| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 03:35 AM | You'll need to give us something to begin with. |
| Throdin05-06-07, 12:52 PM | Like what |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 01:57 PM | An outline, a theme, a genre, anything. |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 02:06 PM | Names of any kind, you say? I'm all over that. Here's a chart I use for generating random fiendish names in my games, with a bit of Diablo II flavor. For each chart, roll d% and record the result. The initial and secondary names combine into one word to form the fiend's name, and the third chart is simply for a title. For example, if I were to roll d% three times and get results of 77, 31, and 70, the name generated would be Spawnfeast the Rancid. The chart provides for a total of 1,000,000 possible names, so the chances of rolling the same name are...not very likely. Until we have some specifics to work off of, this is about as much as I can do. d% Result Initial Name 1 Acid 2 Arm 3 Ash 4 Bane 5 Barb 6 Battle 7 Bile 8 Blade 9 Blight 10 Blood 11 Bone 12 Brain 13 Breath 14 Brine 15 Burden 16 Cancer 17 Carrion 18 Claw 19 Cold 20 Corpse 21 Curse 22 Cyst 23 Dark 24 Death 25 Doom 26 Dread 27 Drought 28 Eve 29 Eye 30 Fang 31 Fever 32 Fiend 33 Filth 34 Fist 35 Flesh 36 Fray 37 Fume 38 Fury 39 Grave 40 Grease 41 Horn 42 Ichor 43 Itch 44 Jaw 45 Limb 46 Loss 47 Mane 48 Metal 49 Mold 50 Moon 51 Nail 52 Night 53 Oil 54 Pain 55 Panic 56 Plague 57 Poison 58 Pox 59 Puke 60 Pus 61 Razor 62 Rot 63 Scab 64 Scale 65 Scythe 66 Shadow 67 Shame 68 Shard 69 Silt 70 Skin 71 Skull 72 Slime 73 Smoke 74 Smog 75 Snot 76 Soul 77 Spawn 78 Spike 79 Spine 80 Spiral 81 Spire 82 Spirit 83 Spit 84 Stain 85 Star 86 Talon 87 Tar 88 Tongue 89 Tusk 90 Venom 91 Virus 92 Void 93 Vomit 94 War 95 Waste 96 Wing 97 Wire 98 Worm 99 Wrath 100 Zit d% Result Secondary Name 1 Arc 2 Ban 3 Bash 4 Bend 5 Birth 6 Bite 7 Blast 8 Blind 9 Blister 10 Brand 11 Break 12 Burn 13 Call 14 Carve 15 Caw 16 Choke 17 Chop 18 Clash 19 Clasp 20 Clench 21 Coat 22 Crash 23 Crawl 24 Crush 25 Cry 26 Cut 27 Drink 28 Envy 29 Fall 30 Fear 31 Feast 32 Fester 33 Froth 34 Gore 35 Greed 36 Grind 37 Growl 38 Gush 39 Gut 40 Hack 41 Harvest 42 Haunt 43 Hew 44 Hoard 45 Hound 46 Howl 47 Hunger 48 Hush 49 Ink 50 Jab 51 Maim 52 Mangle 53 Maul 54 Net 55 Oath 56 Part 57 Pierce 58 Pulse 59 Rage 60 Rake 61 Rape 62 Reap 63 Rend 64 Rip 65 Run 66 Saw 67 Scathe 68 Scold 69 Seep 70 Seethe 71 Send 72 Shatter 73 Slash 74 Slaughter 75 Slice 76 Slit 77 Slither 78 Smash 79 Snap 80 Snarl 81 Split 82 Spray 83 Stab 84 Stalk 85 Stomp 86 Strike 87 Sunder 88 Taunt 89 Tear 90 Tempt 91 Thirst 92 Touch 93 Twitch 94 Whip 95 Wilt 96 Wither 97 Wound 98 Wrench 99 Writhe 100 Yell d% Result Title 1 The Abomination 2 The Abyssal 3 The Annihilator 4 The Assassin 5 The Awful 6 The Barbaric 7 The Bastard 8 The Betrayer 9 The Bloody 10 The Broken 11 The Burning 12 The Butcher 13 The Cancerous 14 The Chained 15 The Corpulent 16 The Corrupt 17 The Damned 18 The Deceiver 19 The Defiler 20 The Despairing 21 The Destroyer 22 The Disfigured 23 The Dreadful 24 The Dying 25 The Endless 26 The Exiled 27 The Eternal 28 The Eyeless 29 The Fallen 30 The Feral 31 The Flayer 32 The Fleshless 33 The Foaming 34 The Forgotten 35 The Forsaken 36 The Foul 37 The Gluttonous 38 The Grotesque 39 The Gruesome 40 The Heartless 41 The Hopeless 42 The Horrific 43 The Hunter 44 The Impaler 45 The Impure 46 The Ineffable 47 The Infernal 48 The Jagged 49 The Killer 50 The Leprous 51 The Lost 52 The Lustful 53 The Mad 54 The Maggot 55 The Malevolent 56 The Merciless 57 The Minion 58 The Miserable 59 The Misshapen 60 The Murderer 61 The Nameless 62 The Narcissist 63 The Nauseous 64 The Opposer 65 The Outcast 66 The Overlord 67 The Possessed 68 The Primordial 69 The Putrid 70 The Rancid 71 The Reaper 72 The Repulsive 73 The Revolting 74 The Rotting 75 The Ruler 76 The Sadist 77 The Scarred 78 The Screaming 79 The Shifting 80 The Sickening 81 The Sinner 82 The Slave 83 The Slayer 84 The Sloth 85 The Soulless 86 The Spoiled 87 The Suffering 88 The Suicidal 89 The Tainted 90 The Terrifying 91 The Tortured 92 The Tyrant 93 The Unclean 94 The Ungrateful 95 The Unholy 96 The Vengeful 97 The Vile 98 The Wailing 99 The Warped 100 The Zealot |
| Return of the Flumph05-06-07, 03:04 PM | I so hated the D2 random naming system. |
| Dracomortis05-06-07, 03:23 PM | I so hated the D2 random naming system. The biggest problem I had with it was that there were so few combinations that it was fairly common to encounter two or more monsters with the same name in the course of a single act or even in the same level. So anyway, what exactly are you looking for Throdin? Are you trying to establish a world with a specific theme in mind, or are you just looking for random ideas from which to draw ideas from? |
| Khementari05-06-07, 03:37 PM | So anyway, what exactly are you looking for Throdin? A premade campaign setting? If you don't want to put in the time and do the work then just go to the store and buy something. |
| Throdin05-06-07, 04:50 PM | Well i have a map but i think the Dungeon Masters Handbook doesnt give enough about world building so i was just looking for a litle help. I want a world based around a war torn world. Strongly based on dragons, and many factions. |
