In the wood items aisle, they have nice spools (pack 12) perfect for pillars,support for bridges or to put flying creatures on ($2 a pack). That same aisle for the same price they have packs of little wood tiles perfect a variety of uses (Bridges,Walls,etc). Need to create a bridge? Use the spools as support beams and place the tiles on them. The same effect can be used to create a multi level building with where to show where your minis are on the 1st/2/3d lvl. Also in Walmarts hobby section I picked up some rubber mats, took nickels and drew circles around them to show trees/water/rubble as they came in different colors and fit perfectly on my grid maps. I also like those dollar stores. They have cheap rubbermaid junk/desk organizers that when flipped over create nice walls/eleveations to put minis on. Need a cheap gigantic snake or other creature? Check the toy section. I used a $1 rubber snake to complete a yuanti temple as the local god they worshipped. I also shamelessly ripped off ideas from the movie "Anaconda". Turned out the Jay Lo NPC the guys were drooling over was a 1/2 yuanti looking for sacrifices. Lastly, hit those womens hobby shops for smooth stones,rubble and packs of sea shells. All cheap and great visual aids.
1 ton ghost 08-14-07, 03:56 PM	how progressive and innovative of you. i am big on minis. comes w/ the degree in Fine Arts so i never buy the plastic ones. numbered tiles work best for many monstrous humanoids or low HD monsters ala lots'o skeletons/orcs/goblins, etc. we'll cannibalize other games too. a friend had some ruins from warhammer that fit nicely on 1" grids. legos linkin'logs someone recommended aquarium pieces
