| VampyresThrenody04-07-08, 11:32 AM | I'm looking for DMs & Players to help build on this city. I plan on running 2 PbP games through it and currently have about 7-10 people with interest. Assuming at least half of those decide to play once 4E comes around, I'll still need a few more. If you're interested please post here or on the website below. I'd also love to have another DM run a game, even a short one, through this setting. I like collaboration and have actually set the city in another DM's game setting (His forums are here (http://www.freepowerboards.com/newworld/) and his site (http://www.freewebs.com/newworld1/)) On the coastline where two rivers intersect into a bay rests the city of Cabal. It has been built within the ruins of an ancient civilization for one specific purpose: Resources. Discovery of this city ages ago yielded rich iron and gold mines beneath the sewers in addition to magical food warehouses that seem to produce and create sustenance for hundreds. Now this city sits on a minor ocean trade route and sells crafted and raw iron to its neighbors. But merchants rarely go past the port docks and even then fear to tread off their ships. The city is a place filled with danger, for it defines lawlessness. There is no cohesive government in place, rather the city has been divided between numerous factions each vying for control of the food houses and mines. After many years each faction has developed a unique culture that define this city as a cruel and dangerous place. EDIT: I added more factions and city information at my wiki here: http://cabalcity.wetpaint.com/ EDIT: Removed excess info here. Premises for other factions Nobleborn Premise: Claiming heritage traced back to the nobles of the city when it was great, the Nobleborn have the best real estate in the city. They have erected a wooden palisade around the area in order to garner its own defense. They also happen to have territory below the streets where a gold vein was discovered. Chosen of Culedphal; “Ringers” Premise: These crazed cultists worship a seemingly inorganic object floating above the sky in Azellfor. The ring can be reached by a series of stone steps that are slowly falling into ruin. They view all other groups with hostility and as such have little access to goods outside what they can produce. Iron and steel are very rare here. Maribel Premise: This area is an accessway into the feywild and has large trees and vines growing throughout it. The Eladrin have built houses in the branches of trees and along the tops of old houses. The other races dwell in the buildings beneath. They have good relations with some of the factions but are currently at war with Union. Union Premise: An overbearing group that wants to unite the city to its former splendor. They successful joined several small factions many years ago and have been trying to do the same in recent times with no success. Bats Premise: Xenophobic group dwelling in a clock tower. R.O.T (No idea what it will stand for) Premise: Orcs dwelling in a small fortress in island on one river. Hand of Bone Premise: Goblinoids worshipping dead ancestors Silver Wolves Premise:A vicious tribe that is at war with all its neighbors. They wish to maintain their own unity but want to expand their territory. While they are vicious and tribal, they are not overtly cruel. When given the choice to grant mercy to the foe they often take that route as long as it does not impede their chances of victory. The Underforge {boring name, trying to think of better one} Premise: The miners and the makers. This faction may be small but they have a large militant force and can hold their territory against Union excursions. They trade raw iron, gold, copper, silver and other metals in addition to excellent arms and armour through the Savuy traders. The Blooddrinkers Premise: : Seeing themselves as the children of demon princes, this tiefling faction believes that it is supreme to all others. They want to create dominion over all the other factions and make their race reign as kings. Other tieflings often view them with disdain. They practice demon worship. Okay so, all the names are up for change except for the Children of the Storm, which I really like. I need some more factions though! Or ideas to change the ones I have. Please help out here! I'll use this thread to update with more information as I get more. |
| Admiral_Lourve04-07-08, 02:51 PM | Looks neat! My main problem with it is the Factions seem to be too defined by race, whats the point of different political groups if they can't get new followers? It also makes it harder to run a game where everyone is from the same Faction, which I'm sure people will do. Some ideas: Children of the Storm: While most often elven, a powerful half-elven sorcerer has gathered a crew of half-elves and magically adept people and forced his way into the tribe. Basicly, consider me a elf or I won't be, and thats much worse for you. R.O.T: Originally a bunch of orc savages, one famous leader claimed that the strong should rule, but disgarded race. Anyone that can prove themselves can become a member. Savage humans, gobins, hobgoblins ect. make up most of R.O.T., but its also home to outcast half-breed and even exiled nobles, like elves and dwarves, that fell into the gang and got used to it. The Underforge: Small but with great force? That says to me technology. Get rid of the dwarf conotation, make it a earthy group. Goblin, kobold, dwarf, gnome, drow. They mix weaponry with magic, they invented cannons, masterwork catapults and their home is full of traps. |
| VampyresThrenody04-07-08, 06:11 PM | Good point on the racial bit. I like the ideas you had for...well all of it really! I like the idea of R.O.T (or whatever I end up calling them although I thought it would be entertaining to nickname someone Rotters) as focused on strength. The bit about magical adepts for the Storm tribe is good, but I may modify it to perhaps an Eladrin or human whose ability with a boat and building skills were simply so valuable that he could not be turned down. That and he showed up at the head of a crew of pirates. So we have elven tribals next to various race pirates that have eventually adjusted to the culture. I'll have to pass the bit regarding technology with the other DMs in the game but I really like the idea of someone having limited access to gunpowder in the form of simple cannons. Will make the other changes regarding the Underforge also. Thanks for all the help! I hope I can get more. |
