Greetings to all, I was hoping I could get some help with fine-tuning a pantheon for a campaign I am making, and more specifically I am in need of help with domain placement. The pantheon is comprised of scions of both light and darkness, with names taken from the scions of FFXII, which gives 11 pairs of deities. Why not have that many gods? FR has at least 30 deities and an overdeity. You don't fight those normally. Greyhawk had over a hundred if I'm not mistaken, which I very well could be.

Sorry to upset you, I'm just more into playing and running material campaigns that may as well never involve gods.
(the healer class from the miniature handbook's there for that)

Talisman: Thank you very much Talisman. :D All of the domains look great where you put them, and a lot more appropriate compared to some of the lists I was thinking of.

Alexeduardo: You are right in that it is a large amount of deities, but most of my players do strive ever to fight the gods. So I was trying to get an amount close to what they had for some of the pantheons in the Deities and Demigods book. It also helped that I thought to implement the scions I found in FFXII, which helped me with names and gave me a general point of reference.

DMaster42: I just did a rough count using the deity list over at crystal keep and I think Grayhawk has 74 or so deities. By the same list, FR has a couple more, like 78 or so. This is just a rough estimate though.

Edit: I would just like to say thank you to all who replied. :)

Personally, I don't think you have too many deities. Most "real life" cultures developed hundreds if not thousands of gods and goddesses to help add meaning to realities of life. Having this variety in my opinion also adds a LOT of potential for future adventures and storylines.

For example, if you have only one evil deity in your campaign, say the god of death, and that all evil creatures in your world pay homage to this being, it might get a bit boring after a while if every temple target is a temple to the god of death.

If you have multiple deities, you can have some cross-over portfolios leading to rivalries among the clergy, religious persecution, "holy" wars, etc. Plus, in terms of the creativity aspect, I always kind of enjoyed developing lots of gods and goddesses even if many of them were never used. It was always fun for me and added a sense of realism to the game world.

For those of us NOT familiar with FFXII, what are the scions? Can you define your terms? :D

Gilgalad: "In Final Fantasy XII, the Espers are powerful beings, created by the gods themselves. However, the Espers that join your side are the scions of darkness, who had rebelled against the very gods that had created them."
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/ (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Esper_%28Final_Fantasy_XII%29)

While not exactly proper in its meaning, I took the term scion to mean prophet for the general purpose it was to serve, and they were a child of a belief and meant to represent certain groups of people. In general people would dispute over which was the proper scion, such as Andrammelech or Deudalephon being the proper scion of the Emperor. Did that cover what you asked? If not, just let me know and I will try better.

Rhineglade: Those are some good ideas that I will have to look into. While holy wars were something that was bound to happen given how I included the deities into my world, strangely I was ignoring the fact that there would be religious persecution and even some rivalry among clergy of the same faith. I now have several adventures just waiting to be put to paper now. :)
