Just looking for some ideas about this theme. I have a starting point and the whole baby levels (running monster classes for dragon using random table for type). But like to think ahead. Also looking for a price list for core races with 0LA and no HD if anyone wants to help. I'm giving them 1d6 commoners and one guard(stat straight from the MM). Using them as slaves not hirelings so the hireling table books won't help much.

Also tip and tricks you use when playing them. Type of lairs, best builds, fav feat picks, and the like will be welcome.

Thank people in advance.

Dragons in the underdark would have to be overlords for the simple reason that powerful dragons get huge, while the underdark is by it's very nature mostly a system of narrow cracks and drains in the ground. There are some big caves and also a number of passages to allow a big dragon to use it, but in the End, most places will be bared to the dragons themselves. So if they are to be the lords of the Underdark, they need large numbers of small servants or soldiers who ensure their rule where the draconic lords can't go themsleves.
Most types of dragons have shape-changing abilities or at least are able to chose sorcerer spells to transform them, so they still had some degree of mobility, but I think most dragons would prefer to stay in dragon shape most of the time. Younger dragons make excelent lieutenants because they are smaller and can easily go to many places the big ones can't.

while I see your point some but only a few dragon start as medium. Most start as tiny and small. Most are atleast large at adult. I'm going patrols of younger dragons in the smaller area. They used magic to form the main city/lair. Going with a more civilized dragon empire. So large army of the lessers/2 legs won't be a problem. Also put bandit groups and a hided empire for when we become adults. But that is epic levels so we have a while. Mostly going for training like solders for us like a dragon national guard. Adding ranks for different types like assassins and the like. This setup should put some roleplaying and maybe a few advens about politics. Mostly fighting at first.

Hey, any ideas on train activaties for XP and rewards. Doing the course where the have to get through it like climb walls, swim under things, and a monster fight at the end. Also planning a raid type of the as train but have not decide what the thing is. Might just say rare ore from a opposing squad. Not including not all dragons get along.

Side note: I do have the underdark book but don't play FR world. You can point out ideas from there to if I missed them. Making the main city in an old large cavern near one of the underlakes.

Revined: is the name of the main city.
950 dragons
27,075 2 leg pop
271 solders
1,354 training militia

humans 10,017
halfling 5,415
elf 4,874
dwarf 2,707
gnome 1,895
half elf 1,354
others 813

Thinking of changing some of the races but not sure yet so I'll leave like this for now. City is huge raft in the shape of a eye with the lake in the middle part. But not filling the whole middle part but most. Also the top rock are enchanted to produce light so it looks like redish sunlight in the cavarn.

Are the humanoids captured slaves? Otherwise I think it's rather unlikely to find such an extremely mixed population in such a remote place.

They have been enslaved for generations upon generations. So new slaves are rare but happens. Most are treated very well and some dragon like gold and silvers even free theirs. Most of the slaves think of it now as their duty to the dragons. But not all. That leaves room for story plots. Plus this is just like a main captial city. They have trades open to the surface and some of the free underdark groups even trade with them. I'm going for the old dragon council type of play.

OK I'm going to scale the obstacle course for the different CR. But I need help to determine the right DC for the things. I need to know how far to make them swim under water, climb walls, and plus I need a third way. Was thinking of break through a door or something made of different stuff. And then I fight at the end. I'll give a total XP for the end and some money like 5 gold time the CR of the challenge. Any ideas.

This is what I have for the course.

The Knight's run

1st: Under water passage
length- 510'

CR1 DC10
CR2 DC15 and a two way folk which one dead ends.
CR3 DC20 and a 3 way dead end.

2nd: Climb to the battle area.

CR1 DC5 75'
CR2 DC10 105'
CR3 DC15 155'

3rd: Random battle:

CR matches level but most likely I'll use bandits who have been caught stealing eggs or killing dragons. I'll put them on my list and then make changes if it needs it.

Made a feeding cave for the baby dragons. This gives us something to do and I made it where if you get to the end and bring back a medal then you get to join the Razerguard. (The dragon special forces) I'm using the ghostly lair map for it. Each area has a switch which is hidden. Sorry, I not posting the DC. and doing a random encounter in each room.

I have dire rats, fiendish dire rat (as on of the rare encounters), small monstrous centipede and medium as rare. I also have the main bad guy taking up a lair in here where the hole is on the map. It is our brother a red dragon that has gone rogue. The Dragon Councilmen have also been putting low level bandits in here to give the young dragon some combat experience. The red named Scorch Using the stats from the Dragon book examples for wyrmling. I'm going to upgrade as they grow because this is the main bad guy and I plan to bring in some time later for a story plot.

I'm going to post the councilmen later. Also have a plan on how it works. (which I'll post later.)
