I'm designing a campaign for 3 players. One has been playing since 2nd Ed., but the others have never played an RPG before. So I'm trying to keep it simple.

Their known world will be small. A circular valley ringed by sharp young mountains and surrounded by concentric rolling hills. A big "splash" on the landscape.

Starting from 1st level, the characters will progress up to about 12th-13th level, as the BBEG is CR16.

The premise is that this world has two moons; a big shiny one and a small dark one. Every 7 years this "Hidden Moon" eclipses the sun, bringing strife and suffering. Furthermore, every 49 years (7^2) the eclipse spawns a time of even greater woes.

This progression continues, the terror escalating every 343 years (7^3), and so on. The next eclipse will be the worst, 823,543 years (7^7) since the event that created the "splash" valley.

Four Elemental Weirds each guard a protion of a 4-part prophecy which gives clues to defeating the BBEG, a Mooncalf advanced to CR 16 (Dragon #340, Ecology of the Mooncalf).

Based on this, I'm requesting any and all ideas to help flesh out my world, moon-related monsters and concepts especially.

So far, I'm using Gnolls as the sole monsterous humanoid race, and the only lycanthropes will be werewolves. Hag coveys and incoporeal undead will also be common.

Thanks in advance, everyone!
