| HK-47 II04-21-07, 06:29 PM | I used to see alot of these, so I know their overdone. But I never got to participate from the beginning and have always wanted to. This is gonna be a Choose-aspects-by-vote project... we'll start with religion... A) Monotheism - one god or goddess B) Polytheism - multiple gods or goddesses C) Pantheism - The Universe is god and god is the universe D) Deism - There was/were a god/gods but he/she/they is/are all dead (some dead is covered under Polytheism) E) Pandeism - God died and became the universe F) Gods may or may not exist G) Gods don't exist H) Gods don't yet exist, but it is possible for mortals to become gods I'm gonna vote if we make it past this first one... religion is not my forte... (Vote 1 "Religion" Winner: Polytheism - multiple gods or goddesses) (Vote 2 "Religious Knowledge" Winner: Partial Awareness - not everything is known) (Vote 3 "Universal Origins" Winner: The Universe came about naturally, and the gods came later.) (Vote 4 "Magic Level" Winner: High Magic) (Vote 5 "Tech Level" Winner: Medieval/Roman) (Vote 6 "Psi Level" Winner: High Psionics) (Vote 7 "Incarnum?" Winner: Included) (Vote 8 "# and types of Pantheons" Winner: Multiple regional pantheons) (Vote 9 "Planar cosmology" Winner: Somewhat Similar to normal cosmology) (Vote 10 "# of Continents" Winner: 7) made a website for the world (http://www.freewebs.com/dndtds/index.htm) |
| Ilion04-21-07, 10:28 PM | I vote polytheism. There are too many good plotlines that come from divine conflict to ignore. :) |
| The_Shade_XIV04-21-07, 10:42 PM | Polytheism is good, although I like (D) as well. Probably best to go with Polytheism though. |
| die04-21-07, 10:49 PM | B with a touch of D |
| Golem01104-22-07, 04:51 AM | Agreed, polytheism. |
| HK-47 II04-22-07, 10:00 AM | Okay, doesn't look like Polytheism will lose so I'll start the next vote early... Known Religion (Vote 2) A) Intelligent beings are completely unaware of the nature of the gods B) Intelligent beings are partially aware of the nature of the gods (not all gods are known, their conflicts are not known) C) Intelligent beings are almost entirely aware of the nature of the gods (all gods, and their conflicts, are known) Edit: Oh, and I vote for C |
| tryco04-22-07, 10:33 AM | i also vote for C |
| die04-22-07, 12:49 PM | B again |
| Araes04-22-07, 01:13 PM | B vote, we always need some mystery in life. |
| Dyne04-22-07, 03:41 PM | Vote B |
| Ilion04-22-07, 06:29 PM | B for me, too. But I'd change "conflicts are not known" to "conflicts are partially known, but details vary according to who's doing the telling." So for example one character might "know" that the god of light opposes the evil goddes of darkness and his followers should root out hers. The followers of the goddess, on the other hand, "know" that they are an oppressed and misunderstood sect simply seeking out knowledge in their own way. Either or both might be right in various times or places. |
| HK-47 II04-22-07, 06:31 PM | B for me, too. Either or both might be right in various times or places. true... |
| Mournoth04-22-07, 06:33 PM | I vote a mix of B and C. The people know everything about their gods, but theres a whole nother pantheon they don't know of. The appearance of another set of gods could be a great start for a campaign. |
| Return of the Flumph04-22-07, 07:19 PM | B. The gods are definetely real, but contact with them is very limited. |
| OneEye58904-22-07, 09:22 PM | I vote for B, but I have a little spin on it. The people know that there are gods, but aspects of them are wrong or unknown. For example: Steve knows that Knell, god of life and the first god to be born, created all the races on the planet. He created them by himself, and controls major occurences that happen to living things. In reality, Knell did not create the races. They were already on the planet when he came, and he was definatly not the first god. He controls no creatures, just looks after them. |
| HK-47 II04-23-07, 02:04 PM | Okay it's about 2:00 in my Time zone and I think I'll make this the Deadline... Next Vote: Origin of the Universe A) The Gods created the Universe in it's present form B) The Universe came about naturally, gods came later. C) The Gods created the Universe as an experiment, The planes are other experiments. D) The Universe was created a very short time ago (think days or weeks), people have false memories from prior to the moment of creation E) The Universe was created a very short time ago (think days or weeks), people are aware of this but have knowledge as if it were older F) The Universe is a (Formerly) Minor demiplane that grew to plane status without godly interaction, some gods still ignore it Edit: I vote for F |
| Teh_Director04-23-07, 03:58 PM | B Although some people might think the gods created it. |
