| sally_jones03-19-08, 12:22 AM | i'm running a custom campaign and the party will be spending sometime in a large city. it is more work than i can make time for to build a new city from the ground up. i was hoping to buy a supplement book for a specific premade city and plug it into my campaign. any suggestions? the city is a tropical port. the laws a very lax so most illegal trade is done there. it also has a very rich gambling industry. order in the city is mostly kept by a dwarven casino owner. rich folks also go there for vacationing so resorts are there as well. |

You might be able to work that into City of Stormreach fairly easily. |
| Selgard03-19-08, 10:16 AM | "The World's Largest City" is an expensive supplement- but it's HUGE. and It's one big city. It's specifically designed to be 1) ripped apart to be several cities. (it's written in "wards" or "zones" that you can use independently of each other) or used as a gigantic whole. It has upteeen gazillion statted NPC's, building maps, lore, history, NPC interaction and whatnot, for you to build on. That having been said- it's also expensive. Realms has a "waterdeep" book that details the city. If the players are not overly familiar with that place it could make for a cheap(er) alternative. |
| Orchomenos03-19-08, 10:26 AM | Check this thread (http://www.dndarchive.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=528). There are a few different city descriptions. |
| sally_jones03-19-08, 02:24 PM | stormreach and waterdeep sound good. what of sharn? does cityscape have anything? |
| Amaril03-19-08, 02:28 PM | I was going to suggest Sharn, but it's not really a port town. Granted, it's considered to be in a tropical climate and has a docks district, but it's more like New York than Tortuga. Plus the laws (not to be confused with "the law") aren't very lax there. |
| sally_jones03-19-08, 02:31 PM | this is more like L.A. |
| Amaril03-19-08, 02:36 PM | this is more like L.A. OK, so I'm imagining sunny, spread out rather than vertical, lots of glitz and glamor, but with some unsafe areas as well. I think Stormreach might work for you, but it's certainly not a pretty place to be. Are you concerned about the actual appearance of the city? For what it's worth, you might be able to work with Sharn. It's well detailed, but it's vague enough that you can shuffle and skew things without players noticing. I assume what would be of more value to you is the politics and place names, so any city's appearance can be altered to suit your needs. |
| sally_jones03-19-08, 05:29 PM | an eberron city definitely. i have some npcs already made that i will insert into the city. ill prolly change most names and adjust the fluff as i see fit. |
| sally_jones03-21-08, 05:55 PM | sharn is out. i dont want to del with all the tiers of the city. is there a supplement that details calimport? |
