The details that follow are sketchy, as I'm jsut throwing down the bare bones rather all the exacting details. So forgive me if I'm brief at points. So, as I was flipping through Frostburn, I found that god if ice and death, Igbhoriu (spelling is not right, im sure) trapped in that giant magical glacier of his. Plot: At the third to last adventure in Savage Tide, Demogorgon opens a planar rift which allowed the unholy waters of the River Styx to flow into the Wells of Darkness as a contingency if Shami-Amourai was ever to be released. While Charon, the Riverman, may have arrived shortly after to redirect the flow of the River, the damage that its corrosive properties had done its work. Igbhoriu, trapped within his glacier in the Wells of Darkness, was released as the Styx's waters destroyed its magical binding properties. He fled to the Material Plane, and his escape created an influx of divine energy in his favor that fueled the many Hearts of Deepest Winter artifacts, covering the Material Plane in a perpetual ice age. The Frost Giants, in a desperate bid for power, made fell pacts w/ the newest power in the Multiverse, and became his favored race. They quickly enslaved the surface world, or, those who survived, as the instant cold and crop failure killed millions. Races such as the tropical yuan-ti were exterminated as they could not bear the extreme temp. changes. --- Basically, my 5 players have to play a race from the Underdark supplement (Drow, Slyth, Gloaming, Imaskari, Illithid, ect.) or from Savage Species (one of my players wants to be a troll fighter). But I'm not sure really of what the overall objective of the campaign is. Restore the Material Plane? A war of the Gods? The latter is what I'd like best, but I dont own Faiths and Panetheons. I'd like to incorporate the 30th lvl mission from Dungeon, "The Quicksilver Hourglass". Ideas anyone? |

Create some sort of fighter academy speciallized in taking down snow giants. You can create a dessert in the middle of the ice wasteland. Questioning the powers of an ancient god?. five player grunts with mastercard. making them suffer from heat damage. one thousand player grunts with mastercard. Seeing their faces after spending months on snow and the seeing sand and fire on the other side of the road?. priceless |

Just allow time for the players to explore this frozen world and uncover the reasons for the climate shift on their own. Let them lead you in the direction they are willing to take. If they seem to get bored with the world, you can affect changes as you wish. If they really get into it, you can develop additional plot lines later. Perhaps they are asked to find and recover the lost "Box of Seasons" that would return the world to its original climate. Perhaps there will never be an end to this "Ice Age" and the players must simply adapt or perish. You can incorporate a ton of ideas from Everfrost. Or, you can even bring in to play the story arc from the Magic: The Gathering "Ice Age" cards: the humans struggle against the increasing cold and the number of undead that seem to plague the land. They are aided by a "green goddess" (or druid, or holy prophet, or enigmatic shaman, or whatever) to gather the necessary ingredients to invoke the earth-shattering "World Spell" that would bring an end to the Ice Age once and for all and bring about the Great Thaw. (Of course, this would lead to perhaps the rising of the world's oceans and many land masses getting submerged under the waves!) |
