| GrogMcGee07-25-07, 03:42 PM | I'm not entirelly sure that this belongs in this board ... so if I appologize. To the reason for this: I'm currently building an adventure set in Fairy Tale type world, that is, light harted, generally tame. And I'm having trouble comming up with fun and interesting short adventures (I'll explain what I mean in depth later). First the backstory/setup. Backround: The adventure is set in a hamlet (Haven) with a population of around 200 people. The PC are all young in age (12-16 years old) and all live in the town, have parents that have town jobs etc. Haven is a sucluded town at the edge of large forest. The approximate area of the adventure is no more than about 10 square miles (perhaps even less). Haven is built on a river with a small lake in the north. The adventures that I so far have "planned" out are simple encounters that are bassed of fairy tale type stories, ie, Red-ridding hood, Rumplestiltskin, the boy who cried wolf, Hansel and Grettle. The problem I'm having is the start. I can't think of fun and exciting 1st through 3rd level skill check style adventures that mostly take place in town. I'm aiming to keep the moster encounters to once the PC have actually left the town. So to what I'm asking: what are fun things that happen in town that a party of teenagers would find themselves doing? Especially when the town isn't being threatend by maurading monsters, evil power hungry liches, angry dragons, etc. |

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. Point: Put your fairy tell adventures in a dark world and you'll get more ideas quicker. |

Humpty Dumpty could turn out to be some sort of living construct which is shaped like an egg; the adventure is to find all of his peices and put him back together again. You could actually use that to tie together some of your other adventures as well. Maybe some of the other fairy tale characters have peices, but they won't give them up unless the PCs help them with a problem first. |
| GrogMcGee07-26-07, 11:25 AM | @ Blood_Crystal The reason I'm aiming for light and fluffy is because the "end" aims to be the dark part. The basic idea for the end is that when the town draws up the inaugural bucket of water from the new well, it comes up empty and then ... inch by inch strange tentacled creatures come pouring out of the well (mind-flayers). The practical upshot of the whole thing is that the PCs wake up years later after the Gith mount an assault on the Mind-flayer city, destorying it and leaving the PCs as the only survivors. So happy-go-lucky world ends in the underdark... @Johnny_Angel I hadn't thought of Humpty Dumpty. That could be totally silly and fun. |

| Forfeit07-26-07, 03:55 PM | Yes, a bad joke called The Hobit. |
| Johnny_Angel07-26-07, 03:55 PM | Sleeping Beauty could work as an adventure with a little bit of an adjustment. Sleeping Beauty is the daughter of the Mayor of Town; she recently fell into a deep magical slumber. The mayor has promised a large reward for anyone who can revive his daughter. Mages and scholars from all across the land have come to try to figure it out, but none have been able to figure out how to wake her up. |
| Heros_Backpack07-26-07, 08:09 PM | You might want to take a look at the 'Princess School' series of books by Jane Mason (Princess School and its neighbour Charm school are where fairytale princes and princesses learn the skills they will need when they get to their fairytales) Possibilities: Help Cinderella escape from her room in time to go to the school ball. Catch the gingerbread man when he runs through town. Have a fairytale sports day - persuade the frog to fetch your ball from the pond, climb the rope in and out of the tower, bob for apples, fetch as much water from the well as possible in a given time limit etc. Patch up Jack's head after he's fallen down the hill again. |

Mages and scholars from all across the land have come to try to figure it out, but none have been able to figure out how to wake her up. I'd thought of that ... still tossing around ideas for it. The Cinderella one could work nicely. |
