Hello,
I'm looking for a place where people talk about world building. I'm about a year into working on a new D&D world, and I'm looking for a place where I can start getting some good criticism on my world, as well as possibly get some people to do some playtesting for me, possibly through a message board D&D game. Should I just start talking here? Are there other sites better suited for this? Thanks for helping.

Eruvian.com (http://eruvian.com) has free tools designed specifically to help world builders think through and create their world, which can then be published in a standardized, searchable format on the site. There is a community rating and review system to provide feedback on a per-component basis (e.g. on a particular race, locale, or spell within your setting). The site just launched a month ago, has an active community, and is growing rapidly.

Another good place to find world builders is the CBG (http://theCBG.org).

Finally, a great place that focuses just on mapmaking is the Cartographer's Guild (http://cartographersguild.com).

Good luck!

Mafro, that sounds a lot like an advertisement for eruvian.com! JK :). The CBG looks like there is a lot going on there that may help me, and I may even be able to use eruvian as well, but I don't really see much about playtesting on either of those sites. I saw that the CBG (what's with all those links to cabbages, anyway?) has a Play-by-Post forum, which could be useful.

Man, that Cartographers Guild looks great. I'm glad you sent that link, I've been needing some help with some of my maps. I'm registering there right now.

What's the emoticon for cheezy sales pitches? =)

Seriously, I love the Cartographers' Guild and heartily encourage anyone even THINKING of making a map to drop by there.

Oops...was that another advertisement? ;)

Mafro,
The funny thing is, I've already registered at eruvian.com, as well as the CBG. I registered at eruvian about a month ago, but never got around to posting anything until yesterday. And the CBG, I had registered at over a year ago, but the site has changed its format since then, so I didn't recognize it. Small world... Anyway, I'm starting (slowly) to put up some content, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the set-up of the site. It's not the most user-friendly site I've ever been to, with its fixed widths and weird menu layouts. I have a few questions about the site, but I suppose I'll post those over there. What do you go by over there, I didn't see a Mafro in the User list.

Some people like the forums on Giant in the Playground (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15). I think they have a few articles on world-building stuff as well.

I, too, use eruvian for the most part (though I have recently begun using the forums on CGB and Giant in the Playground). I say take a look at all of them and see what works for you.

Queenfange has the right notion here. The site you like best is the one that works best for you. I can give you plenty of great reasons why the CBG would make a great home for you, but if you've already tried it out, and it wasn't your cup of tea, then I wish you the best and hope you find a place that fits your needs! Here are some other forums and/or sites worth checking out:

The Forge: Indie RPG development (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/)

Strolen's Citadel (http://www.strolen.com/content.php?page=114)

EnWorld (http://www.enworld.org) and their homebrew rules forum (http://www.enworld.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45)

Good luck, and I hope you'll make it back over to the CBG sometime and give it another try, but if not, I understand. :)

Thanks Ishmayl,
I remember you guys being really nice over there. Hey, I forgot my password, and I clicked to receive it last night, but I haven't received it yet. Do you think you could help me out there? I've PMed you with my user name and email address.

"Build it, and they will come!" :p

Personally, I've gotten 51 review of individual components of my own setting at Eruvian, which has been rather useful for developing it further...
