Dungeon and Dragons Beginning material [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-29-07, 01:32 PM I am about to begin a dungeon and dragons campaign. I will start to buy: D&D Basic Game, D&D Dungeon Tiles and Map Folio 3-D. After we get some play, i will try to buy Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and then start my campaign. What do you think?

04-29-07, 01:52 PM I would skip the basic game and just go straight into the Core Manuals, but that's just personal preferance.

04-29-07, 10:53 PM Screw the basic game. If you plan on playing as a hobby, it's a waste of money. Get the DM handbook and Monster Manual, and see to it there is at least 1 Players Handbook and everyone has a set of dice. It will run probably close to $100 to get everything the group would need, but it will be worth it if you stick with it.

04-30-07, 01:37 AM I generally agree with the last post, provided you want to make this investment. For what it's worth, spending the money and possibly a bit extra to get Forgotten Realms if you really want that setting will be good enough probably. Forgotten Realms is a huge setting that you could frankly have adventures in forever and still not run all the possibilities out. If you like a lot of magic going on and a really huge compaign world then you'll probably love it.
