I'd like to add a couple of towns/villages between major cities. How do y'all come up with what kind of buildings are in the towns? I mean, at what point do certain businesses show up in a community? Would there be a magic shop in a small town? My guess is no. Other than inns, taverns, blacksmiths (to name a few), what other businesses would you find in communities of different sizes? What businesses are always found in your communities? Just wondering about the process of how other DMs create their towns/villages/etc. |

It covers this question quite well. Its also completely free to download as its a promo piece for thier larger work. In addition, the other standard response for this is Medieval Demographics Made Easy (medieval demographics made easy)which covers this without the magical shops and such in Magical Medieval City Guide. These aren't hard and fast rules, but they should give you some guidelines. In addition, the Build a City Thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=837285) is covering this topic right now in an interactive manner. |
