PHB except that they cannot worship ideals, only deities. See pantheon for list of deities.
Druid
There are two main sects of druidism in Aistura. One is chaotic neutral, and believes in the chaotic, free will of nature. The other is lawful neutral, and believes that every occurance in nature is part of a strict natural cycle that must be preserved. The two factions often fight over dominance of pieces of forest because they both believe that it would flourish more under their tutelage.
Fighter
Fighters are unchanged from how they are presented in the PHB.
Monk
Monk's have a smuch more simple psionic connection that taps into a part of the mind called KI. This allows them to see the opponents actions before he does them, dodging blows easier and knowing precisely where to strike. The ability to channel KI in this way was discovered by the Serayans and many monestaries have a Serayan elder leading it.
Mystic (NEW)
Mystics are like clerics except they are less combat focused. They have a poor BAB, D4 HD and no armor proficiencies. They are however balanced out by the fact that they can cast all of the spells on their spell list spontaneously. Also, instead of drawing power from god's or deities, Mystics draw their power from ideals and magical spirits. They can pick any domain as their domains except that they can't have opposing alignment domains.
Paladin
Paladins mostly worship Irenias or Austriel. This divides them into two different ideologies of paladins: the templar who protect the innocent from evil, and the crusaders who seek out and destroy evil before it can cause harm.
Psion (Available only to Elans and Serayans)
Psions are the more common of the two psychic classes. Like psychic warriors, they are restricted to Elan's and Serayans, the two races with powerful enough mental gifts to manifest powers.
Psychic Warrior (Available only to Elans and Serayans)
Psychic Warriors are the less common of the two psychic classes. Like psions, they are restricted to Elan's and Serayans, the two races with powerful enough mental gifts to manifest powers.
Ranger
Rouge
Sorceror
Sorcerors in Aistura very rarely draw their powers from draconic heritage. Not only are there not many dragons, but those that do exist are often disgusted at the idea of mating with a humanoid. Instead, sorcerors powers are drawn from other sources such as celestial or fiendish heritage, even fey heritage can bestow some gifts many generations down the road. The most common though, is that one of their direct parents was a powerful wizard or another sorceror.
Wizard

In Progress (Incomplete)
Gods are either created spontaneously from the pool of wonders on the astral plane (see cosmology), or they are mortals of at least 25th level who survive drinking some of the pools magical waters. Spontaneously created gods or their children are greater deities and are created at 40th level. Mortals that acend to goddom are lesser deities.

Lesser Deity
LG
Common Followers: Fighters, Paladins, Rangers, Warriors, Soldiers
Favoured Weapon: Longsword
Domains: Law, Good, War, Protection
Info: Irenias is one of the two most common deities for clerics. Unlike Austriel, Irenias preaches that whilst some people may seek out evil and destroy it before it can gain harm, you should always protect the weak from the dangers of those that the zealous crusaders fail to root out. Paladins and clerics are often seen sacrificing themselves for the safety of others.

Greater Deity
LN
Common Followers: Druids, Rangers, Lawful Fey
Favoured Weapon: Quarterstaff
Domains: Plant, Animal, Law
Info: Nienya is the Lawful deity of nature and is the creator of Aistura's seasonal cycle of weather. Nienya was created along with her more free-willed brother, Heronis. Although their followers, which are mostly druids, often fight and disagree over which deity should have complete sway over nature, Nienya and Heronis know that they are both required to fully accomodate Aistura's needs.

Greater Deity
CN
Common Followers: Druids, Rangers, Chaotic Fey
Favoured Weapon: Scimitar
Info: Heronis is the chaotic deity of nature. He is the cause of everything chaotic in nature, such as storms or un-seasonal weather. Heronis is Nienya's brother, because they were both created in the pool of wonders at the same time. Although their followers may fight over who deserves dominance over nature, Heronis and Nienya have realized that they are both needed in order to maintain Aistura.

Lesser Deity
CN
Common worshippers include Barbarians, Fighters, Mercenaries and Rangers
Favoured Weapon: Greataxe
Domains: Chaos, War, Strength, Destruction
Info: Narok is the chaotic god of battle. He preaches that to die gloriously in battle is the greatest honour a man can achieve in his lifetime. His clerics are always striving to find more challenging foes to defeat to proove their worthiness to the rest of the clergy. A common saying amongst the church of Narok is "It is better to kill one giant than it is to slay a thousand goblins". Naroks followers often hire themselves out as mercenaries and they relish wish joy at the sight of battle. They are amongst the bravest and more talented soldiers an army can hope for.

