I'm going to run an Isle of Dread campaign, but need some ideas. (I don't have access to Dungeon magazine, so I can't get ideas from there.)

I really would recommend getting your hands on some of the recently published material from Dungeon or from Dragon. You could try any stores that deal with gaming. However if it is literally physically impossible then I'm wondering what source material you have at all--it would be easier for me to help you if I knew that.

BTW: I'm also planning on running it at a certain point in my campaign, though not in the immediate future, so I'd be glad to brainstorm ideas with you about it.

I have to agree...You need at least the isle of Dread original Adventure. It had Pirates capturing villagers as Slaves, Zombiemaster of tanaroa Village, The Kopru (an aquatic race who want to be an empire again and have a nifty enchanted statue to convince you do do their bidding somewhere in the tembple of Kopru in the Volcano Caldera), Hunt and capture Dinosaurs for the Wizards of Glantri...Lots of Fun stuff.

I have a subscription to Dragon, and although it has some history and gives some ideas for the Isle of Dread, its all relatively vague, and its great for PC's, but its not as helpful for DM's. Any brainstorming ideas would be great, thanks!

Cheers.

When you say 'old adventure', I think of the old module X1: The Isle of Dread.

While not for 3.X, it provides interesting bits, and may be enough to work with.

An idea I have toyed with involving Isle of Dread requires replacing the city on the plateau with a variation of I1: Dwellers of the Forbidden City, with a modified C2: Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan as the main temple IN the Forbidden City.

All of this would result in Yuan-Ti (or some other snakemen) perhaps purchasing slaves from the pirates (who might be of the Yellow Sails, ala' A1-A4 Slavers series).

Just some ideas.

The Lifeboat
Recommended Location: Anywhere in the Sea of Dread
Description: A ship stumbles across a strange lifeboat in the middle of the ocean.
What’s going on: Another of the Crew of the Oard Survey Ship ejected over the Ocean. The “Lifeboat” is an Entry Impact Capsule from an Oard Ship. Markings on the Capsule translate as “EIC-5”. The Oard is in Hybernation and will revive if brought onboard. The Oard will attempt to hypnotise the Captain and Crew into slavery.
PC Involvement: The PC’s might encounter the Oard controlled ship at sea or coming into the isolated fishing village they are in. If the Oard makes it to a village it will enslave the locals (A PEOPLES REVOLUTION should provide a good suggestion as to what happens next).

Foothold
Recommended Location: Eastern Thanegioth Archipelago
Description: The Forward Section of an Oard Vessel has come down on an Island of Cannibals east of the Isle of Dread.
What’s going on: The Forward part of the Ship has crashed in the Thanegioth Archipelago. The Islanders are being re-educated by the “Sky Gods” through the use of Hypnosis Cubes while the Robots (a dozen Iron Golems) begin mining and construction operations.
PC Involvement: The PC’s might encounter the Oard dismantling their ship section and constructing a base while exploring the region. This event Takes place AC1010, Nuwmont 1. If encountered after AC1020, there is an Oard Dome and Mining Facility just off the Coast.

Twilight of the Twaelar
Recommended Location: Sea of Dread, Near the Thanegioth Archapelago (Sometime after 1020AC).
Description: The Twaelar Empire stops raiding the surface as they come under sway by the Oard.
What’s going on: The Oard at the Thanegioth Foothold Site have begun an invasion of the Twaelar Empire. The Oard have provided the Twaelar ruling class with the gift of Hypnosis Cubes. The Oard are intent on totally assimilating the Twaelar Empire and using its resources to build an underwater mining facility. They will brainwash the Twaelar People into servitude. The Twaelar are provided with an army of Robot Sharks to patrol the Seas above their Empire and iron golems (robots) to construct the mining facility.
PC Involvement: The PC’s might be hired to go on an undersea adventure to investigate why the Twaelar conflict with the Surface has broken off. They might encounter a lone Twaelar fleeing the Empire for help.

All of these can happen near the isle of Dread

Thanks for the ideas. I don't have a credit card, but I might be able to get those using my mom's. I had never thought of that, thanks.

Does anyone know which Dungeon issue the Savage Tides article started in?

Thanks, Cheers!

I believe it is issue 139. You ideally also want Dragon issues 351 and 352. I should add: having the adventures is REALLY helpful but if you just want a few things then issue 143 gives a general layout and along with the Dragon magazines would give you sufficient background to run your own ideas. The adventures flesh out areas of the island however and have a general plotline you might want to use.

The Savage Tide campaign started in Dungeon #139. There was a campaign backdrop article in an earlier issue though. You should be able to find out on the paizo website and it is available for download.

Re ideas for the Isle of Dread. You don't really need too much in the way of published material. In many ways the Isle of Dread is all about the Monster Manual.
It depends on what you want to do with the setting. I mean it's a dinosaur and strange monster infested island right? It was once the home of some ancient civlization (with a Mesoamerican flavour) and is now inhabited by a few tribesemen descendants of those people.
For ideas and inspiration think of stuff like Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Carribean, Jurassic Park and of course King Kong (dinosaurs, giant insects and apes oh my!)
Classic hooks include a map leading to the ruins of the dead empire, dinosaur hunting, or there's always the shipwreck. That said as a DM I've never had too much of a problem in convincing a group of players to mount an expedition into unknown lands.

I'm planning somewhat ultimately to link the Isle of Dread to Maztica too, though I don't like the old adventures that came out with it. I like the idea of it though. One of my ideas is that the ancient world had a conflict between the Yuan-Ti Empire and a Mesoamerican type Empire with the result that both kind of shorted one another out.

I had something like that planned out also, but instead of Yuan-Ti, it was lizard folk. The Lizardsfolk won out in the end, but the demons they had allied with to win got out of control and tore a rift in the cosmos, releasing a planar fog that summons more demons. (I tried to tie in all of the current Isle of Dread story lines, aka the demon fog, the few remaining Olman, etc)

The first campaign will be either a lizardfolk raid (cheezy, I know, so don't slam me) or rampaging dino's. I'm hoping to get more elaborate, so any ideas are welcome. Thanks!