| PoorHobo05-07-07, 03:37 AM | You just described Eberron, seriously. Get the Eberron campaign setting book. |
| cradlefilthmikey05-07-07, 06:33 AM | A few questions would need to be polled on for us to make a base for the would, it will heavly depend on what people want to play. once they have answered basic question we can build the world as we see fit. What Type of world are we making here? thats the first question. Is it heavly magical? mecha? primitave? or a combination of the both? Is it going to be a world were rouge mercenaries roam everywhere, fighting for fame? Kingdoms trying to rule over all? A world where (theives, vikings, pirate, etc.) ruin the lands? Races, mixed, it gives players a variety to chosse from, the more mix the better! !!!Monsters!!! Depends on if you want a high or low powered world. The planes. Keep the basics, Abyssmal, Heavnly, Astral, Material. Of course there should be secrets arround every corner(even for DM's!) We also need to establish Legends, Gods, Demons, and Dragons, and or and demi of the sort. If you are really serious about this we would need a group of people willing to take on sepreate and joint tasks. This way things can get done faster. Once people start giving input on what they exactly like in a game by responding to simple questions we can move from there. I am more than willing to help once you feed me more information. |
| Jayne05-07-07, 11:36 AM | Like PoorHobo said, I would also recommend getting the Eberron Campaign Setting. It makes an excellent starting point for how to flesh out a setting. Aside from that, let me work down the list a little. Cities: If your looking for a war-torn world, more than likely there will be few major cities. Unless, of course, they were somehow spared from the carnage. Most of the time it would be the random country town that avoids the conflict. Factions: Do you mean countries, or something like a guild or company? The whole perspective changes with the scale of each (unless your McDonalds...). Races: Ooh, the fun part. Depending upon what level you want your characters to start at, this can be fun. You could stick with the normal races as a base, and then heartily expand on it as your characters move out into the wide world and encounter "unusual" things. For now I would say get the ECS. Its good reading.:) |
| Elldorith05-08-07, 06:43 PM | How war torn do you want it? Did the Good Guys Win or Did they Loose? What role do the Dragons play in the War? Are your Gods in heavy with this War. Some Examples Let say you have an alliance of Good Allied Nations. Elves, dwarves Humans and the like band together to stop the Goblin Horde. The Goblin Horde has allies with Dragons that help to Detroy the Elven Realm while the Human Realm gets defeated by the Golblin Tribes. Refugees flee to the Mountain home of the Dwarves and try despratly to hold out. Fate comes to the aid of the last defenders, the Dragons turn on their allied and the two forces as now at war. In the aftermath a cult of Necromancers whorshipping Orcus raise the dead from the countless Battles. Now you have four diffrent cultures. 1.Dwarves and refugees. The Dwarves keeping thier home and opening thier doors to the others places them in a position of power as they try to restore Order. 2.Dragons and Allies battle the Goblins Back into submission. 3.Gobliniod Tribes. Powerful leaders keep them under cotrol as they Build a New World. 4.Undead of Orcus- The Necromancers try to stay out of the plots as they Grow in Power. There are alot of open questions here but it is a start if you wish to use it. Good Luck. Elldorith |
| Throdin05-10-07, 10:07 PM | thanks well id i wanted to get more serious what would i do |
| Baernwulf_of_Nor05-10-07, 10:52 PM | There are 2 kinds of War torn worlds with Dragons. 1 is Eberron where they are lots of wars, lots of dragon marks, and lots of shiny, advanced stuff. I have to squint when I look at that book. 2 is a run down world where dragons rule the skies and everything is in shades of grey or red. No building has all 4 sides and it's rare to find a Male NPC over 18 that doesn't talk with a gruff voice, isn't covered in scars, and has shaved in 5 hours. (I wonder which one I like more. heh.) But really, "war torn world with lots of dragons" is kinda broad. Main aspects id think about if i were you is.. #1 What type of land is it? Forrest, desert, bog, ash/ mountain wasteland, blah blah blah... #2 What is it like? Ex- lots of people run medieval europe with magic, & monsters thrown in. A big change in many worlds is the dominant race. Remember, dominant isn't always the most common. #3 What kind of monsters reside here? Do you like to have forrests filled with Gnolls, or do you like to make a dungeon so you need no excuses when the Ogibberhydrifagemon rears its 20 heads. #4 How are things held together politically? Is stongest man chief or does the weak diplomat take the highest seat on the Council. MOST importantly, unless your world is completely out of the ordinary, its the adventure and plot that makes the gaming session. Reason for this: most players dont want a description of the beautiful landscape you have painstakingly created unless something is not normal with it. BoN |