Lesser Deity
LN
Common worshippers include Fighters, Mercenaries, Rangers, Generals and Soldiers
Favoured Weapon: Halberd
Domains: Law, War, Knowledge, Protection
Info: Arius is the lawful god of battle and strategy. He is disgusted at Narok and his savage barbarians charging madly into battle. Arius believes the best course of action is a good plan and teamwork. Generals enjoy hiring Arius' followers as mercenaries because they are very well diciplined and well versed in the strategy and art of battle. Sometimes however, a cleric of Arius may believe he has greater tactical knowledge of the situation than his commanding general and decide to take charge.

Lesser Deity
LE
Common worshipers include fighters, warlords and tyrants
Favoured Weapon: Greatsword
Domains: Law, Evil, War, Strength
Info: Karnak is the god of tyrants and pride. His clergy believe that to gain power, one must constantly prove he is better than those weaker than himself. Very similar to the italian prince machiavelli, Karnak believes that good is for the naive and that evil is the only true way to gain power.

Lesser Deity
LG
Common worshippers include paladins, fighters, rangers, warriors, crusaders
Favoured Weapon: Bastard Sword
Domains: Law, Good, War, Strength
Info: Austriel is the godess of crusading. She teaches that evil will not go away by ignoring it or by simply asking others to get rid of it. You must destroy evil yourself. She teaches that it is important to "take the fight to evil, before they take the fight to you". Her followers often lead crusades into orc territories or tyrannical kingdoms.

In Progress (Incomplete)
This is the material plane. It has no abnormal properties or effects on it
The ethereal plane is standard to the normal DnD ethereal plane and does not differ from it
The Astral Plane is standard to the normal astral plane in DnD and does not differ from it except for the lack of githyanki and the existance of the pool of wonders. The pool of wonders is a well that contains waters with the pure essence of divinity trapped within them. Those below 25th level that drink from it must make a DC 40 will, reflexes, and fortitude save, or else be slain. Even if they succeed, they remain in a coma for a full year (This is irreversible except for via wish or miracle spells). If someone of over 25th level drinks from the well, they must make the same saves, but if they succeed, they accend to goddom and gain divine rank 0. If they fail one of the saves, they become comatose for a full year (This cannot be reversed by any spell short of miracle or wish).
The plane of posotive energy is identicle to the description in the DMG
The plane of negative energy is unchanged from its description in the DMG

Not much, but looks good. I'm interested in the subraces you have goin' for you, and I look forward to hearing more about them.

Orcs in my world are different than MM orcs. I've gotten rid of half-orcs and made orcs with +2 Str. The Stats for all the races and sub-races are as follows:

I have formatted the first post so that it is easy to navigate and all of the information is there.

I was wondering if anyone could help me think of some halfling sub-races. Currently they are kind-of boring. I was thinking something along the lines of one type that lives in the wilderness, and one type that lives in the cities. Anyways, please give some feedback or suggestions.

You only need one type of elf.

Anyway, you need to show us more stuff for us to give you some opinion on your world.

But, again ill say: you only need one type of elf.

And if you havent readed The Silmarilion yet, do. Its the book where you understand elves arent just pretty women with pointy ears.
Kelmourne

07-20-07, 03:01 PM
Meh I started reading the silmarilion but i got bored. But I know what happens in it because Ive read the lotr encyclopedia cover to cover. Somehow I found that more interseting. What can I say, I just like sub-races. Also all of the changes I made to the core race in mysub-races aren't abilityscores or inate abilities. They are abilities created by that sub-races culture, such as favoured class or weapon proficiencies. Except the underground variants who would have developed some different traits after living down there for thousands of years. Also the tribal dwarves are an offshoot of dwarves that goes back to when the race was first created, and the same goes with the orcs.

Anyways I may be wrong but my opinion is that sub-races make a game more interesting.
Forfeit

07-20-07, 03:16 PM
Its stupid to have so many sub races. Its like you consider elves, halfling, dwarves and all the other races as dogs or just animals, that have developed in one place and cant survive anywhere else.

Yet, what about subraces for humans? Will you make black, asian, indian subraces too?

By creating subraces you hinder the versatility that these other races could have. You say that a old dog cant learn new tricks, or that an elf only knows what is inside his "race" profile. That is stupid. These races should be just as diverse as humans, and that means that if the color of their skin is diferent doesnt mean they are a completely new race.

