I have a setting but I just can't think of an adventure IN the setting

So here it is (ALL help welcome)

Haven

Haven is a huge valley surrounded by mountains. It is the definition of nature. Absolutely undisturbed with a bounty of fauna and flora. But Haven is not uninhabited mix of races live in small clans in harmony with nature and each other. but reasently a new threat has penetrated Haven.....

And here is where you come in

Is the valley isolated from the rest of the world? If so, then a cool story beginning could be that explorers from the outside world, possibly very "civilized" and not in tune with the natural world have just discovered haven for the first time. As it happens, the entire mountain range in which the valley sits falls in the border of the grand kingdom outside, but the mountains had made it previously undiscovered.

Now, the explorers know a fertile valley lies within. The King of the outside kingdom has claimed this land as his (it does fall within the borders of his kingdom, after all). He sends heralds to annouce that the haven is being welcomed with open arms into the Great Kingdom and that they are happy to help the "uncivilized" denizens of Haven come into the modern age. One problem - the denizens of Haven like things just the way they are.

Not to mention that while the King's intentions are good, if somewhat misguided, his sinister Prime Minister of Exploration has other plans for the fertile valley, as does his Black Dragon master...

In the beginning of the campaign, the denizens of Haven may well try to solve things diplomatically, and the King will be fine with this, sending diplomats and ambassadors. But when the leader of the ambassadors is found murdered by poison found only in Haven, all signs point to sedition on the part of Haven's chosen diplomats - the PCs! But it's a set up - the Prime Minister doesn't want negotiations; he wants Haven to rebel so it can be conquered, and all its incredible resources given over to the Ministry of Exploration. Which will serve the plans of the Prime Minister quite well, since the rare herbs needed to turn his secret master into a Dracolich can only be found in Haven.

What will the PCs do? Will they seek to clear their names and look for a peaceful solution? Will they, in fact, lead a rebellion against the Great Kingdom, embroiling the valley in a long and brutal war? Or will they realize that they've been targeted by a deeper plot, and search for the truth, however sinister it might be? And what will they do when they find it?

Hope this helps! Good luck!

This sounds very interesting but all my players me included are really new to the game and I don't thing they can handle diplomatic battles just yet. I also would some thing a little more involved with magic and mystery - maybe a strange sickness or plague that can only be overcome by some long lost magical means. Am I being too picky?

All help welcomed :D :D :D :D

A tribe of stone giants, native to the surrounding mountains, has returned after a 400 year long exodus and has discovered that the “little people” have populated their most sacred burial ground: Haven. And they are not very happy!

Of course, for the first adventure, you shouldn’t throw your PCs up against giants. They would die very horribly! Instead send them on an adventure to explore a recently discovered tomb in the mountains. Its where one of the ancient stone giants was buried some 400 years ago. Its full of wild critters and has a few remaining traps. The stone giants will consider such an intrusion as sacrilegious and blasphemes, and will become even more angry!

Later on in the campaign, the stone giants may demand tribute from Haven. They may demand that the people of Haven pack up their belongings and leave. They may start smashing Haven into smithereens. Its your campaign, so you decide!

Well, if you don't want political intrigue.....

Do something simple. Have a simple adventure like raiding some caves where there are orcs or something and build from there. What you can do is start with hack and slash, and piece them together as you go. Take notes, at least mental notes and build a story.

An example (adjust for level if necessary): The city is seeing more and more merchant caravans ambushed by raiders. Something is either stirring up the local "monster" population, or that population is increasing. It's up to the PCs to investigate a little, maybe even guard a caravan that gets attacked. If they have a ranger, they could follow tracks. Then its a simple dungeon crawl.

Leave clues in the adventure, like the monsters are being driven from their home area by a greater threat. Perhaps their area is being attacked by a newly powerful empire. The empire can be good or bad. Maybe there's a new intelligence leading these monsters.

All you have to do is build. Create the background piece by piece as you go. Don't wing it, just don't create the whole pie. Try some crust first, then work on the filling.
