Based on Terry Brook's Armageddon's children, I'm considering using it for my next campaign.

Earth is under siege. The Word has all but vanished from the world, and the Void has trickled in little by little, slowly but surely contaminating everything we held dear. Water is so ridden with pollutants and salt that nothing can live. The ground is poisoned, as is all that comes out of it. Even the air is painful to breathe, burning with every breath drawn. As is in their nature, however, humans have adapted to even this harsh environment. Living in compounds, made from former landmarks and other such buildings, surviving off of packaged food, and purifying water as they can. Magic has all but left the world, and there are none among the living who can command what is left of it. Some amount of psionics still remains, thanks to high level cybernetics.

Outside of the compounds, only danger awaits mankind. Demons and monsters of the Void are sweeping across the lands, seeking to eventually eradicate mankind. Men desperate to survive have joined the demons, losing all that made them human as they bowed to the whims of their masters. They are become once-men, soulless, merciless, blank-eyed and mad. The perfect slaves, soldiers, and spies.

Even when the demons and their once-men are far away, there are always the Mutants to beware. Also once human, these have been twisted and changed by the poisons and the radiation filling the world. These come in many species, named by the men who have seen them. Croaks, Lizards, Spiders, Moths, and so many more. Some small tribes of normal people live among the rubble of old, scavenging to survive, even moreso than those in the compounds.

Weaponry in this world is limited to fairly archaic means, for although guns exist in fair quantities (though are still typically harder to find than most weapons) ammunition is almost impossible to find outside of military encampments. Most compounds will have one or two fully-loaded weapons for protection, but they are used only in the direst of instances. Technology still exists, and in fact, cybernetic implants and enhancements are far more common than any firearm. Most compounds make a point of having people who can give, maintain, remove and treat all cybernetic modules. Other technology has to be solar powered, since most if not all other methods are largely useless. This means solar powered vehicles, water purifying devices, etc. There is not, however, a great prevelance of any computers or computing devices. The weather is prime for solar powered devices, but poor for living. You are either under a blistering sun or shrouded completely in the blackest of cloud. Rain hasn’t been seen in years, and anything beyond that is simply wishful thinking.

It is a bleak outlook for the human race. More compounds fall daily. Demon armies swarm across the nations, more men die, more become once-men, and a select few become demons. These men display promise beyond any other, both in their willingness to betray their species, and in simple ability. They slowly become more and more like those who employ them, gaining scales and horns, fangs and tails, as fits their personality and purpose.

Only death awaits you here.

Sounds more like d20 modern, imo.

Agreed. It sounds a bit sci-fi for a dnd campaign, even if the weapons being used are supposedly archaic, and the absence of magic is a pretty significant deviation, though I suppose it could be made to work.

If you want to use this sort of setting in a campaign, then you must, must, MUST get the d20 modern or d20 future rulebooks, since they have all kinds of info dealing with that sort of thing.
