I could use some help with ideas for my next weeks session for my 1.0 AD+D game.

My players, against all expectations, have blithely accepted an offer of merc work from a minor Lord residing on the 2cnd or 3rd (havent decided yet) layer of Gehenna. His name is Barvan the Ashen Lord, Master of the Hounds- He's a homebrew 1.0 version of a chain/tripper fighter that looks most like a 12' minotaur made of cooling magma surrounded by a small cloud of ash, who, obviously, has a good relationship with hellhounds (lotsa hellhound pets, ability to summon them, etc). Due to an unfortunate accident involving his name, a magic circle, and 5000 years his original barony in Gehenna has been overrun by other forces, and now that he's free he wishes to reclaim his home from the squatters.

The basic pattern is going to be scouting the area to see who/what is now controlling his territory, trying to find his old lieutenants etc and then wage a campaign against the squatters. Basically what I need is some suggestions as to the fates or current circumstances of his various lieutenants and an idea for an unusual one or two (most will be other "magmataurs" or hags, with at least one gargoyle, but I want an unusual 1 or 2). He's basically playing it straight with the party, but I could also use a few examples of things that can happen with him or his lieutenants to demonstrate to the party that these are not entirely nice people theyre working with (who feed off despair), without being bad enough to be a deal-breaker, along with things that help set the general atmosphere of the plane. Any suggestions as to things that could be squatting in his house would be helpful too, as I'm sort of torn as to what to use. Daemons and demodands are the most common big things around in Gehenna, and I suppose Hell is nearby so a rogue devil as BBEG is possible, but what else could there be thats big enough to be a challenge for a lvl 9-10 party?
