Let me start by saying this is the first time I have ever even stepped onto this forum so I will try not to offend anyone with my rather nOOb-ish style of post.
I was wondering where I should start on making my campaign setting. I want to create a setting based upon possibly the greatest video game series of all time Zelda. I was thinking a Hyrule campaign world would be fascinating and it'd certainly open up some new races and classes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I too have considered making such a campaign world. I don't have time to offer much, but I would certainly be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Did you want a campaign moldeled directly after Hyrule and the Zelda games or did you want one inspired by said series?

Actually I wanted to do a little of both. There are numerous Zelda games that hit the shelves and I want to somehow combine them. You've got O of T and Majora's Mask but you also have Oracle of Ages/Seasons and all of the other gameboy series. I've begun to catalogue (slowly I might add, running a business and going to college takes up an enormous amount of time) a list of the monsters from each game, as well as a list of the new races/classes. I can post some of the lists I've compiled at this point -- Is there a specific format I should use? Thank you for your help.

Lookee here: http://www.kobolds-keep.net/downloads.html (third column). You could probably pick and choose from the fluff while ignoring/modifying the rules differences from D&D 3.5 as you see fit.

At any rate, something to look at for inspiration.

This is bloody BRILLIANT. Thank you. I must ask though, to whom do I give credit for anything I grab?

I have decided to continue work on this setting. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I will be posting what I have over the next week or so.

I made the Deku race once, and here's what I think from my observations:

Dekus are normal treelike plants, animated with a dark life essence. They move in a completely different way than anything else; their motion not following the same laws that others' does. Think of that servant from the movie Merlin. Without the essence, they become like any other plant, as shown by the Butler's son in Majora's Mask.

This may be taboo, but I am going to comment on your sig Tuah, not on the thread's topic.

Did you know that in the 1500's anyone who thought that zero or infinity were numbers were burned at the stake for heresy?

Such is the Eighth Wonder of the World. Idiots in large numbers.

However, it is an undeclared Eighth Wonder, because God's number is 777, and 8 is a larger number than that.

I wasn't aiming to create a theological religion bash.

I'm pretty sure that someone made a 200 page PDF of hyrule, check d20 videogames. It would save you a lot of work.

I'm not bashing the religion. Just the people who think everything in the world is evil. :P

I have two suggestions; give the half-elf race a boost (by say giving them human bonus skills - this idea was mentioned in the book Unearthed Arcana as a footnote from a creator; a very good footnote), and make all heroes left-handed!

If I remember Zelda correctly they used gems as coinage. They also allowed you to whack trees and have gems and hearts appear. How are you going to handle coinage?

Using gems ( I think the Zelda games call them rupees, but I'm not sure) is a good way to give flavor to the setting in a really easy way. Such small things are often very effective at making a world feel real and different. I would, however, advise against having te characters be able to obtain rupees (or extra hit points) by whacking trees and plants. That just doesn't quite work in an RPG. This is a place where I think inspired by trumps modelled on.

A few years ago some guys on these boards made a Zelda d20 game.
It's based on 3.0 and I don't think it's been updates since as far back as Wind Waker, but it's got a really great gazetteer full of flavor text and whatnot, along with a bunch of races, custom classes, a point-based magic system that fits Zelda's flavor, and over 30 prestige classes.

You can search for it online and probably find the pdf.

Oh wait, there's a link to it above...

Oh well; it's so amazing that it bears repeating.
