| GAMBLE_d1306-16-07, 03:34 AM | [DISCLIAMER]: When deciding whether this belonged in the Houserules forum or the Campaign Workshop I decided the later, for although it introduces new (house)rules they are designed to allow the readers to build Campaign Specific characters. That said, if for any reason whatsoever the WizO's feel this shoud be moved, go ahead.[/DISCLAIMER] Hey guys, lately I've seen a few threads about DBZ and how to represent various Power Levels... now this thrad isn't here to answer that question, its simply to provide a few rules uses to simulate DBZ-style play. The first is called "LIVEZ". LIVEZ: This new ability is linked to Constitution (ie: 15 Constitution = 15 LIVEZ), and represent the number of times a character can get back up and keep going before finally being beat. Note: Each time a character's HP reaches 0 he is Knocked down (and probably back about 3000 feet too, knowing DBZ), by expending 1 of his LIVEZ he can stand up and rejoin the fight, doing so takes 1 round for the total previously expended LIVEZ. Characters can be killed via a Coup de Gra during this time. Each time a Character expends LIVEZ he gains XP = to half the EL (this represents getting stronger during a fight, and allows a character with a significantly lower Power Level to best an opponent that is his superior by many levels). The Second rule need is Chi or Ki. CHI or KI: This a representation of a Character's inner Strength, it is equal to the character's Charisma Score. These CHI of KI Points are effectively "Super Action Points". Expending a CHI or KI Gives the character a Bonus equal to what he would gain from an Action Point times his Level. So at 1st level the bonus is the same as a Action Point, but a 2nd level you gain twice the benefit. CHI or KI Points can be regained by spending a Fullround action, at the Rate of One CHI/KI Point per Full Round action. This Action Provokes an Attack of Oppertunity, and requires a Concentration check as if the Character was trying to cast a 10th level Spell. So there you have it, a few simple rules to drastically change D&D into DBZ, I suggest playing a Variant Swordsage (both the Monk Variant and the Sorcerer Variant rolled into one) if you want to play a Z Fighter. Suggestions are more than welcome, Flames are too as long as they are funny. Cheers. |
| bigsnarf06-16-07, 02:33 PM | Monks with a few levels of wizard, take alot of fireball spells and fly around.Check out Oriental Adventures for classes and races. And dont forget badguys that can destroy planets. :cloud9: What would you use for flying clouds? |
| Delfedd06-16-07, 02:37 PM | I would just remake the warlock/monk gestalt. The warlock simulates the kamehamiwhatever and can shoot energy. The unarmed attacks of a monk assist. Also, warlocks gain the ability to fly. |
| Darth Sephiroth06-16-07, 02:43 PM | Most of the DBZ characters seem to epic gestault characters (Chaos Monk/Barbarian) with the ki blast feats and several feats based around granting fly or the like. |
| GAMBLE_d1306-17-07, 08:21 AM | Cool, the above was really more for simulating the duels (where Goku will fight against [insert villian of the week] and be completely outmatched, then afterbeing beaten several times, he can harness more energy, grow in power, and hopefully come back and win). A few Q's, which book is Warlock in, and where can I find Chaos Monk and the Ki Blast feats? Cheers. |
| Aktariel06-17-07, 09:37 PM | Warlock is Complete Arcane. Chaos Monk is Dragon Issue 335, PG 89 Ki Blast is Players Handbook II pg 80. [Expend two uses of Stunning Fist and fire a 3d6+Wis mod ball of Force] What about spellfire channeler? :P Someone once said that Goku would be a Monk 20/Spellfire Channeler 10.... Or course, this was before swordsages. As previously mentioned, OA is a great DBZ resource. So is Rokugan Campaign Setting to an extent. [Void Feats and Points, anyone?] In terms of your battle rules, spot on. Works well for me. |
| Mindolin06-18-07, 01:09 PM | What I do for Dragon Ball Z is give them the monk's unarmed fighting at the expense of some armor prof., and let them take Desert Wind maneuvers in place of White Raven Tactics. Saiyan race works well as the Giff, with Half-Saiyan as Scro. Just give the Giff Improved Unarmed Strike in place of Firearm Prof., and the Scro gets Naturally Psionic 2 in place of bonus when fighting elves. And the Insectare can pretty much be directly said to be a Namekian of the Warrior caste. |

What is Scro? What is Insectare? |
| Mindolin06-19-07, 02:56 PM | Sorry about that, Giff, Scro, and Insectare are races from Spelljammer. They received an update in Dragon 339. |
| sdragon198406-24-07, 08:18 AM | Multiply all the numbers by 1,000. It doesn't really change any of the mechanics, since everything is still proportional, but it fits the DB flavor better. ("oh no! his strength is registering at 21,000!") |
| sdragon198406-24-07, 08:20 AM | :cloud9: What would you use for flying clouds? Wouldn't it just be enough to change the name of Flying Carpets? |
| DarthCestual06-24-07, 08:26 PM | My group did this with Marvel Super Heros, and it was a hoot. One of the things we had was calling a "Clash" (representing the loop animated fight/block/dodge) with the winner basically allowed a free shot on the other. |
| Eladrinstar06-24-07, 08:46 PM | DBZ RPG :hides: Its like a nightmare. On the internet! |
| ishpu06-24-07, 08:59 PM | I did this a long long time ago... I believe I made powerlevels based off of wisdom strength and constitution... i think the equation was something like str (mod+wis mod+con mod)X2 and additionally 1 powerlevel per lvl too... it's been awhile though. We made non specified energytype blasts like what they have now for warlocks with a prereq of a high enough wisdom to make those energy attacks. and had races like saiyans with more physical attributes while races like namekians had more mental attributes so they learned more energy attacks on average. I don't remember what multiplier we had for SS SS2 ect i guess it was higher than kaioken, and fusion was hard because we didnt realize there was already a mechanic from it in the expanded psionics handbook. you also need to make a table for different powerlevels and how much damage reduction they can make and what energy attacks/physical attacks can overcome it if any. |
