| rks10-04-07, 04:38 PM | Inspired by a great thread about Joe Wood (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=763260) I asked a couple of the players in the gaming group about playing commoners in pre-game waiting. Three has made characters so far and one session, with one of them has been played. I used a small village called Geml in Breland of the Eberron campaign setting. The village is a rather smallish one (about 150 persons) in a rural area. The chars are young for their race (equal to 15 human years or so) and have grown up in Geml, being children to farmers etc. The first character: Calith (Cal) Breson Calith is 15 years old and living a very simple life with his father Bre, mother Dora and the three bigger brothers Barius, Darko and Sargos. He is of course the constant scapegoat of the different litte evils the brothers put him through. Cal dreams about finding his own farm, or rather a ranch! He is natural with animals of all kinds. Someone to love would be good too, but he'll settle for being a stable boy at this stage. As a person, Cal is calm and focused, he know that he at the moment is stuck in life and he is constantly trying to get out of the loop his life is to be able to achieve his dream. Cal is the only one who has a good hand with Rosa. After getting some breakfast to go from his lovely mother, he went to the pen. Correctly, Rosa had broken through the fence and judging from the tracks she had went for the forest, about 2/3 of a mile away to the east. On his way over there the neighbor girl Flora hollered a hello and asked if they could pick some flowers together. Cal turned her down and went off towards the forest. He could easy follow Rosa's clear tracks and after a short walk he found her, eating grass in a clearing. He approached her and saw that a few meters away something had been dug up from the ground, and quite recently too. It was apparently a burrow of some kind for a smallish animal like a fox or a hare. An area of about three square feet of dirt was freshly dug up and a small inner chamber was still intact. Cal could hear weak noises from the burrow. Without taking notice Cal took Rosa by her halter and was to go towards the village again. Rosa was not interested in that and pulled another way and Cal thought "why not, I could use a walk". Only some twenty steps away he found a grisly scene! Blood splatter and the remains of a recently killed fox. In the dirt he could see tracks from some large animal or beast with big claws... Knowing this Cal returned to the burrow and tried to get out the probable babyfoxes. He wrapped his shirt around his hand to avoid getting bit and pulled four very small foxes out. Aged around some few weeks, they could only yelp and yap against him. He put them in his backpack and brought Rosa firmly by the halter and went towards home. Passing the fields again, Flora was still there and now asked if he not wanted to see something. He didn't want to this time either and went home and tied Rosa to the fence of her pen and went in to his mother. She was happy, him finding meat for dinner! Cal took up a rather hard discussion with her, but could only manage to save one of the puppies. He was sent out to kill and flaw the pups, but talked his brother into it, he still had to repair the fence in Rosa's pen. Ransacking the toolshed, he found what he wanted and went out to find Rosa trying her best to get away from the hard knot he had tied. He repaired the fence and put her in the pen again. He left Rosa munching down some grass, and went inside to his backpack and to get to know the remaining pup - a male one. -- I gave Cal 72 xp, for finding Rosa and bringing her back, for getting food for the family, for saving one of the puppies, for fixing the fence and securing Rosa in the pen. More to come! :-) |
