This will be my first campaign, and I would be very thankful to everyone who gives some critique and ideas on my campaign concept.

my campaign idea came from a random curiosity while reading one day: where do all these spell components come from anyway?

My setting will be very eberron-ish (i won't specifically say it is eberron because I don't want to bother memorizing all the regions and peoples and events blah blah blah... I don't have enough time in my schedule to memorize all the things that someone else has written for me. So i'm just making a homebrew with plenty of eberron source books. It will just be easier that way.)

The campaign will start while two distant superpower nations war against each other, and how it is having affects on the magic component economy. Onyx prices, because of a massive influx of 'animate/create undead' spells, have doubled 7 fold. Exploration and smuggling of the precious black gems in distant, uncivilized and barely charted areas have now become very lucrative, yet deadly.

The first major goal of the party will be acquiring an airship. I have read threads between GMs before, and heard plenty about "railroading" so I want to give plenty of options. The group could get their hands on one by...

1. doing a few special errands for a House to get in their good favors, then promising a portion of profits(for good party)
2. competeing in gladiator style competitions for the grand prize
3. do some odd jobs/assassinations for the mafia, the promising a portion of profits (evil party)
4.steal an airship from a delivery company
5.Do some independent adventuring of mountains to the north in hopes of finding treasure and then saving up for an airship
6. robbing the bank headquarters' safes, laundering the money, and buying an airship

After the group acquires the ship new goals/story hooks i could work in could be:
*find and hire a crew
*Stowaways
*attempting to get supplies from islands along the way
*airship pirate raids
*being bullied by and fighting a larger, more organized exploration team
*House/mafia demanding more money
*snakes on an airship(you know i couldn't resist)
*making it to final destination, but via shipwreck
*interactions with natives/encountering the wild beasts

Other than the fact that I haven't fleshed out all the details of names of places, etc. yet. Any ideas? Constructive criticism on anything? thankyou very much.
