| thunderjp07-03-07, 04:04 PM | I am working on an alternate system to allow characters to easily identify magical items. This is what I have so far: Identifying Items Spellcraft Check Cannot Take 20, Rolled by the DM. 1 try per level. DC to Identify items: 25 plus 1 for each 2000 gold piece in value Identify Spell = Full Identification of item +2 Synergy Bonuses Notes: 5 points in Appraise 5 points in Use Magic Device 5 points in Craft Item type only Item Creation feat Item type only 5 points in Decipher Script Scrolls only +1 Bonus for each level in the following classes: Agent Retriever Alchemist Savant Potions only Artificer Bard Battlesmith Weapons and Armor Only Cannith Wand Adept Wands only Guild Wizard of Waterdeep Master Alchemist Potions only Red Wizard Any suggestions? Anybody have their own system you'd like to share? |

So if a longsword +2 can only be made by a 6th level caster, then the DC is 26 (not sure if that's exactly accurate on the caster level for +2 but you get the idea.) |

The 100gp per item always seemed rather draconian to me. If there's any quirks, hidden aspects, or curses to the item, I may allow a spellcraft check to determine them while identifying. |
