| TheAnnoyingOne03-20-08, 04:12 PM | Alrighty, I'll give as much backstory as possible to help get the ideas flowing. The characters are all 8th level; Barbarian, Wizard, Rouge, and Cleric. My story started off of an idea using the Circle of Eight in Greyhawk, the wizards which reside over the city, and also secretely control pretty much everything in my campaign. Pretty much the adventurers realize the town is becoming more and more out of control, and eventually come to hear from various wizards that the Circle of Eight was disturbed. Mordenkainen contacts the adventures, shoots the **** for a while, tells them that the other members have suddenly disapeared. He tells them that if they wish to help they must become stronger. He sends them to a secret valley in which there are portals which teleport the party to a certain area which were pretty much just whatever I thought of that would allow the party to fight a variety of creatures in different places, to change things up and make it fun and interesting. At the end of each "scenario" the party finds a gem, the gem has specific powers put into it from each of the wizards on the Circle. The gem is occasionally put into a sword/shield/some kind of equipment. I'm out of ideas for what to put "into" the stones however, I don't want to make them too powerful but at the same time, the adventurers are supposed to use them to eventually defeat the BBEG. I'm also not sure how to continue on from here, once the party is done with the 8 scenarios, I'm not sure what else to do. I really should have planned this out before I started playing it, I was pretty much making this up as I went. Any help would be great, as would any resources to use. |

| TheAnnoyingOne03-20-08, 07:32 PM | That's not what I meant, even though in my first post that's what it seems like. It actually seems to be a hit so far, but it's hard to describe without typing out the whole adventure. |
| taradusis03-20-08, 07:52 PM | Perhaps base them off IOUN STONES ,combine two stone's powers into one stone? |
| Alexeduardo03-21-08, 09:00 PM | Maybe the stones dont have any power themselves and the whole point was to bring the party together and have them train. After that, you can kill Morendaiken and trap the PCs in a ruined city that's infested by zombies, petty scavengers and heavily armed mercenay parties. Well, that just came to me and refused to go until I wrote it. Now it just looks dumb sitting there on the screen. |
| Quietis03-24-08, 04:45 AM | My first thought would be to base each stone on one of the Dragonmarks from the Eberron Campaign Setting. You decide when the stone "levels up" and gains new powers; the powers themselves would be limited, but still useful. |
| Rinian203-25-08, 09:30 AM | You could go the computer game path. Materia were magical, upgradeable stones in Final Fantasy VII way back when. The cool thing about these stones is that once they reached a high enough level they spawned another identical yet inexperineced stone. They could be placed on either weapons or armour. There were elemental ones like Fire and Thunder and, depending on which item they were attached to, they provided defensive of offensive bonuses. It was some time ago that I played the game so I don't remember everything... There was another game that I think was on the Dreamcast and the characters had special weapons that could instantly switch between various elemental possibilites depending on what kind of enemy they were facing. Of course, they had to find an item that would allow their weapons to access of type of element. I hope I've given you some ideas. |
| Holy_Beholder03-29-08, 11:11 AM | Start giving them stones which form totally invulnerable elementals(unless you hit the stone, or are an earth elemental). Then give the elementals special abilities with the new stones. Basically a player can decide to meditate for a battle, and use the elemental instead. That will cover several stones. Although you might want to do a campaign without any necessary collection. It gets old after a while. |
