A while back, months ago I think, I remember stumbling across a thread here where a number of people showed off the maps they had made for their campaign settings, and I thought maybe it was time for a new thread on just that topic! Specifically though, I was thinking perhaps that as well as posting their map, people could give a brief summary of what applications or medium they used to create them, and any specific techniques they have found that they think makes for a nice-looking map. That way maybe we can all pick up some tips for use in the future. Anyway, I thought I'd start it off with my own campaign map. http://www.imperialcross.co.uk/stuff/firmacampaignmap.gif I used Paint Shop Pro 7 (as I do for all my maps). I'm not a fan of vector images (I'm not very good with them), so the map is just a resized version of my huge one with all the roads and borders on it. I used the effects tool to paint on the textures (a parchment texture and a terrain texture) with the lightness down and burn brushes. The map label font is Emperors Scrall, one of my favourites (it's a free font you can find on the web somewhere). I tend to prefer earthy tones, usually browns and such for my maps, I'm not a huge fan of bright colours really. As you can see, only one half of the central continent is really mapped out, the big version is huge. Maybe I'll get around to doing the rest some day. Your turn!
