| Nerra5707-25-07, 11:22 PM | I am going to be running a campaign and I would like your help with it. My Pcs are going to be villagers in a Thorp located in scenic... Dalmosh's Gullet (MMV) This is all they have ever known; they don't even know the material plane exists! So imagine how they will feel when a planar wind picks them up and drops them into a bustling city on the material plane! After a bit of re-adjustment (No more digging through piles of innards looking for something edible) they will encounter some Thoon encounters and eventually capture and interrogate the one Thoon Disciple (Also MMV) who knows what Thoon truly is. Here is my story for Thoon: The Elder ones (Lovecraftian godlike beings from the previous multiverse) created the Mind Flayers and Aboleths, But who created them? THOON DID SILLY MORTAL!!! (Imagine that in a Scary Mind Flayer Voice.) As it turns out Thoon is from the very first incarnation of the multiverse. A Being strong enough to have survived the millions of apocalypses and to have Dominated the Far Realm. Well that is my campaign Idea. Here comes the Problem: My players are Jaded. They have all the books I have and therefore can't be surprised except by homebrew stuff. My only advantage is the MMV, my players have yet to aquire it But I Have a limited window in which to surprise them. Here's where you guys come in, I need you to help organize this campaign before the window closes and they aquire the book. I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE |

| Zousha_Omenohu07-26-07, 08:48 AM | Why exactly are the players jaded from buying all the books? I know if I were in this campaign, I'd be more than willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of an interesting story. |
| Electricbee07-26-07, 03:15 PM | If you you're characters know the monster books inside and out, you don't have to hombrew everything to make the monsters new and scarey, you can just 'reskin' existing monsters as well. I had my PCs encounter a race of humanoids that resembled barnacle incrusted crab like humanoids with squirming writhing disgusting worminess in the barnacle like growths clustered on their skin. Statistically they were troglodytes, but to look at them they were very different and required a totally different approach from the PCs because they could not see a beastie and assume they new what it was, what its threat level was, and appropriate tactics. Other options is tweaking standard monsters, either with advanced HD or class levels. This can be execially effective when you don't provide other clues that the kobolds are more than they appear. (until the kobold warlocks start shooting beams of baleful green fire from their eyes ... eldritch blast can look like whatever you want it to) Finally, scratchbuilt monsters that have a passing resemblance to somthing obscure from any monster source further heighten tensions by convincing PCs to act on metagame knowledge that is incorrect. Hope it helps. |

What do you generally have in mind for when they get there? If you Lived your Life on an endless feild where the ground was made of innards, would you recognize a city? |

My players are in no way professional on seven seperate occasions games have descended into giggling and fart jokes... for half an hour. |