| OneEye58904-23-07, 04:20 PM | I like D, fits along with my idea for what said for the second vote. |
| tryco04-23-07, 04:30 PM | B Although some people might think the gods created it. i think the same |
| JokerMatt99904-23-07, 04:58 PM | I'm gonna vote F. |
| die04-23-07, 05:18 PM | A :D |
| Mournoth04-23-07, 08:20 PM | B. Just cuz i like evolution |
| HK-47 II04-24-07, 02:25 PM | It's a close one... but the winner is... B! The Universe came about naturally, and the gods came later. this vote was removed until later read no further.... this is a yes or no vote, I came up with a history of magic but I need to run it past you guys first... The Six Layers of Magic There a six kinds of magical powers that exist. They are all connected in a cycle... Only a few scholars know more than one layer... and very few know all six. Layer 1-Body Magic (Ki) - Physical power, especially techniques that go past the normal... Monks and Ninjas make special use out of Ki. Ki is the first layer because all creatures, atleast to an extent, use Ki. Layer 2-Nature Magic (Divine) - The innate life-force of the universe, twisted into magical Energy by Gods, or by one's own self. Nature is the second layer because it binds all Ki. Layer 3-Mind Magic (Psionics) - The force controlled by a single intelligence, a minor snag in Nature's force. Psionics is the third layer because it requires intelligence, but not a soul. Layer 4-Soul Magic (Incarnum) - Souls are made of Incarnum a Major knot in Nature's force, those who can shape Incarnum have Mastered the 4th layer. Incarnum is the 4th layer because, for a soul to exist, it requires the snag that is intelligence to become a large knot. Layer 5-Arcane Magic - This layer is kept shrouded in secrecy by those in the know. Some believe it is planar magic, others dimensional, still others universal... Layer 6-Nonmagic (technology)- This layer has been seen before, when invaders from another Universe came to the world. It is the only magic without any users in the world. So, yes or no? I don't have Magic of Incarnum (yet) and I suppose Layer 6 is too sci-fi (which is why it doesn't play a major role) A) I like the above, and wish it included B) We should hold this off until later C) No, I do not wish this included |
| tryco04-24-07, 05:03 PM | i like it, i think it's good. |
| die04-24-07, 05:11 PM | Sounds good, go with it |
| HK-47 II04-24-07, 07:37 PM | link to the website (http://www.freewebs.com/dndtds/index.htm) |
| HK-47 II04-25-07, 04:50 PM | Anyone have a name for the World? |
| Araes04-25-07, 10:42 PM | Well, here are a couple of somewhat linked thoughts. I would have voted no on the above vote. This is because I prefer the voting method, because its a nice, mild distraction that I don't have to divert too much of my thought to. The reason it is light and diverting is because the questions are relatively vague, and are about the fractal progression from high level details to small ones. Its a social phenomena that people tend not to like to leave areas where they are current members for highly specialized unknown ones. As such, it would be easier to keep the project here and simply continue with the method you have been using. The only successful example on these boards I can think of is the Campaign Builders Guild (http://www.thecbg.org/news.php) They might be a good option for doing something like this if you don't want to be on the Wizards boards, as they also host webpages for campaign worlds. Instead of a highly specific magic question, I would recommend something more vague. Ex: High, mid, low magic. Possibly another, High, mid, low tech. Or both at once: High tech (steampunk? renaissance?), High magic High tech, Normal magic High tech, Low magic Normal tech, High magic Normal tech, Normal magic Normal tech, Low magic Low tech (Roman age? Iron age?), High magic Low tech, Normal magic Low tech, Low magic |
| HK-47 II04-26-07, 12:13 AM | Sorry, I was a little over eager, I should have waited for the setting to develop more before making a site (and yes I have been to the Campaign builder's guild website, but they have a collab world, one that's too far in development for my tastes), I will however, leave it up (without forums) adding to it until It's close to finished, then I'll remove the specific idea until the settings more developed... so,... votes 4, 5, 6, and 7... to make up for lost time Vote 4 - Level of Magic A) None B) Low C) Mid (Normal) D) High Vote 5 - Level of Technology E) Primitive F) Bronze Age G) Medieval or Roman H) Steampunk I) Modern J) CyberPunk Vote 6 - Level of Psionics K) None L) Low M) Mid N) High Vote 7 - Incarnum? O) Include P) Don't Include I vote C, G, M, and O |
