The plot arc will have the party trying to rescue fifty plus prisoners from the Lair of a vampire Rakshasa. Who specilizes in alchemy and magic diseases. And has been using the prisoners to experiment on. The Rakshasa lair is located near to Karsoluthiyl, a drow city in the underdark. The party will probably arrive via a portal near to the Rakshasa lair. The party will be around 12th level(3.5 ed) I'd like to make this section of the adventure as exicting and as climatic as i can. So any ideas , please post. |

Passages made of flesh are a great one to pull as the party approach the centre of the lair and a room with an animated maw for a door makes a great tension building entry to the final battle. As for what actually happens you've got one point that needs adressing. Is the Rakshasa going to live or die? If he will live then I would have this happen: When the PCs arrive they find everything strangely quiet and then go on to explore the lair of the Rakshasa. As they look around they encounter undead savants or whatever the guy is using to do his dirty work for him. They find the room the prisoners should be in empty and signs that they were only recently removed. They rush, hopefully, to confront the BBEG only to find that they are mobbed by the prisoners they were meant to be saving. It turns out the Rakshasa has administered some disease to instill rage in the poor inocents and left the party with a moral dilema on their hands whilst he makes good his escape. If the vampire is going to die then: PCs arrive, explore and encounter henchmen as before but when they reach the cells they find the prisoners (a portion thereof) locked up and going insane from fear and malnourishment. When the PCs inevitably confront the Rakshasa they find he has had the prisoners that weren't in the cells stitched into the form of a particularly large flesh golem that he sends forth whilst making his last stand and inevitably failing. Hope that gives you some food for thought :) |
