Thinking about the cosmic struggle between Coke and Pepsi, I was thinking that a world dominated by the Cola Wars would make an intriguing campaign setting.

I picture that by the time the campaign takes place, the Cola Wars have been going on for countless centuries. The world consists of bleak, blasted landscapes interspersed with heavily fortified castles and battlements. Everything that might be of value is immediately requisition by whichever cola company controls the area. No one even imagines peace anymore -- only of forcing the enemy's front lines back by a few feet, of holding some strategically important hill against an enemy's unending assault.

Cola allegience would, for all intents and purposes, replace alignment as the chief determinant of character. There are three allegiences: Coca-Cola, Neutral, and Pepsi. Pepsi loyalists and Coca-Cola loyalists in this world generally attempt to kill each other on sight, so it is not recommended that PCs by of mixed-cola parties. Neutrals face a somewhat different position -- in the strongholds of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, neutrality is often considered tantamount to desertion, cowardice, or even treason, but individual Coca-Cola or Pepsi loyalists can work with neutrals on an ad-hoc basis, although those in the military (as almost all able-bodied young people are) generally keep such things quiet with regards to their superiors.

Although the grim, endless efforts of survival and war form the backbone of a Cola Wars campaign, PC objectives can go far beyond this. For parties aligned with one of the colas, seeking to expand the consumer base of their cola beyond the boundaries of the blasted world from which they come could be part of a campaign. Are the Far Realms a good market for soft drinks? Might the extra revenue from selling on other planes provide "our boys" with the needed funds to finally crush the opposing scum?

For neutrals, survival and escape are obvious priorities -- perhaps to leave this blasted world and find another, and, in the shorter turn, blend in among the cola loyalists, or survive in small bands in the blasted no-man's lands avoiding patrols from both sides. Exceptionally ambitious neutrals might seek an end to the war, but this is likely beyond the power of mortal -- or perhaps even divine -- capacity.

Call the main BBEGs 'Sprite' the fey thief, 'Fanta' the bard and 'Dr. Pepper' the Necromancer.

If PCs need help, they can always ask old man mountain dew.
