I came into possession of a used 3rd party supplement for Rome and had an idea. An "alternate" Rome in which their conquests extend to other worlds via some magical artifact or such.
Has this already been done? It would not surprise me.
This will be my first campaign so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A short history of Onora:

Onora is the supreme power in the known planes. Her armies have marched on and conquered eight worlds and are involved in conflicts in three other worlds. Human hands now shape the destinies of tens of millions of beings across the planes. Once a minor tribe on her native world, the discovery of (insert artifact/ancient power source/blah blah blah) catapulted Onora into a position of dominance over all of her neighbors. Gates to other worlds allowed Onora access to exotic materials and other resources to fortify the Onoran war machine. Native races were quickly subjugated and pressed into service.
Strangely enough, Onoran rule has brought peace and order to many chaotic worlds and they have truly won the hearts and minds of many of her vassals. Onorans built roads and aqueducts and created a fair and effective code of law for each of the worlds they "shepherded" over.
While any human is automatically an Onoran citizen, the other races can become citizens, with all of the rights and privileges of human citizens, through military or public service. Not all natives pursue citizenship but many do and have assimilated into the Onoran way quite well.
Generally, Onoran-ruled worlds are led by a governer, usually a noble from one of Onora's oldest families or a retired general.

The Legions:

The Onoran Legions are the most powerful military ensemble ever conceived. Any race can be found here and are used to the best of their ability at every turn. Kobold tunnelers and Goblin demolition crews work in unison to bring down castle walls. Ogres and Trolls dominate the heavy infantry while Orc and Lizard Folk strike teams cleave through enemy lines with lightning speed. Massive Adamantine Golems lumber across battlefields while their artificer masters command from within.

I don't know if it has been done before, but i do think it is a good idea.

Sounds like an interesting environment, similiar to Union (a city in the epic level handbook), but Romanesque.

It leaves plenty of room for countless adventures and conflicts between planes, even at a low level (porbably not reccomended that a 1st level go to the plane of fire).

Continues posting and I'll try and see what I can do to help.:D

I think it is a pretty nifty idea.

Once a minor tribe on her native world, the discovery of (insert artifact/ancient power source/blah blah blah) catapulted Onora into a position of dominance over all of her neighbors. ..

Artifact: Ark of the Covenent in Solomon's Temple? Hey, maybe it really is Rome, they just changed their name or there is some translation issue. I am just thinkin' aloud. Think it might be kind of cool if the players played in this world to like level 15 or so, and they find some ancient cache of documents referring to Onora as 'Rome'.

Well if they're crossing into different worlds then there's no reason they shouldn't enter ours - did Onora inspire Rome or did Rome inspire Onora? Maybe some of the Onoran's appeared as gods on Earth, maybe some of Earths magical beings left earth for other worlds in the Onoran Emipre, leaving Earth barren of magic.
