| Elf_Jedi01-24-08, 12:46 AM | After like a year errr...two, I have returned. : ) Homeward Bound: Earth Background: In the mid 2300's mankind finally managed to achieve Faster than Light Travel. With Earth facing over-population, probes were sent across the universe looking for a planet suitable for colonization. A planet was found and it became known as Alpha Centuri. The nations of Earth joined together and build three massive starships, The Cosmic Voyager I, The Cosmic Voyager II and the Cosmic Voyager III. Each was designed to carry thousands of people in stasis and millions of tons of supplies. Even at FTL speeds the journey still took twelve years to complete the journey. The colonization efforts went well and after 50 years nearly 25 million people inhabited Alpha Centuri. It seemed mankind had just entered into a new Golden Era... But, on Earth things were different. Soon after the colonization efforts began a parasite found Earth. These pathogens would enter people lungs and bloodstream, making the infected violently ill. Eventually these pathogens collected in a person’s brain, and they began exhibiting control over there host. The infected would become extremely violent and aggressive. They would die when their bodies could no longer handle the stresses applied to them. Soon it was realized that the parasite could be destroyed with radiation. The parasite grew tolerant of the radiation. With no other choice the humans were forced to increase the amount of radiation they used. The Conquest of the Parasite as it became know was halted but at an enormous cost. An estimated 85 percent of Earth’s land was severely contaminated. Mankind attempted to rebuilt, but it was difficult as there were little resources. Power stations ran for only few weeks. The Earth went dark. Vehicles soon ran out of fuel. Society once again became tribal. Fighting soon broke out, each one was starved and needed food, water and fuel. One of the most valuable resources became women. During the outbreak of the parasite, it was proven that women were more susceptible to infection and nearly all of Earth's women were wiped out. Each faction seems to believe that it is their duty to re-populate the world. Women are property and are only used for creating offspring. When a women is “finished” she is cast in the wilderness, because keeping her would be a burden. Magic: Magic is cause by genetic mutations caused by the massive amounts of radiation strewn across the globe. Magic is most often exhibited in animals, but can also be exhibited amoung humans. Both cases are extremely rare since the amount of radiation needed to cause such drastic changes would be lethal to the organism. Magic is feared, magic users are considered dangerous, people believe them to be contaminated and people try to avoid contact with them as much as possible. When possible magic users atempt to blend in with there non-arcane counterparts, but this is often difficult since most have physical mutations from the radiation they were exposed to. Technology : Human technology is quite advance, great strides were made in all fields of science. The problem now is most of the technolgy is useless. Earth has no fuel, no electricity. Attempts have been made to use solar, wind and hydro power, but little resources can be spared to these efforts. Mankind also built the greatest cities ever to be seen, most now lie abandoned, the wonders of building and engineering are rotting away. Human weaponry also became quite advance, there were development in all sorts of energy based weapons as well as various types of magnetic acelerator waepons. Unfortunanetly, these have taken a back seat to traditional balistic weapons, since these weapons need to be powered. More to Come.... |

The women amongst the initial colonists would have to have been squeezing out octuplets constantly. And if you assume that all these children where being grown in artificial wombs you'd still face a problem that these children would need an infrastructure to support them. Its a matter of how big you'd want to make these colony ships. But it would be more logical if the several thousand colonists would build out more slowly so there would be time to build the cities they need to live in. A nice touch to add would be genetic colonists. A foetus is frozen on earth. And on the new planet thawed and conceived through artificial insemination. Allowing for more genetic diversity without requiring a lot more mass to be sent across those vast distances. |

| Elf_Jedi01-26-08, 10:49 PM | Are you using the D20 Apocolypse rulebook? No. I dispise most the D20 Modern and D20 Future Material. And my players don't really like this concept, so I'm putting this on hold anyways. If I'm not going to use it, I not going to work on it right now. |
