Hi
Im going to start a new campaign in the forgotten realm setting. I already have some stuff fix like the main villan and other stuff. like:
. the player start at lv 5
. they start of by meeting with elminster ( because he have recruided them to save faerun)
. the main villan is a dark tyrant like sauron ( in the lord of the ring saga) but I dont know if I make him human or something else.

the main creature are goblinoid creature, draconic and undead. the basic...

the reason why I have write to you guy is because Im a good DM want I start campaign and end campaign but for the middle of the adventure Im not really good for that. so im asking you guy for help. so i`ll really appreciate if you guy help me out. tnx in advance

P.-S.: sorry for my english, im french

Starting at level 5 is fine, but I'd suggest avoiding the use of Elminster or any of the other really prominent NPCs. The (over)use of these guys can become quite annoying to players, since they have a tendency to steal the spotlight.

There isn't really a Sauron-equivalent in the FR, or at least none who are so on a worldwide scale. There are some groups who fill a similar in various local regions, though.

Goblinoids, dragons, and undead. The one place which comes to mind would be the Silver Marches region, using the Host Tower of the Arcane in Luskan as the foil. There are plenty of goblinoids in the region, and a few dragons (though they're typically enemies of the Host Tower, not allies), and the ruins of Illusk in Luskan itself are crawling with undead (though these aren't controlled by the Host Tower either).

What starts with a minor government official asking the PCs to investigate some goblinoid raids could then lead through developments which see them plumbing the ruins of Illusk and perhaps confronting a dragon or two - all of these plot threads then point towards the Host Tower, or at least one of the wizards who dwells there. That makes it a more manageable objective: Taking out the entire Host Tower is beyond 5th level characters, but mid-level characters might be able to handle a single mage and his guards, especially if he's not actually based in the tower itself whilst he carries out his operations. (Indeed, maybe he's secretly ensconced in one of the cities of the Silver Marches itself...)

I think the Zulkir of necromancy in Thay is a perfectly acceptable villan for any level... he grows various undead... low lvl too, so your pc-s can interupt him during a long period of time... and after a while, he can simply consider the Pc-s to be a threat and openly attack them( not himself offcourse, but sends assasins and the like)
