I've been DM'ing my first campaign ever for a little while now and I'm having trouble getting to the story where I originally wanted to go. My players started off at level 1 as 12 year olds. Since I felt and heared that characters only really started to get fun at level 5, I time hopped the start of the campaign. I made my players make a fifth level character, at session one I gave them a first level character of 12, session 2 a 14yo lvl2, session 3 a 16 year old level 4 and the next week their original character sheets. I hope to get them to level 20 and when they get there give them a truly grand finale. There's only 3 of us in our group, so we're playing gestalt. He's a ranger/barbarian/... "that prc that gives extra animal companions" and she's a wizard/monk/drunken master. My original ending would be for the BBEG to try to ascend to godhood through deicide. This would be arranged by lack of worship and/or the activities of a deity's portfolio. We're playing in a Celtic setting, but I couldn't resist to put Thor in anyway. (Because .. he's Thor.) Anyway, when they were 14, the emperor decreed that the various temples throughout the land would not be receiving any more governmental funding and they were now due tax duty. (The players saved the temple/orphanage by a reenactment of The Goonies.) But I haven't been able to think of any further consequences yet. I've thought of a nice underwater temple to Manannan Mac Lyr that got sold of to a dwarven entrepreneur that turned it into a luxury hotel(, where of course something bad has to happen for the characters to set straight). But that's about it. I haven't even figured out yet which god to "slay". It should be one whose domain/portfolio is "easily" nullified I guess. ...Hmmmm, prohibition and the Greek Lazarus come to mind ... Two NPC's of note: Pancho: Their beloved bard/cleric of Braghi, with INT 6. He's like a Mexican Forest Gump/Fonzy. Last campaign was set in barbarian territory and Pancho parted from the party to set up a temple. (Which was an immediate hit.) Timothy: A wizard/rogue and a calculated bastard. Just to mess with my players' heads really. But has some great BBEG potential. Plus I get to practice being an ******* :D So basically: How do you weaken a worship/portofolio dependent deity enough to steal it's divine spark and get away with it? |