| Araes04-26-07, 12:38 AM | I have a strong temptation to vote Conan and do low tech, mid-low magic. But instead I think I'll go with: D - High H - Steampunk (Jules Vernish with magic) K or N. Either have em at the same level as everything else or don't have them. Don't really care as I'm not much of a psionics person. P - Nope. I've never been particularly down with melding souls into myself. |
| die04-26-07, 05:47 PM | 4 C 5 G 6 M 7 O |
| Return of the Flumph04-27-07, 12:04 PM | D F N O |
| HK-47 II04-27-07, 01:51 PM | Since two of the four votes are tied we'll have a tie breaker! Tie Breaker rules: only people who have not voted in the tied poll can vote in a tie breaker, but they must choose one of the tied options Magic Level C) Mid (Normal) D) High Tech Level-Winner= Medieval and/or Roman Level of Psionics M) Mid N) High Incarnum? - Winner= Included |
| Mournoth04-28-07, 08:47 PM | D and N. why: animated carts. just think about it. TOTALLY sweet. |
| HK-47 II04-28-07, 08:58 PM | ok, Mournoth was the tie breaker... there can be more than one vote in a tie breaker, but given the time elapsed... The winners are High Magic & High Psionics! Vote 8: Pantheons A) One Pantheon B) Two Competing Pantheons C) Multiple Pantheons by Region D) Multiple Pantheons by Race I was gonna vote A but now I think B... |
| Araes04-28-07, 09:23 PM | My vote is for C. |
| die04-28-07, 10:24 PM | I'm going with C as well |
| HK-47 II04-29-07, 02:36 PM | the winner is C: Multiple Pantheons by region... Vote 9: Planar cosmology A) As in Dungeon Mastar's guide (the Great wheel) B) Similar to normal cosmology, except Planes are holes in the fabric of the Astral Plane (There's a Planar "Sun", the astral plane is like the vacuum of space without the vacuum, Demiplanes are meteoroids, asteroids, and comets, and Planes are like Planets. Only full planes are large enough to enter without special access) C) The Astral Plane is like a country side, it's cities mostly abandoned (except for the few residents of the astral plane), spires exist in each city, when you climb to the top you gain access to the plane it represents. D) Other (please specify) Vote 10: Number of Continents E) 4 or less F) 5 G) 6 H) 7 I) 8 J) 9 or more I vote B and J (J because I've put all the possible continent ideas in a document file, named them, and counted what I wanted to include, I'll give you the same advantage if you'd like) Edit: here's the list... Vote 11 is gonna be choosing a number of continents and the highest (whatever we decide in 10) will become the continents... Auna - African themed continent Azaria - Aztec/Mayan themed continent Larenika - European Continent Ryruna - Roman/Greek Continent Voluxi - Magically Infused Continent Agia - Psionically infused Continent Guai - Technically advanced Continent (steampunk) Niryziu - Native American themed continent Jyzano - Oriental themed Continent Sylvatia - Forest/Jungle Continent Helutia - Arctic/Antarctic Continent Quirua - Incarnum infused continent Pikuro - Ancient continent (dinosaurs more common) Dajar - Arabian themed continent Undaya - Mountainous Continent, home of the Underdark Gendinjiy - Tainted continent |
| Araes04-29-07, 10:19 PM | Hmm, my temptation is to make another cosmology, but I"ll go with: C and G. I like the literal "stairway to heaven", as it were. |
| HK-47 II04-30-07, 10:19 PM | Anyone else for the recent votes? |
| HK-47 II05-02-07, 12:59 PM | To keep this thread alive until our other regulars get here, we should discuss something... uhh... oh! Araes, You choose six for the continents, did you have specific continents in mind? |
| Araes05-02-07, 03:55 PM | Sure, I'll bite, as I like the general idea. Guai - because I voted for steampunk. Pikuro - because I like Lost World and Journey to the Center of the Earth scenarios. Undaya - The names a bit too close to underdark, but I do love me some dwervish folk, mountain cities, ect... Those would be my main three. None of the continents themed after continents in our own world particularly interest me, but that's mostly cause they've been done before. |
| die05-02-07, 06:31 PM | Vote 9: B Vote 10: H 1 a mix of Niryziu and Agia 2 a mix of Guai and Pikuro 3 Sylvatia |
| HK-47 II05-02-07, 08:05 PM | ok b is the winner of vote 9, and vote 10... well, I'm willing to change my vote to as low as 5...will go forward as if it was 6-7 and see what makes it... A)Auna - African themed continent B)Azaria - Aztec/Mayan themed continent C)Larenika - European Continent D)Ryruna - Roman/Greek Continent E)Voluxi - Magically Infused Continent F)Agia - Psionically infused Continent G)Guai - Technically advanced Continent (steampunk) H)Niryziu - Native American themed continent I)Jyzano - Oriental themed Continent J)Sylvatia - Forest/Jungle Continent K)Helutia - Arctic/Antarctic Continent L)Quirua - Incarnum infused continent M)Pikuro - Ancient continent (dinosaurs more common) N)Dajar - Arabian themed continent O)Undaya - Mountainous Continent, home of the Underdark P)Gendinjiy - Tainted continent you have up to 7 'slots' each slot is a vote, you can combine continents as you see fit... you may not put 1 continent in more then 1 slot, combined or no... names can be changed later... Slot 1: M (Pikuro) + G (Guai) Slot 2: D (Ryruna) + I (Jyzano) Slot 3: J (Sylvatia) + O (Undaya) Slot 4: E (Voluxi) + F (Agia) Slot 5: K (Helutia) Slot 6: P (Gendinjiy) Slot 7: H (Niryziu) |
