| Arco Versipellis11-24-07, 11:56 PM | I've been working at my world for a while, and I tend to get bogged down. I've decided to go back and wrap up some loose ends to finish up my most advanced nation. I haven't gotten much feedback lately, so I've tried hard to conense and organize. Isla Mirage Many consider Isla Mirage an evil place of shadows. However, the people and cultures of the island are largely neutral in that respect, though they do tend towards chaos. It is one of the most magical locales in all of Alles. However, shadow magic is the prefered magic of the island. The island is ruled over by the most powerful magician in the land, an elf called the Shadow King. Its economy is based on the gem market, specifically diamonds and onyx, as well as pearls. Native Humanoids: Hadozee, Kenku, Wavecrest Gnomes Native Monstrous Humanoids: Dopplegangers, Zern (Locathah) Common Immigrants: Halfling, Half-Elf, Human, Kenku, Maenad; Shadowswyfts; Shadow Elves (templated standard elves) Important Sites: Black Diamond Bay: Bussling port city. This magocracy is the largest part of the island, and it is growing with incredible speed, largely due to magical and economical factors. The mysterious Shadow King is a well-connected individual, and he has been effective at recruiting talent to strength his community. The exports of the island are useful to magicians of all kinds throughout the world, and the port city is home to many other rare goods as well. [Important Guilds: Dim Whispers (Warlock/Mindbender), Duskdancers (Shadowdancer), Nightguard (Shadow Sun Ninja), Shadowcraft Tower (Illusionist/Master Specialist Illusionist; Shadowcaster)] Bleak Barrows: Ancient burial ground. The warriors who met their demise in the Gatekeeper Tournament were burided here, in barrows that date back to before the First Elven Empire. These powerful souls are not always willing to rest in peace. This place is a sanctuary for necromancers, who commonly visit the island. As such, a Crypt Keeper is sponsored by the Gatekeepers to keep watch over the activities. [Important Guilds: Bleak Barrows College (Dirge Singer), Onyx Academy (Dread Necromancer)] Eerie Hollows: Isolated logging village. A frontier village that has sprung up further inland. It is located in an area that has shown little magical activity, though it is still exposed to many of the dangers of the island. The miners are pushing expansion hard, but the sailors are not yet convinced. The colony may not survive unless someone takes direct action. Some of the guilds have taken interest, one even rellocating after losing a bitter guild war. [Important Guilds: Eerie Hollows College (Bard), Twilight Cabal (Sorcerer/Nightmare Spinner)] Planar Pools: Gateways to the multiverse. Located in the center of Isla Mirage, the planar pools are an incredile resource and liability. Many powerful individuals seek them out, but they must first appease the Gatekeepers to access these portals. The Shadow King has no direct control over the planar pools nor with the Gatekeepers, but the current ruling faction, the Walkers of the Multiverse, count him as a powerfully ally. [Important Guilds: Gatekeepers] Wavecrest Cove: Peaceful gnome settlement. The gnomes dwell here in dome-shaped homes, resembling pearls half-buried in the sand. They live off the land and the sea, with pearl diving being thei favorite past time. Gnomes have no natural skill with this activity, so it takes a great deal of practice for them to develope this abilty. The gnomes may be small and peaceful, but they have defended their coastal home from locathahs on several occasions by falling back into the nearby jungles. [Important Guilds: Pearltenders Circle (Wavekeper)] I have some concern about the ecology of the island. I have a tropicl rain forest on another island, so I want them to be different. I was thinking about a forest (dopplegangers) and bog (zern (MMIV). I pictured the island to be about the size of Ireland. The Eerie Hollow College and the Oynx Academy could use prestige classes to be tied to. Other than that, I can't think of any holes that I know are there. I'll put up some religion notes next. |