Anyway, do what you want. But a world doesnt need 40 subraces, nor new races everywhere just because you found a cool picture of someone with a pointy ear coming out of a lake.
Kelmourne

07-20-07, 03:33 PM
Actually I made the serayans because I was looking for ra race to fill the niche of a second psionic race that could compete with the Elan's. Also, the other races aren't suposed to be as diverse as humans. Humans are supposed to be the diverse ones while the other races are good at certain things, hence the favoured classes.

Anyway, do what you want. But a world doesnt need 40 subraces, nor new races everywhere just because you found a cool picture of someone with a pointy ear coming out of a lake.

In case you haven't noticed, the Serayans fill a very important role in the history of Aistura and I think I deserve to have some new races, after all I did get rid of gnomes, half-elves and half-orcs.

Subraces are great if that's what you want. Elves and dwarves aren't real, if some people haven't noticed, so I don't think they will take offense at having subraces. :) Base elves on whatever suits your fancy; there is no "right" interpretation, and it's narrow-minded to think that a single book or setting is superior.

What do you plan on doing about languages? It may be realistic to have a bit more language variety, since there seem to be several different cultures within each race. For example, instead of Elven, you could replace it with High Elven (high elves), Wild Elven (green and sea elves), and Dark Elven (dark elves). Perhaps if you understand one Elven language, you could also get some idea of what those who speak another variant of it are saying, or they might have evolved into very different tongues.

My map is almost ready ( ihave the shape of the landmasses but I need to make it look prettier and shinier). Does anyone know how I can post the picture in the first post, because As far as I can figure out, it only uses pictures from websites.

Also the base stats for kingdoms are posted (More info will become available as map is posted)

I will suggest to you that though you call your various "sub-races" by the terrain that they live in/dominate, you give them a different name in addition to "sea elf" or "glacier dwarf". These titles are bland if used too often. What I have done for my own dwarves (as bland as their racial sub-types may be) is identify themselves by clan; this is a thematic element of invaluble nature. An example of this is a hill dwarf of the Flintknife clan identifies and refers to him self as a Flintknife Dwarf. Says hill on the character sheet, but oozes versimilitude everywhere else.

Also, your tribal dwarves; if they are tribal (and I am assuming not very up to date on the worlds' 'modern technology', then shouldn't they have an int penalty instead of a wis penalty? It is usually the wisest of the tribe who leads, not the smartest.

Finally; POST MORE FLUFF! you don't have to put alot down, but at least some on every subject whould be cool.

Nice idea on the sub-races. I will try and think of some names.

I have been putting off posting fluff for a while because I don't have a map of my world yet, nor do I have all of the kingdoms.

Also regarding the tribal dwarves, you make a good point. I think it could really work either way so it comes down to a matter of balance and what classes I want to steer them away from. I think in the end I will have to go with Intelligence.

But, ya, bottom point is im trying to get more fluff. Thanks for posting.

As for a Halfling subrace, how about re-envisioning the Stouts? These are halflings with some dwarvish blood in them.Say this makes them more lawful and willing to live in cities?Makes them more likely to work in stone as well?RANDOM THOUGHT.

You need to put up more fluff, since all I see is crunch and it doesn't necessarily translate to the feel of the game. Where are you going? What're the themes you want to focus on the game? Is it just a campaign world in the traditional D&D style or is it more? That's the stuff I'd like to read about. You've given us a smidgeon of information, genocidal Elans in a civil war, for instance, or what role the classes fill, which is good, but its not enough. Crunch is good, but I'm generally only concerned with crunch when I rip through published material for my own setting.

As to the subraces, do what you want. Seriously, its your game. I don't like subraces becuase I don't think that every little cultural difference requires a massive shift in mechanical paradigm - I don't think you need to add ability boosts just because one elf lives in the woods, intead of cities. But that's just me. I know a lot of people who like sub-races, because it grants them some differences to the character, so no two elves are the same in the party, and that's fine. It's not just something that I would use.

Good show though, put up some more.

Don't mean to seem so nit-picky about your races (as I'm sure everyone else here will attest to) but I think this race should have a +1 level ajustment.
Reasons are two bonus stats and only a single penalty, bonus power points, an ability for power points to be used on, and no other downsides. Also, you should have a timed limit on the +1 to save ability.

Also, I have to agree with reaper; maybe give the tribal dwarves lowlight vision instead of darkvision to even out the class abit more. Keeping it the way you have it though is a very minor edge as far as PHB races are concerned, and most definately not worth a +1 LA if you were to keep it as is (besides, maybe then someone will actually play a dwarf instead of nothing but humans all the time because of there generic-ness and bonus feat, but enough of my problems).

Also, thanks for posting some more fluff!
