queenfange 05-20-07, 08:19 PM	I've made the outline of a pantheon for a race of personable and beautiful but simple humanoids (+2 Cha, -2 Int). They are essentially hedonists, and have skin in several different pastel shades (each subrace believes its skin tone in the best). So, below are the deities I have right now. I don't really want to add any more (though if you have a great idea for one, do post it), but I'd like to flesh them out. What do their clerics wear? What's their holy symbol? Personality? Holy days? Rituals? Origins? What signifigance do they have to other races or adventuring parties? Any help is appreciated. armeniantwins 05-20-07, 09:23 PM	Well, you seem to have things figured out. Using the info you already gave, you should be able to fairly easily develope Holy Symbols and appropriately ecclesiastical robes for you deities.
GoriceXII 05-21-07, 04:24 AM	Offhand I would say: 1. Flowers and vines, perhaps clad in them as the images of the deity. The clerics might wear robes or tunics that imitate this in their patterns. 2. Feathered headresses of some kind or perhaps capes as well as musical instruments. I have this image of processions of musicians, and people making gestures to symbolize recognition of the holiness of the music. Perhaps the main rites are dances and hymns. 3. Main rites might be almost like magic shows but ones that are perhaps demonstrations or performances like mystery plays. Festivals might involve a lack of inhibition, not so much lewd as in the sense of a kind of Saturnalia where normal virtues are reversed for a day or two, where pranks are played and the proud display humility while perhaps some fool or beggar is made king for a day. Masks and elaborate costumes might mark the priesthood. 4. Public games, feats of athleticism would mark these rites perhaps? I see a somewhat Greek approach where the human body is admired and where priests and priestesses dress to show off impressive physiques in short tunics that display handsomely sculpted muscular limbs. Golden discs are the holy symbols. Rites are often held on the top of temple platforms--perhaps wrestling or racing at the height of day is a mark of worship. 5. A somewhat rustic priesthood perhaps, wearing a more ceremonial version of peasant clothes, colored on the breast to mark the changes of seasons, a color for each. (like say white, orange, green, brown) Sickles as holy symbols. Rites are often rhythmic soothing chants. 6. I'm picturing temples of bluish green stone, stained glass to make patterns of light. Most often located by rivers, lakes, ocean shores. Hoods and cowls worn by the clergy. Associated with mourning, funerals and with travel over water--perhaps the very concept of water travel is fraught with concern and sorrow? Or perhaps the image of death's parting is travelling over waters. Coffins resemble boats or barges and items for a final journey are placed in them by the grieving. 7. What comes to mind here is 'necessary evils'. These might well be a rich clergy, almost like princes, who are believed necessary for everyday commerce in law and property. Something like modern day lawyers and a conspiracy theorists view of the masons blended together--they're everywhere. You may not like them but you have to deal with them. Any major agreement or transaction requires them. Anti slavery people might encounter their adherents accusing them of impiety and dangerous blasphemy. They run colleges and universities, they are often the tutors of nobles or people of influence. No one can deny that they are learned and clever--surely they must be right! I would also add of these clerics that they probably also run certain important charities such as orphanages or public hostels. They are often apologists for public institutions that might be considered questionable but which they insist are necessary for the betterment of society. Because the deity is female I picture them male and female sporting clean shaven faces and long hair stylishly coiffed. 8. I picture this as a rebel god--he is perhaps not accepted by regular folk on an everyday basis but might well be prayed to in out of the way shrines by those seeking vengeance or redress for injustice. It is not a safe thing to do--the rites can be violent and self destructive, it is said that devotees cut and whip themselves at times, that their rites can send them into maenad like charges across the countryside. The priests often seem like crazy people, with symbols of vengeance and madness and justice tattooed on their hands and faces, wearing robes that have long strips that are supposed to be prayers sewn on them. It may even be rumored that they harbour a secret cult of assassins...