| Return of the Flumph05-02-07, 08:17 PM | 1. G+P (evil technocrats; think Oddworld) 2. L+M+J (ancient, incarnum-filled jungle of dinosaurs and mystics). 3. F+D (psychic Romans are da bomb, yo) 4. H+N (native American types living among the ruins of an Arabesque empire) 5. E+J (temperate forest where arcane magic has done all kinds of crazy things) 6. B+I (ancient china+ziggurats to the sun god) Will post 4 remaining continents soon. |
| Araes05-02-07, 10:38 PM | G + P - Because its an interesting concept and this will probably guarentee a win. M + J - I'd rather have the Lost World minus the Incarnum. K + O - Heh, because its a KO, and because I like the idea of dwarves that have built a society that thrives under the artic surface where the weather is not a problem. N + H - Nomads wandering through desert pursuing the equivalent of the desert buffalo. A + E - I don't know what "infused" means, but I'll interpret it to mean africans who practice animism magic where the world around them is full of magic spirits that inhabit all physical things. IE: the tree spirit, the bear totem, the river goddess, ect... (Shamelessly borrowed from myself on another thread) I + C - I think I might just be choosing based on the resemblance to phrases now... Anyhow, physically like Europe, smaller nations in larger landmass, constant squabbles for land, but oriental in theme. F + D - Eh, wth, psionic romans. Could have possiblities, I just need to think on them. |
| HK-47 II05-03-07, 08:53 AM | Before I tally the votes, keep in mind that when I say Taint, I mean "using taint rules that are in Heroes of Horror and Oriental Adventures, although if it could support any civilization it would be a steampunk one... Taint rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/campaigns/taint.htm) We can say that water is not effected by taint, and that there is enough steam in the air in cities to keep it at bay... |
| Return of the Flumph05-03-07, 10:56 AM | That makes it even better. The technocrats could be deformed by the taint, like morlocks. |
| HK-47 II05-04-07, 08:29 PM | Okay, I've decided on 7 continents: A Tainted Technologically Advanced Continent A Forested Primitive Continent (with lots of Dinosaurs) A Mountainous Arctic Region A Psionic Version of Greek/Rome A Combination Aztec/Asian Continent An Arabian continent with Inhabitants similar to Native Americans And a Standard D&D-Type Continent Any objections? |
| die05-05-07, 09:28 AM | No objections but how about A Tainted Technologically Advanced Continent with dinosaurs |
| HK-47 II05-05-07, 11:05 AM | I considered that, but due to taint they'd have to be undead dinosaurs.... |
| HK-47 II05-05-07, 03:37 PM | Vote 12: Number of Common Races This Vote represents how many races are "common" in the world... as in, if it had it's own PHB, which races would be in it. These are not necessarily ALL the intelligent races, but they are the ones available to the players. A) 1 B) 2 C) 3 D) 4 E) 5 F) 6 G) 7 H) 8 I) 9 J) 10 K) 11 L) 12 M) 13 N) 14 or more My vote is C |
| Araes05-05-07, 08:22 PM | My vote is for D (4) |
| die05-05-07, 11:40 PM | Another vote for D |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 08:38 AM | the winner is D) 4! Vote 13: Common Races In this vote we'll decide what those 4 are, you vote 4 times in this vote. I'm only putting up races that a 1) Humanoid, 2) LA 0 and 3) In books I own (PHB, DMG, MMI, XPH, Frostburn, Oriental Adventures (My only 3.0 book, but I have the 3.5 update from Dragon Magazine), I'm also getting Magic of Incarnum (but I've heard those races aren't good anyway so...))... A) Human B) Elf C) Dwarf D) Gnome E) Half-Elf F) Half-Orc G) Halfling H) Meanad I) Xeph J) Hengeyokai K) Korobokuru L) Nezumi M) Kobold N) Goblin O) Custom Race/s (you may vote for this option more than once, each vote applies to a different race) P) Race/s from other sources (you may vote for this option more than once, each vote applies to a different race) Edit: I vote (A)Human (B)Elf (G)Halfling and (O)A custom race |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 12:05 PM | I vote 4 varients of human. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 12:11 PM | interesting, but human subraces and varients are rare, so far I have 3, and 1 is custom... though it's feasible... |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 12:34 PM | Homebrew them. There can be a sort of corrupted subrace from the Technology of Evil continent, a psionic subrace from Psychic Rome, etc, etc. It might give the world more of a claustrophobic-sort of gothic horror-feel if humans are the only civilized race. |
