| jakelslang2107-10-07, 02:31 PM | Hey everyone. I was playing Doom3 for a while and thought of a good campaign for my friend to run (He has like 5 current sessions and wants to make a new one. He relies on me to make his campaigns. His name is Mechanusgear0 if you want to ask him anything). For all you that play Doom3 you'll probabaly know what I'm talking about. Anyways it involves a 3rd level party who are holy mercenaries that work for Pelor. The local landlord who owns an enormous amount of land (about 8 miles) hired them and asks them to check the campus for any hauntings since a figure constantly lurks the streets at night and serfs have gone missing. The lord gives them a guide of his mansion and lets them check the manor for any strange things. He does not tell them his ancestor was a necromancer who made manor area to create undead since there is a large supply of bodies in a graveyard in the woods who made a contract with Orcus who then killed him. Later on in the campaign the PCs are summoned to the main room where there is blood splattered across the walls with various words written in blood are also visible. The lord soon shows them a trapdoor which leads to an ancient cave where a mob of zombies attack them and drag the lord into the cave walls. The adventurers can either go deeper into the cave and eventually reach an intelligent spellbook that summoned a demon which is wreaking havoc on the manor and is trying to ressurect the necromancer. When the demon shows itself it chases them out of the cave and now they have to escape the campus, fighting undead and weak demons and getting scared by the landscaping on their way out where they will gain levels and kill the demon which has 2 levels in wizard specializing in necromancy spells. Then when it dies they are rewarded by the Church of Pelor and blah blah blah... Ok heres the rather cliche story and what I need help with. -I need a homebrew or already made demon or similar fiend that can raise dead and has a 'horror' feel to it. -I need some critique on the campaign in general. - I need names and books of where I can find suitable undead (I found some stuff in LM) Well there ya go. Help is appreciated greatly! |

| LEgeND_LoST07-11-07, 02:00 PM | The Book of Vile Darkness is most definitely the book for you, that has PLENTY of creepy nonsense. I like your story, but I guess I'll point out a couple things that don't make sense for me. 1.) Why would a demon want to resurrect a dead necromancer? Will this necromancer do something for him? Perhaps give him access to an undead army, maybe since the demon's been exiled or something. Demons are powerful, and don't really need humans generally in my experience. I'd work on the "why" here. 2.) Zombies are not intelligent creatures, they can only follow very simple commands. I doubt their capable of capturing an individual unless they plan to eat his face off. But again, I'm still fairly new at this. Also be careful about railroading the PC's. I would make the mansion, and the grounds, design and map them. Then let the players figure out where the best exit is or how to achieve their goals. Overall though, awesome campaign idea, could be a lot of fun for the party. Have you checked the DMing thread made by Oakspar? It's a great thread and details his zombie-halloween campaign, which was quite well done. I'd reccommed glancing through it at least, he has the zombie stats written down as well. Good luck. |
| jakelslang2107-12-07, 12:54 PM | Oh goodie I have that book. I'll be sure to look into that. For your questions... 1) The demon is a servant of Orcus who is trying to bring back the necromancer as a complete lich which the necormancer wanted but Orcus thought it would be fun and more conveniant if he killed the man and made it act like a betrayal since a ritual would be to hard for a demon lord to book. Orcus did keep his word but only because it would spread death and evil. 2)The campaign is based off of Doom3 which were basically possessed humans who became zombies. But now I'm leaning over to a weaker Wrackspawn and just make it look human since it is perfect for this. Well they ca run out of the manor screaming or basically anything they want. They could loot bodies, burn houses, or kill humans that are suffering from possesion since all that can benefit the quest. I was just stating the typical thing they would do but that isn't at all the only thing they can do. Ok cool I'll check out that thread. Thanks. |
