Campaign Setting Concept: a Cubic Earth [Archive] - Wizards Community

Okay, so here's this idea I had for a campaign world.

Imagine that the setting is a cube with four sides, as well as (of course) the top and bottom. As time passes, each side of the cube experiences a different day and night cycle simultaneously, because each side of the cube is rotating in a different direction. Moving from one side of the cube to another can only be done when you are at one of the corners of your side (meaning at midnight, dawn, noon, or dusk).

Not everyone in this setting would know about the world's cubic nature. Indeed, one of the chief concerns in this world is resource depletion of each side of the cube; without frequent trade between sides, each side will eventually run itself out of certain resources, eventually turning to cannibalism to survive.

To further build on the quadrilateral motif, there are five alignments in this setting: Active Positice (AP), Active Negative (AN), Passive Positive (PP), Passive Negative (PN), and Evil Stupid (ES).

As you can see, Stupid Evil is disconnected from the corners of the cube, making it a selfish, disinterested, and petty alignment. This diagram also doubles as a planar cosmology.

Thoughts?

looks interesting

I imagine a map would look something like this?

How would an ocean or sea work that ends at the end of an edge?

Didn't the old spelljammer system mention cubic worlds? You could check at Spelljammer.org?

If the world were "flat" then you'd be able to sail off (over) the edge....
I imagine a giant waterfall. One ocean falling into another. Like in PoTC3.
Of course you'd have to decide wich sides fell into wich because you couldn't really have water falling both directions at once.
Well, I guess you could, due to magic,....

Of course real physics don't work at all for this.

But imagine the players reaction upon reaching the end of the world.
Be it either facing the prospect of going over the "edge" or simply coming up on a collosal waterfall rising above them. Each as wide as the horizon....