| die05-06-07, 01:24 PM | Ok, I'll go with J Hengeyokai L Nezumi O Custom Race, some sort of goblin O Custom Race, maybe tainted humans |
| Mournoth05-06-07, 01:53 PM | A) Human L) Nezumi N) Goblin P) Lupins or Diopsids(from Dragon Compendium vol.1) |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 01:56 PM | Let's see here... J) Hengeyokai L) Nezumi M) Kobold O) I'll second the vote for tainted humans |
| Araes05-06-07, 02:16 PM | Well, J) Hengeyokai L) Nezumi because they're already going to win. O) Tainted Humans because it works well with the tainted steampunk land. N) Elves (non-endangered, tree hugger variety) because I like elves as long as they're not high fantasy enviromentalists and dying out. Perhaps Athas style or maybe Eberron. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 02:29 PM | The Winners are Humans, Nezumi, and Hengeyokai,... Tainted Humans also won, but as I meant races and not subraces (which I, personally would consider them to be) we have room for another, so, custom or Elf? |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 02:31 PM | What are the two asian-sounding ones and what book are they from? |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 02:35 PM | Nezumi are Ratfolk who are immune to taint, Hengeyokai are shapeshifters, with an human, animal, and hybrid form, the animal has to be tiny or smaller... They are both from Oriental Adventures, which is 3.0 but has an update in Dragon magazine... |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 02:40 PM | Yay! Rat people! I love those little fluffies, even though they get into the dresser sometimes. All comes of not having a good enough cage. That second race sounds pretty powerful. Does it have LA? |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 02:47 PM | It WAS LA 1 but in 3.5 with the removal of Shapeshifter as a type they became Humanoid (shapeshifter) and their LA went down 1 making it nothing... and keep in mind that their animal form is usually diminutive (it can be tiny, but usually isn't). if you want to know more you can ask on the OA boards here. There are multiple types including Crab, Sparrow, Fox, Raccoon, etc. I'd tell you more but I don't have my books with me. |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 03:18 PM | The Winners are Humans, Nezumi, and Hengeyokai,... Tainted Humans also won, but as I meant races and not subraces (which I, personally would consider them to be) we have room for another, so, custom or Elf? Meh, might as well go with elves, although I do hate tree huggers... |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 03:20 PM | We'll just have to make sure they aren't treehuggers, then. Maybe they can be the desert people? Archery actually is more helpful in the open desert than in the thick forests elves usually inhabit. |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 03:25 PM | Desert elves have my vote. Maybe we could work drow into the tainted continent as a subrace? |
| Araes05-06-07, 03:36 PM | although I do hate tree huggers... This would be why I prefaced my vote with "...as long as they're not high fantasy enviromentalists and dying out. Perhaps Athas style.." As such, I am very much in support of the desert elves idea. They could fill the niche in the nomadic desert land we voted on before. Also, is there an implicit assumption that humans are dominant in all areas of this world? I'd honestly prefer that not be a blanket assumption. Perhaps a vote by continent for the dominant race? But then again, I may be getting too invested - as you like HK. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 03:40 PM | I was JUST thinking that... Return of the Flumph you are amazing, you read my mind twice in one day, over the internet no less. But the reflavoring comes later... or now Vote 14: Human Flavor A)Humans are similar to the way they are in the PHB B)Humans are spreaders of good will and helpfulness except for taintborn humans who are extremely evil C)Humans are the supreme evil in the world, except for taintborn humans who are extremely good Vote 15: Nezumi Flavor D) Nezumi come from (tainted continent) where they are the successors to (ancient civilization) that was run by (ancient race of good) that caused (massive disaster) E) Nezumi come from (tainted continent) where they live off the undead caused by the taint from (massive disaster) F) Nezumi are an ancient race who's civilization collapsed when they caused (massive disaster) Vote 16: Hengeyokai Flavor G) Hengeyokai were a Scientific experiment H) Hengeyokai were a Magical Experiment I) Hengeyokai were a race of spirits or gods that were forced to become mortals Vote 17: Elf Flavor J) Elves come from (desert continent) where they worship a single god and his six servants K) Elves come from (desert continent) where they worship the spirits of the land L) Elves come from (Forest continent) where they worship their ancestors I vote A, D, G, K Instead of a variant Human, I'm gonna come up with an inherited template called 'Taintborn', who'll help me? |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 03:44 PM | I'm going to vote A, F, I, K. |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 03:49 PM | I'm going to vote A, F, I, K. What he just said. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 04:02 PM | I should have posted my reasoning... oh well... |
| Araes05-06-07, 04:04 PM | A, D, H, K Caveats: A - I'd like taint humans to be evil, just not the average human to be a do-gooder. D is interesting because it opens the options for rare creatures like "ancients" / "old ones", ect... that might pop up every once in a while. H is more interesting to me than banished / failed gods, and doesn't need to have prior high-scientific knowledge. K - They're desert indians, enough said. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 04:23 PM | I was thinking of a specific race as the ancient race of good, a race that is usually hated... lizardfolk... under a different name of course... Obviously this could be changed if you guys want... |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 08:49 PM | OH!!! I Just had an idea, this isn't a vote just a yay or nay thing... Each common race has 12 or 13 tribes based on animals... Nezumi: The 12 animals of the chinese zodiac Human: The 12 animals of the Native American Zodiac (I'll tell yo when I find the book I have about it) + taintborn = 13 Hengeyokai: The 13 different animal forms (replacing sparrow with parakeet, I have a reason for this) Elf: An entirely new zodiac of 12 + taintborn = 13 So... Yay or Nay? remember this is not a new vote, you can still vote for the last vote... this is a side thing... |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 08:51 PM | I say one zodiac for all the races. Including unlucky 13. |
| Araes05-06-07, 08:51 PM | Hmm, that's a vast amount of complexity to add, but what the hell, sure. I vote yea. *edit* Actually, I like Flumph's idea more. I second his concept of one universal Zodiac with the unlucky 13. I would also propose keeping the idea of lucky 7. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 08:59 PM | I'm not talking about zodiacs I'm talking about Tribes based on zodiacs... one of the kinds of Hengeyokai is Carp, would a desert elf be from the carp tribe. |
| Araes05-06-07, 09:17 PM | Quite seriously, depending on the history of the world, they very well could. For example, if they were originally coastal elves, they might have mostly been fishermen and greatly respect the bounty of the sea. In fact, they still could be coastal fishermen, as not all the elves have to be nomads, and there could be groups of elves that heavily populate the sea borders of the elven region. They might even be weird elves to the other, more nomadic varieties - "Forsaking the nomadic ways and living in solid buildings rather than teepees?!? The carp must have driven them all crazy." [/end nomadic elf voice] |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 09:28 PM | actually, Carp are freshwater fish... perhaps an oasis? Anyway, what about the racoon-dog, or Tanuki? ok, perhaps a forest... I just don't like the idea of multiple races sharing the same tribes without good reason, but it's majority rule, so perhaps we can come up with a good reason... Edit: okay so the tribes are: Badger Carp Cat Crab Crane Dog Fox Hare Monkey Racoon dog (Tanuki) Rat sparrow parakeet Weasel |
| Araes05-06-07, 09:58 PM | Heh, can you tell I'm not a fisherman? One explanation could be that the zodiac is general enough that it can be interpretted slightly differently by different groups of people to align with different animals (or inanimate things even). Much in the way that every race has their own names for the constellations in the night sky, but some of them naturally end up being similar, the poeple of this world could interpret the zodiac differently within each race. Maybe not all the "Carp" zodiac folks are actually aligned directly with the fish carp. Maybe some like salmon. Maybe the "Racoon" folks aren't all for literal racoons. Maybe some align with some other desert animal that's similar in shape? Maybe a sunbathing lizard, since I don't see any reptiles on that list. |
