I sit here reading through the Eberron threads, as I do to often, while watching Last Exile. I started to think that maybe it would make an intresting campaign hook to have something like it in an Eberron campaign. For those of you that have not seen it Last Exile is an anime about a steampump world, with great flying ships, as the world's weather fails and the two countries fight over the last livable land. There is apart of the anime were there is a battle between the ship Silvana and a small fleet of other ships. This takes place in a place called the Dragons teeth, a sorta waste land covered in mist in parts. Not to unlike the Mournlands in Eberron. Well anyways I got to thinkng, what if in the Mournland the Lord of Blades was makng a great flying shipin the style of Last Exile. The ship being the size in crew of a small village or hamlet.

I was think the Lord of Blades' ship could be made from parts from one of the Breland flying fortresses they made during the war. There was a battle at the fords between Breland and Crye on the Day of Mourning, soo I would think that atleast one of them may have been in the Mourning. They only tell use that only two are still in service and nothing of what happento the others. So I was thinking a large battle ship made by warforge to rain death down on the fleshes would be a like idea the LoB would have. The Mark of Death novals have a walking construct city in them that makes it's way around the Mournland as the capital for the LoB. I have to say I liked the idea when I read it and was thinking of throughing it at the players in the next campaign. I wan thte ship to be both armored and well armed as the ones in the anime. Able to fly higher then the Breland Fortresses it was based off of.

So I was thinking of starting the campaign with a few hints of trouble in the Mournland and after the PC level up a bit the have them maybe go look into the rumors. I see the Ship being constructed in one of the cannons that run through the Mournlands. The ship would be near finished as the PC find it, here they would realy deside the course of the campaign with what they do. If the try and sneak down on to the ship before lift of to destory it on the ground they would find an army of batttle harden warforged working hard to finish the last touches on the ship. If they run and report their findings to someone then the ship come through the mist in to Breland. Making it's way to sharn to attack the largest city of the Flesh races.

The other thing I have been thinking on is the question of firearms in Eberron. In Last Exile the ships are armed with canons of sorts. Their canons are powered by steam. I have been reading the threads on Guns in Eberron in the Forum and have to say I am on the side of no guns. But I like the idea and look of the ships with large canons on them. So maybe no firearms in Eberron but the LoB has made the break throw that are need to make gun powered and has been able to start making large simple canons.

I will most likely make the shots magical. But it is hard for me to realy get my heart in to it. I don't like guns. Gun in DnD are well to modren for my taste. I like DnD as sword wheeleding knights and staffed mages casting spells against monsters and dragons. I know this is a dated veiw of the game but I like the sword and pen over th egun and bullet. Maybe matchlocks are ok in some settings but in Eberron I have a hard time see in Guns. With magic powered machines and weapons, chemical powered pergectile wepons seems out of place. I mea guns came about in our world because the science was on the rise and the crossbow was no longer able to go through tthe new steel armor. In world of magic you have no need to look for a chemical type weapon to beat the armor when magic can still do the job.

So there it is my idea for a campaign. Lord of Blades with a large airship raining down death if he gets the chance. Now I ask for the people, that are good at picking apart ideas to find the holes in the campaign idea, to do what they do so well and help me refine the idea in to a good campaign. I need all the help I can get.

I plan to start the campaign at level 1 so I need to build up the PC before getting them in to the main plot of the campaign. This is where I am haveing soem trouble. I need ideas for some short adventures that will not lead the PC to far from the Lord of Blades plot.

I was going to start the campaign in Karrnath land of the undead. I was thinking Fort Bone would be a good place. They could be mercenaries there working as scouts for the Karrnath goverment. It has a good location, on the border of the Talenta Plains the Mournlands and Karrnath.

The only I idea I had so far was that one of the patrols that was sent out from the fort has gone missing and the party is part of another patrol sent to find and back up the first. They would find the first patrol was destoried by Halflings ofr Elven raiding party and now they face a long track back to the fort waiting for the same. Or they are just on patrol and get reports of Elves on the Plains from the Halflings. The Elves being in such numbers that the local tribe of Halflings needs help to handle them.
