Summary: What would be an appropriate campaign challenge for a party of characters of 21st level all with divine rank 0/1?

Sometimes it's fun to high the high end of the power scale and play with world-altering forces. To that end, I've begun planning a DVR 0 or 1 campaign for a party of 6-8 in which some terrible situation neccesitates divine intervention. The chosen medium for this intervention is a party of experienced adventurers suddenly elevated to divine status.

I have several questions:

1. Is there any existing campaign material for epic/divine challenges which I could use, adapt, and my my own?

2. As odd as it may seem, I'd like to limit the cheese factor while allowing creativity. Is that even possible with an epic level campaign? Note: I'm not saying I want to limit power, only cheese like infinite damage combos and such.

3. What do you think an appropriate challenge for 7/8 demigods would be?

I'm thinking that I will let them start at 21 so they all qualify right away for epic level feats and abilities, and could have 1 level in an epic class if they went with a full 20 of a base class. Each will recieve DVR 0 with a quest at the beginning which will, at the end, grant DVR 1 and, through some action or inaction on their part, kick off the apocalypse. I need to choose the specific apocalypse with which to afflict my world, and how to go about the whole thing.

Its ambitious, but I want this to be fun and what's more fun that playing with world-altering abilities?

Thoughts?

I don't know much about using epic characters (I prefer low-level ones for some crazy reason), but there are two sample adventures in the Epic Level Handbook. Have you looked at those? The book also has a list of 100 sample epic plot hooks; you could probably locate a few useful ones.

Are you looking for a "beat the crap out of stuff" campaign, a "negotiation and awesome diplomacy" game, or something in between? If your characters are essentially very minor deities, perhaps they are sent as emissaries of the deities to talk to powerful spellcasters, emperors, or similar whom the deities have some issue with or interest in. Of course, to insert combat, a mortal who hates their particular faction of deities or another weak deity (one of the evil variety) could try to eliminate the PCs or undermine their mission by killing off the mortals they are supposed to be visiting (perhaps framing the PCs).

Maybe each one is a patron god of a city-state and only has divine powers within 1 mile per 100 worshippers of their main temple. And a great conquerer is bashing down the walls of surrounding city-states forming an empire and the PCs area is next on the menu.

Maybe taking care of the folks in your city attracts refugees from conquered places because they know he is a cool god and your power grows. Or maybe they gain power by feeding on souls of those slain in your name