| HK-47 II05-06-07, 10:13 PM | Since the (ancient race of good) may have effected both the Nezumi and the Hengeyokai, perhaps it was their zodiac, and they passed it on to the later races before their civilization fell? If the votes fall so that they didn't effect them then they still could have existed, just even furthur back in time.... |
| Return of the Flumph05-07-07, 03:22 AM | Since the (ancient race of good) may have effected both the Nezumi and the Hengeyokai, perhaps it was their zodiac, and they passed it on to the later races before their civilization fell? Yes. |
| HK-47 II05-07-07, 01:46 PM | Winners... Vote 14: Human Flavor A)Humans are similar to the way they are in the PHB Vote 15: Nezumi Flavor D) Nezumi come from (tainted continent) where they are the successors to (ancient civilization) that was run by (ancient race of good) that caused (massive disaster) Vote 16: Hengeyokai Flavor H) Hengeyokai were a Magical Experiment I) Hengeyokai were a race of spirits or gods that were forced to become mortals Vote 17: Elf Flavor K) Elves come from (desert continent) where they worship the spirits of the land You may be wondering why Hengeyokai has two winners... well, I combined them, they were spirits forced to become mortals after magical experiments... Also, technically there was a tie for Nezumi but I didn't want a tie breaker so I'm declaring a winner anyway... Vote 18: (ancient race of good) A) Lizardfolk B) An (native) Outsider race C) A custom race D) Illithids (before they were evil) Vote 19: (massive disaster) E) The Murder of a god to gain a reusable magical and scientific energy source created the taint F) The Assasination of a powerful outsider for profit caused the destruction of a continent G) The Ressurection of a powerful evil nearly brings about the end of the world I vote A and E |
| Dracomortis05-07-07, 03:40 PM | D and G. Mind flayers resurrect their ancient god, whom they believe to be good, only to find out it is the vilest creature to have ever existed. 'flayers become utterly evil as the world is nearly destroyed. |
| Return of the Flumph05-07-07, 03:45 PM | D and G. Evil god turned the flayers into parasites in addition to ruining the planet in general. The tainted continent is where he awoke. |
| Araes05-07-07, 04:44 PM | D and G Cthulhu, nothing more need be said. |

| HK-47 II05-08-07, 01:25 PM | We voted on continents, most of which had names, but since most are combos we have to come up with new ones |

| HK-47 II05-09-07, 12:36 PM | http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z20/T_D_S/GuaiBase.jpg Vote 27: Guai See that pic? That's the Tainted continent... bright green is forest, red is mountains, green-grey is tainted areas, and yellow is beach. in this vote you decide whether you prefer, as a political map, A... http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z20/T_D_S/GuaiPol1.jpg or B... http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z20/T_D_S/GuaiPol3.jpg next we'll decide what those countries are... oh, and I vote B... |
| Araes05-09-07, 02:52 PM | C) Other, one where people don't claim the tainted area and live shoreline only. |
| HK-47 II05-09-07, 03:11 PM | Nezumi, (and perhaps Taintborn?), are immune to taint.... |
| Dracomortis05-09-07, 03:33 PM | I'm going to vote A. Whatever our "tainted" race becomes should probably occupy the green area (as the one with the most tainted lands), with nezumi claiming the black area. The other two could possibly be reduced in size so they only exist outside the taint. |
| die05-09-07, 06:04 PM | I'm going with A as well |
| turalisj05-09-07, 06:14 PM | I guess I'll go with A.... I'd rather not see a place where the entire continent is tainted, save the shoreline where it would be hard to build an empire due to storms. |
| HK-47 II05-10-07, 06:12 PM | I'm working on the Tainborn templates (2 of them, I'll post both and we'll vote), and would like your input on what to include... Also, we should discuss a name for this world... |
| turalisj05-10-07, 06:34 PM | There are templates in Heroes of Horror that might help. Such as Tainted Minion, Tainted Raver, and Unholy Scion. |
| HK-47 II05-10-07, 06:37 PM | Unfortunately I don't have Heroes of Horror, I got my taint rules from Oriental Adventures... |
| HK-47 II05-12-07, 01:31 PM | Remember, these are Works in Progress Taintborn Template A +2 Str -2 Con +2 Int -2 Cha Taint Immunity Taintblooded: character level as taint score Detect Taint at will +1 LA Taintborn Template B +2 Dex -2 Con +2 Int -2 Cha Taintblooded: character level as taint score Detect Taint at will +1 LA C) Other |
| Araes05-13-07, 12:52 AM | Why doesn't Template B have taint immunity? Either way though, I'll go with A. |
| turalisj05-13-07, 01:59 AM | I say all three..... a) Those who's strength have been boosted by taint. b) Those who's agility have been boosted. and c) Those who have one of the three templates from HoH (tainted minion, tainted ravager, and unholy scion) This is the kind of world that screams Heroes of Horror and Antihero. |
| HK-47 II05-13-07, 10:15 AM | Why doesn't Template B have taint immunity? Either way though, I'll go with A. Because I wanted to give the possibility of a non-taint-immune taintborn, and otherwise they'd pretty much be the same template... |
| Dracomortis05-13-07, 10:49 AM | Here's a possible option C. Taintborn Template C +2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha. The presence of taint in the creature's body makes it physically more powerful but clouds its perception. Immunity to Taint (Ex): Because a taintborn is naturally fueled by the taint, its body is unaffected by the negative effects it normally has. A taintborn can still gain taint points as usual. Taintblooded (Ex): A taintborn creature has a taint score equal to its Hit Dice or its character level, whichever is higher. Spell-like Abilities: At will - detect taint. Challenge Rating: +1. Alignment: Always evil (any) Level Adjustment: +1. |
| Araes05-13-07, 01:21 PM | Well, for both the Taintborn B, and the suggested C, they are out of balance with A. If you're going to use those options, then they need to have something that: Balances out the loss of Taint Immunity for B. Balances out the increased physical stats and SLA for the suggested C. |
| HK-47 II05-13-07, 01:53 PM | What about some level of Damage resistance (DR #/Honorable or Holy)? |
| Araes05-13-07, 04:00 PM | Maybe, although DR tends to be a pretty strong ability that can get out of hand fast. For LA +1 you'd be talking about almost no DR. Also, the SLA for detect taint would be good for everybody, but might fit well for the dex template. |
| Dracomortis05-13-07, 05:22 PM | Sorry guys, I wasn't thinking when I posted that. The ability modifiers should be as follows: +2 Str, +2 Con, -4 Wis, -4 Cha. |
| HK-47 II05-13-07, 09:16 PM | Maybe, although DR tends to be a pretty strong ability that can get out of hand fast. For LA +1 you'd be talking about almost no DR. Also, the SLA for detect taint would be good for everybody, but might fit well for the dex template. Both A and B already Have Detect Taint as a spell like ability, I just forgot to label it as such... |
| HK-47 II05-15-07, 12:32 PM | The winner of the Guai Political Map Was A so.... What order should the races be common on Guai? A) Taintborn Humans B) Nezumi C) Taintborn Hengeyokai D) Taintborn Elves E) Other My Vote B-A-C-D-E |
| Dracomortis05-15-07, 03:32 PM | B, C, A, D, E. Nezumi all the way! |
| die05-15-07, 09:54 PM | B, C, A, E, D All bow before the mighty nezumi  |
| HK-47 II05-23-07, 03:29 PM | the population order is: Nezumi, Taintborn Hengeyokai, Taintborn Humans, Taintborn Elves, Other Sorry, for taking so long, but I needed to figure out a vote that had to do with Guai, I failed.... instead this one has to do with the world in general. Vote 30: The strength of the 4th wall A) As Normal B) The people of the world know about levels (which they call Gradients) and view them as the way of the world C) The people of the world know about classes (though they may not be correct) and view them as the way of the world D) The people of the world know about classes (though they may not be correct) and Levels (which they call Gradients) and view them as the way of the world E) The people of the world know about classes, levels, and other metagame concepts but view them as the way of the world F) there is barely a 4th wall (like Order of the Stick) G) there is NO fourth wall, they know they are a game and who there players are etc. I vote D, |
| Dracomortis05-23-07, 03:34 PM | I vote D as well. It never made sense to me that they would never realize that some people have very similar if not the exact same talents and apply a name to that group of people (i.e. a class name), even if they didn't understand levels. Additionally, they would realize that people were staying at more or less the same power level for periods of time and then unlocking new abilities (i.e. leveling up), even if they did not necessarily understand why or how. |
| turalisj05-23-07, 05:25 PM | I vote D for a serious game, and F for a game that you want to just screw around in. |
| Araes05-23-07, 07:45 PM | I think I would be primarily voting for C, but I wouldn't be opposed to D. The direct knowledge of levels just seems a little too metagame for serious D&D. |
| HK-47 II05-23-07, 07:57 PM | The way I was thinking, it wasn't really, 'direct' more like "People grow in power as they gain experience" which amounts to what levels are... perhaps they don't even know for certain who is what level |
| die05-23-07, 09:50 PM | I vote A but C might work. |
